CEO’s Update

Bright early mornings bring hope…

However will it ever warm up! What

a freezing weekend it was—great for

football, but we all froze at the Codi

Rest bay opening… I’m praying for us

all that October brings some sun and

warmth!

I had the pleasure of attending the

Codjatotine Rest Bay Opening

yesterday. It is a fantastic

community project that highlights

our local history and demonstrated

the great community spirit that

Wandering demonstrates so often.

The Codji Committee that have

undertaken the work , have done a

great job and I would like to take this

opportunity on

behalf of Council to

congratulate all

involved on such a

fantastic outcome.

The Caravan Park is

finally completed. It

was a bit of a long

project and had a

few challenges

along the way, but I am proud to say

that the completed building is a

wonderful improvement to the

amenity of the Caravan Park and

increases the level of service we can

offer by catering to disabled clients

and users of the Park. We will be

hosting a formal opening on the 2

November at 6pm—so please pop

down and take and look.

Rod Evenis is back from leave, wow

that three months flew by. We would

like to thank Brad for his great work

covering for Rod and Welcome Rod

and his Bride Rhema back from leave

and to Wandering. I am sure that

you will all help make Rhema

welcome in Wandering and we look

forward to catching up

at community events

and opportunities.

The Council team

headed to York on the

19 September for a

spot of Strategic Planning with

Caroline Robertson from the

Wheatbelt Business Network. The

Councillors commenced the strategic

thinking process and engaged in

some planning exercises that will

help give the management team an

understanding on the Councillors

view of the future of Wandering and

the Shire. The Shire is required by

the Department of Local Government

to update its Community Strategic

Plan, Long term Financial Plan,

Corporate Plan, Asset Management

Plan and Workforce Management

been completed and whilst we did go over budget by approximately $6,000.00 the work has been

completed to a high standard and the life of the asset has been improved by up to 15 years.

The project was predominately funded by the Country Local Government Fund and the Wheatbelt

Development Commission Aged Friendly Communities Grants. The Shire contributed funding towards

the over run and upgraded the structural integrity of the building by contributing approximately

$12,000.00 overall.

Council had received quotes to replace the building or upgrade it as carried out that ranged from

$350,000 to $100,000.00. With the final cost coming in at approximately $115,000.00 including in kind

funding.

Key features of the upgrade include: improvements to structural integrity, new expanded and improved

septic system, expansion of the building to include disabled toilet and laundry, expansion of services

offered with increased toilets and showers, upgrade of all toilet and shower areas, installation of a dump

point, installation of a footpath connecting Campers Kitchen to ablutions, sensor lighting and upgraded

Shire working with residents to improve Community

Safety over the coming Fire Season.

The Wandering Shire Bush Fire Brigades and the Shire Ranger are working together to ensure where possible that residents and land owners have undertaken their legal responsibilities in regards to fire mitigation with the fire season fast approaching. Our Ranger Matt has been out about and inspected most properties to ensure that fire

breaks have been undertaken as per the Fire Notice sent out to all residents in July of this year.

If your breaks have not been undertaken or your property is considered to be at risk you will receive a pre season reminder to undertake action in order to prevent a fire infringement. Letters will be sent from Monday 3 October onwards. Please note the Shire hopes not to send out any infringements this year and is providing the pre season reminder as a opportunity for residents/ landowners to take action prior to the October 31 inspections that will be

undertaken by Fire Captains and the Ranger.

Remember that firebreaks not only help reduce the spread of fire in many instances, they are also a primary ac-cess tool, enabling access to at risk assets or valuable water sources—we all need to work together to ensure

community safety we are therefore urging you all to play your part in protecting yourselves and others .

1 October is the start of the restricted burning period. Permits are required for all fires. Please contact your local Bush Fire Control Officer for a permit or contact the Shire for more information. Please note that all of our Bush Fire Control Officers are volunteers and may not be available immediately, plan ahead and leave a message they

will get back to you as soon as they can.

For more information regarding Bush Fire dates please contact the Shire for a Bush Fire Notice, access the Shires Website www.wandering.wa.gov.au or call the Harvest Ban line on 9884 1042.
