2 CITY OF RYDE PROCUREMENT

The ATTACHED report on formal procurement at the City of Ryde provides information as to Requests for Tender or Requests for Quotation that are currently in the market. The report also outlines those items of procurement (if any) that are to be reported to the next meeting of Council in accordance with the requirements of the Local Government Act and Regulations. This includes all procurement in the bracket of $50k - $150k in value (Request for Quotation) or exceeding $150k inc GST (Request for Tenders).

Some of these processes may be marked as being limited to selective respondents. Where this is the case, there has been a publicly advertised Expression of Interest process to establish select respondents or a panel of select respondents that are prequalified to undertake the required works.

5 COMMUNITY INFORMATION EXPO 2017

The Community Information Expo was held on Thursday, 23 March 2017, from 9:30 am to 12.30 pm at Eastwood Plaza. The Expo was attended by over 450 community members. The Expo was part of the Harmony Day celebrations and provided an opportunity for 59 local service providers from both the government and non-government sector to promote their services to families from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds living in the City of Ryde. The attendees received information on a range of services that included, legal, health, employment, education/training, volunteering, aged and disability, family and settlement services. The event was officially opened by Clr Roy Maggio on behalf of the Mayor and was followed by a number of cultural performances that were introduced by Korean and Chinese interpreters. The Expo included a kids’ corner that offered a range of family friendly activities in a fun and safe environment, as well as stalls that offered free chai, origami workshops and henna tattoos. This year’s successful Expo was presented by the City of Ryde in collaboration with the Community Migrant Resource Centre, and a number of service providers that support residents from CALD communities residing within the Council and surrounding areas. This collaborative group comprised of the Benevolent Society, Ability Links, United Way, Northern Centre and the NSW Police and was supported by 18 bilingual volunteers who spoke Chinese, Korean, Arabic and Farsi. The festive atmosphere encouraged community participation, cohesion and inclusion through the celebration of all cultures. The participant and service provider evaluations of the event have been overwhelmingly positive.

7 RYDE BOWLING CLUB - SECURING FACILITY

The Ryde Bowling Club has remained vacant since 2014 awaiting the resolution of the Aboriginal Land Claim. The timeframe for this resolution is still unknown. Due to this, the Ryde Bowling Club has attracted ongoing vandalism requiring Council to attend the site numerous times to clean up broken glass, remove graffiti, board up damaged windows and disperse vagrants and school children. It is anticipated that these issues will continue while there is unobstructed access to the building for the public and it is no longer feasible to continue cleaning and repairing the building on an ongoing basis. In the interest of public safety and containing costs to Council, a chain wire fence will be erected around the entire building with suitably locked gates for Council access until the future of the site is determined. The fencing will have signage attached stating that it is being installed to minimise vandalism and maintain public safety. All properties in the vicinity of the Bowling Club, along Blaxland Road and the Chamber of Commerce will also be notified of these security measures.

If any further information is required, please do not hesitate in contacting me.

8 COMMUNITY RECYCLING CENTRE - ARTARMON

The Community Recycling Centre in Artarmon (CRC) is now open and will be officially launched by The Honourable Anthony Roberts MP, Minister for Planning and Housing at 9.00am on Wednesday, 12 April 2017. All Councillors are invited to attend and should have received an official invitation. The CRC located at 8 Waltham Street, Artarmon is operated as a joint partnership between the City of Ryde, Hunters Hill, Lane Cove, North Sydney and Willoughby Councils. It allows residents to take household quantities of problem waste to the centre to be recycled or disposed of in an environmentally safe manner. The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) have funded the setup and the disposal of the items, while the five partnering Council will fund the daily operations and collection. Items which are accepted include paints, gas bottles, oil, batteries, fluorescent tubes, globes, e-waste, fire extinguishers and smoke detectors. A large media campaign will also be launched to promote the centre, through bus-backs, railway station billboards, advertising in newspapers, postcards and Council web pages.
