    Counseling in HR

    Counseling involves the formal communication (verbal orwritten) with an employee regarding his/her work behavior orperformance, particularly with regard to behavior or

    performance issues that the employee should attempt toimprove. Discussion of a problem with an employee, to help the

    employee cope with it.

    Introduction of ideas into the life of an employee, ideas beingeither totally new or slight variation of old, to help the

    employee who is otherwise lacking in smoothness of conductdue to some emotional or physical irritants.

    Types of counseling

    Advisory counselingThe client already know his

    problem and its cause, and would like the counselor

    to advise him for a right choice from various options

    and delete the cause of problem. Corrective counselingclient is aware of his

    uneasiness in handling certain issue but is looking for

    an answer why he fells uneasy, so counselor not only

    have to advise him but first he has to also analyze the

    irritant. For this the counselor have to search for

    every intrinsic details of experiences that influenced

    his client.

    What constitute counseling?

    1.CommunicationThe counselor essentiallycommunicate with the counselee.it involvesreceiving message(listening) givingmessage(responding) and giving feedback.

    2.Influencingcounseling involvesinfluencing the counselee in many ways.enabling the other person to exercise moreautonomy, providing positive reinforcement sothat desirable behavior is further strengthened,and creating conditions in which the person learnfrom the behavior of the counselor through theprocess of identification.

    3.Helping

    Helping behavior is based onconcerned empathy the counselor have for his

    counseling.it is based on mutuality of

    relationship. Counselee responds as much to the

    counselors need as much the former does to

    the latter's. Helping primarily involves

    identification of development needs of the

    counselee so that he may be able to developand increase his effectiveness.

    Employers have many options at their disposalwhen it comes to monitoring their employees,

    technique varies depending on the situation.

    E-mail Scanning - E-mail scanning is aprocess in which incoming and outgoing mailpasses through E-Mail Filtering software tosearch for content which may violate thepolicies of the employers.

    Video Surveillance - Video feeds ofemployee activities are fed back to a central

    location where they are either recorded ormonitored live by another person.

    Employee monitoring software - Ifemployees use company computers for their

    work, companies often utilize Employee

    monitoring softwarethat allow them to track

    everything employees do on their computers.

    For example what emails were received, what

    Location Monitoring - For employees that do

    not work in a static location, supervisors may

    choose to track their location. Common

    examples of this are delivery and

    transportation industries. In some of thesecases the employee monitoring is incidental as

    the location is tracked for other purposes, such

    as determining the amount of time before aparcel will be delivered.
