Special seals are available upon request for higheroperating temperatures.

Can be run in an open or closed position. Spline end can be run in an up or down position.

O p e r a t i n g N o t e sHigher jarring forces are generated when there is considerablymore weight above the stuck point than below. The Cougar DJ-4is engineered to handle the extreme loads encountered whenrunning lower in the string. In fact, we recommend that the DJ-4be run as low as possible in the drill string.

The DJ-4 is designed to be run in the closed or open positionwhen drilling. To avoid potential excessive wear, do not run thejar at the neutral point.

To ensure effective jarring or bumping, keep at least 10,000 lbs(4,500 daN) of collars or heavy-weight drill pipe above the jarwhen operating in the open position.

Meticulous servicing ofHydraulic Valves ensuresthe peak performance ofour jars.

S a f e t yThe Cougar DJ-6 safety latch system eliminates unintentionalfiring of the jar while tripping. By running the DJ-6 in thelatched position, the inner mandrel and outer housing are lockedtogether, which reduces seal and tool wear.

S t r e n g t hThe DJ-6 is constructed of heat-treated, vacuum degassed,high-purity steel. We use only the highest-grade steel, andevery bar is tested by independent metallurgical laboratoriesto verify its quality. As a result, the DJ-6 has the inherenttensile and torsional strength to handle the longest andtoughest drilling programs.

F e a t u r e s Tool lengths of 16 to 31 feet. Large I.D. to accept survey tools and high pump volumes. Insensitive to right or left-hand torque. Standard operating temperatures up to 2250F (930C.) Special

seals are available upon request for higher temperatures. Spline end can be run in an up or down position. Can be run in tension, compression, or at the neutral point

within the safety latch setting. Setting of the mechanical latch for down jarring can be

altered to suit individual customer requirements.

The Cougar ST-5 Shock Tool is designed for a wide range ofdrilling conditions. Deep, hot and deviated wells call all bedrilled efficiently from spud to T.D.

    With the ST-5, you will:

Increase bit life. Increase penetration rate, by ensuring optimum bit weight

and RPM. Minimize hole deviation by dampening transient loads and

controlling net forces at the bit. Lengthen the life of drill string components by reducing

cyclic loading. Lower rig floor maintenance costs by reducing vibration at

    the surface.

S T - 5 S h o c k T o o l P l a c e m e n tFor optimal tool performance, the Cougar ST-5 Shock Toolshould be placed immediately above the bit to minimize theamount of unsprung mass below the tool. Improper locationin the bottom hole assembly can cause severe damage to theshock tool.

The Cougar ST-5 Shock is best located in a position where it isexposed to a minimum of side loading or bending stress. Theshock tool should have the equivalent amount of stabilizationon either end, if it is stabilized at the lower connection, thereshould be stabilization within 30 feet of the upper connection.

    O p e r a t i n g f e a t u r e s Bi-directional spring action allows the Cougar ST-5 to

compress or extend to compensate for any combination of bitweight or pressure drop across the bit.

The advanced engineering of the Cougar steel springs providesexcellent vibration dampening.

Pressure-balanced seal system keeps the tool from closingunder hydrostatic pressure.

Innovative internal design increases rotating life. Standard operating temperatures up to 225F (93C.)

Special seals are available for operating temperatures up to450F (232C.)

The hydrostatically balanced ST-5 has a special floating pistonto prevent closing under deep drilling conditions.

Bellville disc springs provide a linear spring rate high loadcapacity, and low hystereisis.

The ST-5 body connection are kept to a minimum to reducepotential failures.

    S t r e n g t hThe ST-5 is constructed of heat-treated, vacuum degassed,high-purity steel.
