Christmas gift vouchers available New test changes March 09 FORGET the January detox – the buzzword for party girls this Christmas is ‘pretox’, a short, sharp diet and workout plan that not only gets you in tip-top condition ready for the party season, but also helps see you through the excesses of the Christmas season. Here are five easy steps to ‘pretox’ your way through the season of goodwill: STEP 1 – Keep up your fluids: Remember to drink at least 1.5 litres of water every day. Keeping up your fluids flushes out toxins quickly, ensuring your body is in top working order, helping to prevent spots, dry skin and wrinkles. Better still, kick start every day with a glass of hot water and lemon to stimu- late your digestion and liver function. At your Christmas party try to drink water as well as alcohol to reduce the next day’s hangover. STEP 2 – You are what you eat: Try to stick to organic, seasonal, unprocessed, fresh foods. Ditch the white bread, sugar-laden cereals and bis- cuits and load up on fresh fruit and vegetables, fish and wholegrains. When it comes to Christmas canapés, don’t reach for that deep-fried camembert bite – choose vegetables and dips, fresh fish and shellfish and white meat treats. For the morning after, resist that tempting bacon sandwich and opt for high- fibre cereals or bars, fresh fruit smoothies and then, if you’re still hungry, tuck into a banana for a slow-release sugar top-up. STEP 3 - Cleansing inside and out: If you really want to get serious about cleansing your sys- tem and achieving that all- important flat tummy for your little black dress, it's time to look to your bowels and try colonic irrigation. MANY householders are planning to turn their backs on extravagant Christmas decorations to light up their homes this year. According to research from Yorkshire Bank, just 23 per cent of Brits plan to illuminate their neigh- bourhood by decorating outside their homes with glowing Santas, snowmen, Rudolphs and reindeer in the run-up to Christmas. The bank’s quarterly Homebuyers Report also revealed that 19 per cent of people who have decorated their homes in previous years are not planning on doing so this festive season. Yorkshire Bank’s Head of retail, Gary Lumby, said: “Whether you love them or loathe them everyone seems to have an opinion about outdoor Christmas lights. While some people see them as being wasteful and tacky, others enjoy the Christmas spirit and cheer they bring to a community. “Whatever decorations you opt for, it’s still possible to have fun this festive season whilst sticking to a budget.” Less light this Christmas as belts are tightened Pretox: The discerning party girl’s guide to staying on top form. (S) It’s great for relieving bloating and constipation, and will leave you feeling less sluggish, tired and worn out. STEP 4 – Get moving: If you really want to see results, get moving. Start by walking: get off the bus or train a stop early and walk the rest of the way to work, or use your lunch hour to take a walk round the area. At the party, get dancing. It’s a brilliant way to work the alcohol through your body – but remember to rehydrate with water after- wards. However bad you feel the morning after, go outside, breathe in deeply and fill your lungs with fresh cool air. It is an energy burst for the soul and makes you feel a million times better. STEP 5 – Indulge in some important ‘me time’: On the day of your social event, relax. Allow yourself plenty of time to get ready for your night out and indulge in lovely pampering products. Keep moisturising and refreshing your skin at every opportunity. For more seasonal diet and fitness tips, visit lead- ing UK women’s website www.iVillage.co.uk. SHOPPERS need to act fastif they want to get theirhands on the season’s wish-list toys this Christmas.

The Toy Retailers’Association (TRA) haswarned that popular pur-chases, including FurReal-Biscuit, a life-like goldenretriever puppy, and theKidizoom digital camera, are running out in storesacross the country.

The association, whichrepresents 60 per cent of UKtoy retailers, says thatdespite low consumer confi-dence and a slow start toChristmas trading, its mem-bers are experiencing theusual rush on the most pop-ular toys – and it is now toolate for retailers to increasetheir orders for more stockin time for Christmas.

Chairman Gary Grantsaid: “Every year we see themost popular toys run outas Christmas approaches.

“This year, although par-ents may be spending less,we are finding they stillwant to get that wish-listitem for their children.

“As a result, our most pop-ular lines are selling as fast

The old ones are the best: Before Teletubbies, Fimbles andTweenies, there was Morph! The loveable plasticine character hasjust turned 30 and he’s back in vogue. The Make Your Own MorphSet is number one on the list of bestsellers from Hawkin’s Bazaar.

Play pop: The X Factor board game takes players through thejourney of an X Factor contestant, passing through auditions, boot camp and all the way to the final. A firm favourite for girls, according to the What’s Hot lists from Littlewoods Direct.

FurReal-Biscuit: Stocks are running low as buyers snap up thecuddly, interactive pup-in-a-box.

as in previous years.“Parents who are hold-

ing out for the pre-Christmas sales are run-ning the risk of missing outon the must-have items.

“We know from previousyears that many parentswho leave their shoppinglate end up paying higherprices for wish-list toys onauction websites, so whenbuying toys, patience does-n’t always pay off.

“Many bargains arealready in store with retail-ers offering discounts eventhough the window maynot say ‘Sale’.”

However, there is hopefor parents wanting toavoid a frantic last-minutesearch for their child’smost wanted Christmaspresent. The TRA advisesshoppers to talk to retailersif a toy isn’t on the shelf.

“While it is too late toorder more stock in, insome cases deliveries are

pending,” said Mr Grant. While the TRA advocates

shopping around for must-have toys, Mr Grant warnsagainst relying on onlineretailers. “If a toy isn’tavailable online, there isnobody to ask for adviceon an alternative.

“Toy retailers know bet-ter than most what chil-dren will enjoy – parentswho are struggling to gethold of that must-haveitem should use retailers’expertise to find an alter-native that will bring justas much fun and joy onChristmas Day.”

The TRA’s annual ‘dreamtoys’ list, the only officialprediction of Christmasbestsellers, reveals a trendtowards music, film andtelevision-inspired toys toindulge fame fantasiesfrom the next generationof pop stars and screenheroes.

Plenty of old favourites

also make a comeback thisyear, reflecting thenation’s love for nostalgiccharacters and brands.
