Five steps of stress policy1. Identify the hazards: the stressor areas should be assessed

and data be collected from many sources includingperformance appraisal, productivity data, sickness/absence

data and turnover data2. Decide who might be harmed and how: stress may affect

individuals differently, and it is important to find out whatindividuals/groups are vulnerable to stress and how they areaffected

3. Evaluate the risk and decide if enough is being done: assessment of what action is already taken and what further action is needed. Communicate results and provide feed backto the staff.

4. Record the significant findings of the assessment anddevelop an action plan: a record should be kept of thesignificant findings of the assessment of which groups havebeen identified as being particularly at risk.

5. Review the assessment at appropriate intervals, evaluateeffectiveness and revise where necessary

6. Implement stress management programmes

is one of several characteristics shared by happy people.Think StraightCognitive distortion can cause people under undue stress todiscount positive events, seeing only the negative. They alsomight lose their long-term perspective, focusing exclusively on

the immediate fires they're called upon to douse, or perceiveeven minor events as major catastrophes.

Networking- maintain a network of people to talk to. Friends andfamily can remind you that you're more than your work.

Keeping a journal : Writing slows your thoughts enough to clarify

those that aren't serving you while a plan gives youperspective.
