Celebrating National Volunteer Week, communities are being asked to recognise the women volunteers living and working in rural, regional and remote NSW, to be honoured on the NSW Hidden Treasures Honour Roll. Minister for Primary Industries, Niall Blair, said country NSW was filled with so many wonderful people, volunteering their time for worthy causes. “The NSW Government is calling for rural communities to nominate women to be included on the 2015 Hidden Treasures Honour Roll,” Mr Blair said. “Rural women play an important role in ensuring the survival of many of their communities - without their drive, hard work and
enthusiasm, many of these would simply not be the thriving communities they are today.” The Hidden Treasures Honour Roll creates a lasting archive to recognise women volunteers, who do not seek the limelight and go about their work quietly and diligently. Every year the NSW Government is overwhelmed by the scope of these women's stories - Hidden Treasures is our opportunity to say thank you to some outstanding women. The NSW Government is honoured to recognise these special women through this important initiative, during National Volunteer Week. Nominating a rural woman for the Honour Roll is easy to do – simply complete your nomination online or download
a nomination form and share a few paragraphs about why your nominee is worthy. All women nominated will be included in the 2015 Roll which will be launched at the annual NSW Rural Women’s Gathering in Glen Innes on 9 - 11 October 2015. To view the roll, visit www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/rwn/activities/hidden-treasures For more information, contact the Rural Women’s Network on 02 6391 3433 or email [email protected]
Nominations close Friday 31 July 2015.

On 22 April Cr. Jolliffe, Councils Director Corporate & Community Development, Elizabeth White, staff members Carol Holmes and Nikkita Rayner, and I attended emergency management training in Euston. The two day training involved providing people with skills, insights and tools to be able to confidently manage disasters/emergencies and the successful running of an emergency management centre. It was very pleasing to see large attendances at all Anzac Day Services held in the Balranald Shire on such a significant anniversary. Council have been busy preparing the 2015/16 budget. This will be a challenge with reduced grants from both State and Federal Governments. Council looks forward to producing a positive budget for our Shire. The Balranald Interagency Group held a Services Expo on 27 May. Balranald is lucky to have so many service providers and agencies visiting, and the Expo is a great way to showcase these services and how they assist our community.
Update - Euston Intersection Upgrade The first stage of the intersection upgrade, which included the reconstruction and sealing of the new bridge approaches, has been completed. Currently earthworks are underway for the widening of the slip lanes at the main intersection of Bridge Road. Please drive with caution when entering roadwork areas.
