Training Programme on Energy Audit for Buildings 1. OBJECTIVES This training programme will teach how to conduct an energy audit in buildings. It is designed to impart the key skills and knowledge required for carrying out energy audit in buildings and recommend energy efficiency and energy conservation measures, supported by financial analysis to help in decision- making. At the end of the programme, the participants are expected to be able to: Apply standard methodologies for measuring energy in buildings Understand the various levels of an energy audit process and the aims and deliverables of each level Calculate the energy flow in a project building and identify measures for improving energy performance Analyse the proposed measures in terms of its technical, management and financial aspects. Develop the skills to create an energy audit report and present the recommendations effectively 2. DURATION The duration of the programme is thirty (30) hours, conducted once a week on Saturdays (6 hours) for a period of 5 weeks. 3. CURRICULUM The programme will consist of the following topics: Topic No Programme Outline 1 Introduction to energy management principles, energy auditing process, impact of building envelope on energy performance 2 Building energy systems, Air-conditioning and ventilation and associated controls, Lighting fixtures and associated controls 3 Analysis tools for energy auditing, Financial analysis of measures, Energy audit report writing, Level 1: Walk-through energy audit. 4 Level 2: Detailed energy analysis, Level 3: Advanced energy auditing for capital intensive measures: energy modelling and simulations 5 Survey of building premises, Analysis of survey results and making recommendations. 4. VENUE & FACILITIES The training programme will be held at the Prof. Sir E. Lim Fat Engineering Tower of the University of Mauritius. 5. TRAINING METHODOLOGY The programme will be conducted in the form of classroom lectures (theory), presentations, case studies at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Mauritius. 6. CERTIFICATE Participants who have successfully completed the programme will be awarded a certificate of completion issued by the University of Mauritius. 7. WHO SHOULD ATTEND This short course is designed for those working in the building sector such Architects, Engineers, Supervisors, Facility Managers, Maintenance officers, Technicians, and Contractors. Number of seats available for this programme: 20 8. REGISTRATION FEES Rs. 13, 000 per participant including lunch, refreshments and training pack. 9. TRAINERS Mr Abdel Khoodaruth, Lecturer at the Mechanical & Production Engineering Department (University of Mauritius), Dr Gooroochurn, LEED, Lecturer at the Mechanical & Production Engineering Department (University of Mauritius), Mr Madoo Desha, Consultant in Energy Management will be the resource persons for this course. 10.
