Forestry and Heavy Equipment Simulators - Eight mobile simulator units will help offer innovative training opportunities to future workers in the forestry and heavy equipment operation sectors. The simulators replicate the interiors of nine different pieces of forestry and heavy equipment machinery – including a grader, dozer, feller-buncher, heel-boom log loader, excavator, wheel loader, articulated rock truck and dangle-head forestry processor.
VIU has secured funds through our Aboriginal Service Plan to take the mobile units out into communities. Over the next 10 months, VIU will deliver the 4-week HEO Foundation program and simulator training to cohorts within the following First Nations communities: Snuneymuxw, Nanoose (Nanaimo), and Cowichan Tribes & Stz’uminus (Cowichan). The program will lead to an Industry Training Authority Certificate of Completion.
Hairdressing Program - changing to Hairstylist Foundation. The ITA is currently updating the Hairstylist Foundation Program to better align with industry demands. These changes will be in effect for the September 2016 intake. This is a 10 month, 1500 hour program.
