CONTENTS: 6 Math Mats, pair of dice, 12 each of the following manipulatives: pennies, red poms, candles, pasta shells and bug erasers.

INSTRUCTIONS

SET UP: Choose 1 math mat and it’s corresponding manipulatives. Lay the mat and manipulatives on the table. Decide which of the 3 ways of play (see below) you will be playing. Use 1 dice for counting and 2 dice for addition and subtraction.

COUNTING Begin with 1 dice. Roll and place that many manipulatives on the math mat. To make the counting more challenging, use both dice.

ADDITIONUse 2 dice. Roll. Add the number of each dice together. Put that many manipulatives on the math mat. Tip: When playing, encourage your child to make a math sentence (ex: 3+5=8) on a piece of paper.

SUBTRACTIONUse 2 dice. Roll. Subtract the largest number from the smallest. Put that many manipulatives on the math mat. Tip: When playing, encourage your child to make a math sentence (ex: 8-5=3) on a piece of paper.

1) Please collect: -a pair of dice -12 pennies -12 pieces of shell pasta (dry) -12 candles -12 red pom pon balls -12 bug erasers or plastic bugs (cut out paper bugs could be used as well) 2) Print off Counting Mats- use instruction sheet below on how to play the game. Use the… Shell Pasta with the Sun & Sand Counting Mat (as shells at the beach). Red Pom Pon balls with the Apple Count & Tasty treat mats as apples in the tree and cherries on top of the ice cream. Pennies with the Penny Pig Counting Mat (as pennies in a piggy bank). Candles with the Make a Wish Counting Mat (as candles on a cake). Bugs with the Going Buggy Counting Mat (as bugs caught in a jar).
