Council Work Session Minutes

August 3, 2021

The Borough of Ben Avon Council met in a regular voting session on Tuesday, August 3, 2021, virtually for the purpose of transacting General Business. President Jennifer Bett presided and opened the meeting at 7:10 PM with the Pledge of Allegiance. ROLL CALL Those Present: Jennifer Bett, Henry Casale, Kara Roggenkamp Those Absent: Megan Dolan, Ken Opipery, David Stoeckle, Richard Wagner Others Present: Jaclyn Karolski, Terrie Patsch, Fox Chapel Councilwoman Mandy Steele PUBLIC PARTICIPATION – there was no public participation TOPICS FOR DISCUSSION Coal Tar Usage Mandy Steele, Fox Chapel Ms. Steele addressed council and shared information on Coal Tar usage. She is requesting Council consider banning the substance in the Borough via Ordinance. See Attachment A Climate Action Plan Mrs. Roggenkamp shared a slide presentation on the proposed Climate Action Plan for the Borough. She explained how the Climate Action Plan helps us understand the sources of greenhouse gas emissions in our community and develop strategies to minimize our carbon footprint, improve our community’s resilience and preserve our quality of life. See Attachment B Ordinance Recommendations for Joint Planning Commission Mrs. Bett stated that a good starting point for recommended ordinances for review would be the Shadetree Ordinance and any that refer to solar panels and wind turbines as they would be directly related to the proposed Climate Action Plan.
