introductionThis first edition of Counties At-a-Glance ranks Nebraska counties in a variety of metrics – from economics to education to taxes. It is a statistical snapshot of Nebraska, designed to give policymakers and the public a glimpse of the challenges and opportunities facing the state.

The tables, graphs, and maps in this report use the most current data available for all 93 counties. Often, per capita or percentage figures

are used to account for population differences between counties. Counties are always ranked from highest to lowest value, without regard to subject matter, so a higher ranking is not always preferable to a lower ranking. Counties may occasionally appear to have the same values, but different rankings. This is because values are displayed only to one or two decimal places. Thus, two counties may appear to be tied, when in reality, their actual values differ slightly.

Every ranking also includes a choropleth map, and a bar graph comparing the highest and lowest ranked counties. Source information is located at the bottom of each page, including a link to the raw data. Text in each header includes supplemental information about the subject, including definitions, additional rankings, and more detailed data. Unless otherwise noted, rates are determined using the population of adults 18 years of age and older.
