Conveniently located between the Shire of Denmark Administration Office and the Denmark Country Club on South Coast Highway, the car park was specially constructed to make car pooling easier for Denmark residents. Meet at the car park and enjoy the drive in to Albany together. Sharing the weekday travel can save around $100 per week on fuel and vehicle maintenance costs for a medium vehicle, and not to mention provides a chance for a good chin-wag! Can’t find someone to car pool with? Register for free at www.shareyourride.net/ carpool/Australia. Responsible Cafes Responsible Cafes is a free nationwide program run by the award winning not-for- profit group Responsible Runners. It equips cafes with a model for incentivising reuse by encouraging cafes to offer a discount to customers with a reusable takeaway cup. Over 1 billion disposable takeaway cups are used every year in Australia and the great majority end up in landfill. Be a conscious consumer and support Denmark’s Responsible Cafes: Pawprint Chocolate, Bibbulmun Cafe, Denmark Bakery and Luscious Organic. If you own or run a cafe or coffee van and would like to become a Responsible Cafe, contact the Shire’s Sustainability Services on (08) 9848 0313. The Shire of Denmark has brought the Responsible Cafes program to Denmark as part of Plastic Free July initiatives. Soft Plastic Recycling The Shire of Denmark now offers receptacles for soft plastic recycling at the Shire’s Administration Office and Recreation Centre. The recycling program, which is run by REDcycle, collects soft plastics like plastic bags, biscuit packets, rice bags and frozen vegetable bags. Australians throw away about 7,150 of these types of plastic bags a minute (Source: Clean Up Australia). These soft plastics are currently unable to be collected in kerb-side recycling offered by most Shires and would otherwise end up in landfill. The soft plastics are collected by the Shire and sent to REDcycle where they are processed and made into useful products like outdoor furniture and bollards. This program is part of the Shire’s Plastic Free July initiatives. COUNCIL RESOLUTIONS July 2016 The following is a summary of the intent of some of Council’s decisions from the July meetings.
