COUER D’ALENE TAPHOUSE – UNCHAINED Located near the Centennial Trail, Coeur d’Alene Taphouse – Unchained features a cycling-themed interior design including antique bicycles, local cycling jerseys, cycling memorabilia and a cycling-friendly menu. The location is ideal for area cyclists to stop in for refreshments or a food break. There is plenty of bike rack space and sidewalk seating for the summer, so people can keep an eye on their bikes. The idea behind the named Unchained is a simple one says Manager Bre Brunton, “Anyone that’s had the chain come off during a ride or cycling competition can relate to it.” When the chain comes off, it’s time to have fun. BREWS & EATS Rotating daily, the 24 microbrews and ciders on tap are the centerpiece of the Taphouse. There’s also a “Margarita Bike” that’s hooked to a blender so guests can climb on and pedal to mix their own drinks. The motto is: you pedal, you drink. It’s that simple. The menu features appetizers like Kickstand French Fries or House Made Handle Bars (pretzels), soups, salads, and entrées such as the Priest River Elk Burger or Hiawatha Trail Pizza. THE STORY BEHIND THE BIKE Bicycles came to Coeur d’Alene with the military at Fort Sherman, and in 1904, local innovator John “Jack” Finney pedaled to victory in the Northwest cycling championships. That legacy lives on in the bike paths and cycling culture of Coeur d’Alene.
