SallyAnne loves to paint recycled wine bottles, mason jars and jugs, but she especially loves unique shapes. When she has finished her artwork, the items resemble pottery because of the unique paint texture style she gives to the bases of the bottles before she sculpts and paints the details. SallyAnne also hand paints and personalizes glass ornaments. Her top sellers are snowmen and hearts with roses, which can be personalized. She also paints on wood plaques, adding sayings and flowers. What’s more, SallyAnne accomplished her dream of becoming an author last year. Her first published book is called, “Still Dragging Your Stuff Around?” which is a Christian inspirational book of her life experiences in which she encourages others to release anger, pain and frustration they may be holding onto. “Nosey Rosie,” her second book was released in May 2014 and is a children’s book featuring her four dogs as the characters in the book. SallyAnne welcomes you to visit her website: www.sallyannetrissel.tateauthor.com She retired from the Stark County Board of DD in 2006 to devote her time to her artwork. he Linn Pottery Studio and Gallery calls home a hundred plus year old warehouse located in the northern end of the Historical District of downtown

Wheeling, WV. The Master Potter, Paul Latos, can be found much of the time in his studio on the second floor with the sounds of jazz playing in the background, creating functional utilitarian stoneware, elegant one of a kind pieces made from porcelain, and specialty works of low fired earthenware. His line of pottery has been been exhibited and sold in numerous galleries across the united States including the Renwick Gallery in Washington, DC and The Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, WV. His exquisite line of pottery has also been sought after by collectors not only in the united States, but also in Japan, China, Korea, Canada and Ireland. He has received numerous awards including The Best of West Virginia Award from Governor Gaston Caperton and Top Producer Awards from the Tamarack Foundation, Beckley, West Virginia. Born and raised in the northern panhandle of West Virginia, Paul attended Brooke High School in Wellsburg. It was there that he was first introduced to a craft that would lead him to lifelong career as a potter. upon graduation, Paul furthered his interest in the field

The Children’s Order - 2014

nce again, the Shaker Woods Schoolhouse will be open for classes during the three-

weekend festival. Our school, now in its 22nd year, is run in the tradition of the shaker community and known as the “Children’s Order“. Classes were first held in 1992 and entitled “The Children’s Order.” This was the term used by the Shaker Villages to denote their schooling system. All classes are related to the craft that the teacher exhibits at the festival. Classes will be one and one-half hours and you may safely leave your child in the schoolroom while you shop. The teacher will be sure that your child is monitored until you return. Classes are held at the Shaker Schoolhouse and last approximately 45 minutes to one hour. During that time parents are free to shop unless otherwise noted below by the instructor. Your child will be secure at the schoolhouse until you return. Each teacher has determined the age range for their project. The fee for each class is $10.00 and covers all supplies needed. Please stop by the schoolhouse early in the day to register your child for the class of his/her choice. All of these classes are open to children of all ages. 5 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

ay and Kathy Tomczak are new to Salem, Ohio, having moved here last

June from the state of Idaho. Ray builds quality handcrafted painted furniture inspired by Shaker and Colonial furniture styles. His furniture pieces may look like antiques, but they are new reproductions. Ray has been building furniture for approximately 25 years. What started out as a supplemental source of income when Kathy stayed home to raise their children has developed into a full-time career building beautiful furniture for customers’ homes. Through word-of-mouth from happy customers, Ray’s furniture business has soared. The couple subsequently opened a large retail store to sell their furniture, as well as quality home décor and accessories. After operating that store in Boise the last 20 years, they were looking to simplify their lives and move closer to the Tomczak family in Pennsylvania, so they sold their store to their manager and moved east. Ray continues as a buyer, business consultant and furniture builder for the Idaho store. Now you can find Ray’s furniture known as “SHAKERS COTTAGE” here at the Shaker Wood’s Festival! Nature Cast in Concrete

JOSePH WASKO AND ANTHONY NAPleS

Joseph Wasko and Anthony Naples of Jamestown, Pa. stumbled onto horticultural art seven years ago. Their inspiration was a magazine article with directions on

how to make a concrete bird bath in just one weekend. Anthony said they had plenty of concrete left over, which led to a hobby they now call Leaf’crete. The talented artists cast fresh leaves out of concrete, producing a variety of unique products in all shapes and sizes, including bird baths, tables, garden pieces, wall hangings, oil lamps, pendants, magnets and more. The oil lamps are popular at outdoor shows where they’re able to be lit. Anthony said, “That’s the attraction. Just having them lit so people can see how they work.” Both retired, Joseph and Anthony grow most of the leaves on their property, which is on Pymatuning Lake. Some leaves, such as lotus, start to wilt as soon as they come out of water. Freshly cut rhubarb and hosta leaves can last four to five days in water. Since they need fresh leaves, Mother Nature dictates when they can craft their artwork. Most years they work from May until the first week in October. The retirees use all types and sizes of fresh leaves when crafting their wares. Anthony’s favorite is rhubarb, thanks to the leaf’s deep veins. Small leaves are perfect for magnets and pendants, while larger leaves are good for bird baths, garden pieces and tables, which can be used indoors or outdoors. Lilly pads also make nice tables because they’re naturally flat. Grape leaves tend to work best for their wall hangings and oil lamps, which come supplied with wicks, oil and funnels so they can be put to use right away. The artists have quite a following. Some customers collect the Leaf’crete pieces. One customer said, “I have several of these pieces of art in my home and they always get noticed and complimented.” Still others purchase them to give as gifts for weddings and other special occasions.

WoodhavenNew Designs for 2014!

I would like to extend to you an invitation to join us at the 2014 Shaker Woods Festival. My products are unique in the Arts and Craft business because I feature wood products each incorporating Hand Sculpted artwork. My pieces are all original designs that utilize a marble sculpting compound, hand detailing and time intensive antiquing process, which in turn gives them a very rich, old world appearance. As an added benefit to all of my customers, I finish all the pieces for either indoor or outdoor display and actively copyright each one to assure you that you will not find anything like them anywhere else. Please stop by for our regular demonstrations and experience works of art that are pleasing to behold and a joy to own and collect. Thank You

of ceramics while attending Glenville State College. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Art Comprehensive Studies with both a major and minor in art with a major emphasis in ceramics and a second minor in political science. In 1978 he graduated from West Virginia university where he attained a Master of Fine Arts Degree in ceramics. upon moving to a small rural town in central West Virginia, Latos set up his first studio and named it after the town where he lived and was to work, hence, The Linn Pottery. The main studio was a double car garage with an additional building which held his first 70 cubic foot car kiln. Within three years a new 1800 square foot facility was built for the main studio along with an additional enclosed area approximately 1,000 square feet, which was to house a 270 cubic foot walk in kiln and several other smaller kilns. Paul had a great desire to share his experiences as a potter. He was soon given that chance shortly after the birth of his only child when he accepted a teaching position at Fairmont State, a position which lasted for twelve years. After moving to Wheeling in 2010 and relocating his business, the name changed to The Linn Pottery Studio and Gallery. This move enabled him to return to the area where he grew up and allowed the business a chance to further grow and expand. A large beautiful gallery showroom encompasses the first floor. The second floor is his main private studio. The third floor is his residence. The lowest level in the building houses the kilns including four large electric kilns and a large computer-controlled, state of the art gas reduction fired car kiln. Also on this level is a classroom area where Paul continues his love of teaching others of all ages about the enticing, tactile, and expressive medium that he still enjoys working with after forty five plus years – clay! Visit Paul in booth 180.

Cody GibsonPerforming: August 9 & 10 at The Garden Stage

ody Gibson is an American country music singer/songwriter. Since he was a little kid Cody has been surrounded by music. Growing up in the small town of Hanoverton

there wasn’t much to do but listen to music and raise a little cane. His first real interest in music came in high school. Later he worked a lot of odd jobs, and eventually moved to California in pursuit of his music career, but doors kept closing. After moving back home, he continued to work until one night when singing karaoke at a local bar a lady approached him. She told him “If you sing Karaoke for the rest of your life there’s something wrong.” and he hasn’t looked back since. His first album Wash it Down with Jack wil l be released sometime in 2014. As a rising artist some of his influences and inspiration comes from artists such as , Alan Jackson, George Jones, Eric Church, Justin Moore, and Jason Aldean. As Cody says, “I love country music, but I still like some rock in my country.” His only hope is that when people hear his music they’ll love it just as much as he loved writing and sharing it.

The love of Woodworking Begins with Grandfather

JeReMY AND MeliSSA TAYlOR

Jeremy Taylor began his love affair with woodworking after his first high school

shop class. His mother still treasures the first shelf he made for her many years ago, to the most recent Mother’s Day gift: a cherry and walnut accent vase. Memories were made with his grandfather cutting wood and learning to identify each local species by the bark, grain pattern, color and leaves. He picked up his chisel and turned on his lathe to create one of kind gifts to give to our wedding party to commemorate this special event. A hand crafted pen & pencil set was presented to each wedding party member after careful selection of the wood that would best suit each personality and individual style. The pastor was presented with a set created using certified Bethlehem Olive wood. The children in our wedding party were delighted with the kaleidoscopes Jeremy made for them; the design element evolved from a child’s toy to a decorative conversation piece when created with exotic burl and inlayed with precious stone. Jeremy’s wife Melissa began assisting with the design elements several years ago and in collaboration with Jeremy inspired to bring alternative elements to enhance the natural beauty of the wood. In our work, you will frequently find inlays of semi-precious stones, such as Lapis, Turquoise and Red Coral as well as metals such as copper and brass, and sea urchins to create Christmas ornaments and even the occasional piece of jewelry. Jeremy had the honor of creating the toasting flutes for a colleague’s

wedding reception. This unique gift was created with curly maple and tiger maple, in keeping with the wedding theme and the family business, maple syrup. The request of a special piece to commemorate such an important event gives us the inspiration to create.

Our selection of wood includes domestic varieties, from domestic varieties such as Walnut, Maple, Oak, Box Elder, Redwood and Cherry to the exotics with wonderful names like Bubinga, Padauk, Bocote, Purple Heart and Tamarind. Our woods range in color as well from the rich brown of Walnut to the Purple Heart, Blood Wood, Yellow Heart and the green of Lignum Vitae. Part of the enjoyment is seeing the personality of each piece of wood come through in a finished piece. Each item is created with a love and respect for the natural materials used. Special orders are welcome and allow you to add a unique touch to the design element to commemorate a special event in your life or to thank clients, employees or a friend. Visit us at 8ooth 108 and preview a selection of items on Facebook at Taylor Woodcraft Designs.

ZZach Paxson

Performing: August 16 & 17 at The Meeting House Stage

ach Paxson is a blue collar, hard working American just like the majority of people in this country. He was just blessed enough to pick up an instrument at a young age. The

country singer/songwriter from Northeast Ohio literally slept in a guitar case growing up. His father, a bluegrass musician, has fronted the band Get Out and Push for Zach’s entire life and used to take the family to festivals all over the countryside. It was in the traditions of this musical style and those late night jam sessions that Zach honed his songwriting skills and musical talents. It wasn’t long before Zach started his own band “Futuregrass” and started performing infront of large crowds. It was during these times that he and his bandmates learned what an audience wanted, which was basically to have fun and they had no problem delivering high energy shows. After the band broke up, Zach continued writing and performing solo shows, but music as a career was put on hold due to the fact that Zach had started quite a good size family and it was important to him to be around. But the burning desire and calling of music lead him to Nashville TN in 2011 where he recorded his first CD titled “Good Luck With That” at the Beaird Music Group. Call it fate if you will but he was finally able to share with the world some of his great music he’d been holding inside his whole life. I’ll warn you folks, it’s addicting, and it will only leave you wanting more. Lucky for us there is lifetime of music inside him. For more on Zach and his music, visit www.zachpaxson.com

BoB Woofter,Penmaker

Bob and Marion Woofter, co-founders of American Made Pen, have returned to the Shaker Woods Festival after what they described as “A stunningly successful initial year” in 2013. Festival attendees will recall the theme of their display last year was “Easy Company”, a tip of the hat to the uS Army infantry unit of the same name and subsequently made famous by Hollywood. You see, the Woofters have always been avid supporters of the uS military due in no small part to the nature of their hand made flagship product, The Patriot Pen, a ballpoint pen made from spent rifle cartridges actually fired by our own men and women in uniform. Those knowledgeable with such things will quickly discern that each pen is made with two different cartridges, a .308 which was used in Viet Nam and current Gulf Wars and a .30/06 from both World Wars, the Korean conflict and Viet Nam. “Many folks ask how we get our cartridges; the answer is the D.O.D., the Department of Defense. We are very fortunate, indeed, to have obtained what is probably the very last of the military .30/06 cartridges. After these their simply won’t be any more.” Because all the cartridges were made in official uS government

armories, each bears an embossment indicating their originating armory and year of origin applied at the time of manufacture. Continuing with their recognition of our military veterans, past and present, Bob and Marion’s theme this year is BOMBER COMMAND, a salute to all the men and women of the original Army Air Corps and to the later uS Air Force. “Military recognition is always important but especially this year. With the recent D-Day anniversary we are reminded of the tremendous efforts and sacrifices that so many made in the interest of our nation.” Because the Woofters met so many veterans and their families last year they’ve chosen the Shaker Woods Festival” as the site to unveil the newest iteration of the Patriot Pen, the 21 GuN SALuTE PEN, a beautiful writing instrument crafted from cartridges fired by Honor Guards at veterans’ funerals. Each pen is adorned with 24ct gold fittings and is accompanied by custom engraved display devices commemorating the life and service of the deceased veteran. Command Pilot Bob Woofter and his flight crew can be found at booth 54.

Throughout the years, Joseph and Anthony have experimented with oil-based stains, acrylic paints and concretes. And they like to use different colors and develop new products to make, such as pen and business card holders, to name a few. According to Anthony, many people think the Leaf’crete items are ceramic. He added, “When they realize they’re concrete, they take an interest because they’re so different, especially guys who’ve worked with concrete.” Previously, Joseph and Anthony made the concrete items in a car port. A couple years ago, they built a studio to make their wares. Being inside makes it easier for them to control the temperature, which is important when working with concrete. Today, they also have a display room, where they like to meet new people who can see the many items for sale. They’re looking forward to Shaker Woods. Jewelry With an Unexpected Attraction

SeAN FOX

Unique Magnetic Jewelry began almost 15 years ago when Sean Fox humored a friend by wearing a magnetic bracelet to help with some

pain he was having. He didn’t think it was going to work, but the pain subsided and Sean began creating his own unique magnetic jewelry. (lower case) Soon, Sean was selling at craft shows and events up and down the east coast and into the midwest. Magnetic jewelry helps to decrease, and in many cases, alleviate pain caused by a variety of factors. The magnets Sean uses are the strongest on the market, and they work simply by weakening the nerve impulses that go between the brain and the pain. Customers have reported the jewelry helps with ailments such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, migraines and more. All of the jewelry is handmade using Swarovski crystals, semi-precious stones and other high quality materials. The stones and beads are really just for decoration, as the incredibly strong magnetic clasp is what does all the work. Sean designs jewelry for men and women to be beautiful as well as helpful. Please stop by Sean’s booth 113 and try on the large selection of bracelets, necklaces, and anklets available at the show. Sean’s puppy, Oliver, came along to show off the collars made just for pets with pain! If you are truly looking for a one-of-a-kind item, Sean can create a piece of jewelry right at the show for you. Sean began his business near Albany, New York and was able to quit his full-time job to focus on creating jewelry. He met his equally creative wife at a craft show in Virginia a few years ago, and together they live in Greensburg, Pa. with their daughter. Sean and his helper, Jim, can be found at shows almost every weekend of the year. They are known for their pink shirts, friendly puppy and unique magnetic jewelry. His jewelry is also available at www.uniquemagneticjewelry.com.

wenty-three years ago, Pittsburgher Jaime Roman found himself with time on his hands

while traveling for work. Between meetings he started making wire art, which he gave to his nieces and nephews. Jamie said they loved the items, so he began selling his creations at flea markets. When Jaime lost his job, he transformed his hobby into a full-time job and family business with his wife, Aisha. Jaime works seven days a week creating wire artwork that incorporate seeds. Aisha helps him when she’s not working her day job. The items, which the couple call Seedlings Wire Art, include wire planes, bicycles and more than 125 animal figurines. The bicycles include traditional and old style bikes (with a big wheel in front and a small tire in the back) as well as unicycles. The animals cover the gamut: bees, dragons, elephants, frogs, kangaroos, flamingos, caterpillars and even mosquitoes, spiders, snakes and scorpions. Each piece is unique, such as a frog in a yoga pose, and no two are ever the same. Jaime said he makes between 10 and 60 Seedlings Wire Art pieces per day. He uses a variety of seeds, wooden beads, hair, feathers and stainless steel wire to create each item. The seeds represent eyes, noses, claws and tails. Jaime starts by measuring and cutting pieces of wire. using basic hand tools, he turns, twists and bends the wire into planes, bicycles and animals. After shaping the unique creations, he paints them using bright and vibrant colors. The entire process can take up to 40 minutes for each piece. Some items can be purchased as a set or by the piece. Special orders and personalization of items are also available.

Seedlings With A Twist

JAiMe ROMAN

T According to Jaime, people of all ages like the wire art items. Even teenagers. “Their eyes light up,” he said. “We can’t keep up,” Jaime added. A typical day for him starts at 10 a.m. Sometimes he doesn’t stop working until 5 a.m. the next morning. Many people buy the Seedlings to give as gifts, but some collect them. Jaime said one customer owns 60 pieces. Others display them in their homes and offices. Currently, Jaime and Aisha work from home, but they hope to find a location where they can make craft the items they sell at festivals, galleries and stores year-round. The couple also sell hammocks through their company Three Rivers Hammocks. They are excited to be at Shaker Woods for the first time. Visit Jaime at booth 197.

looms and Shrooms is a new project of Ruth Gaines. She has been in the ceramic and stained

glass business, as well as farming, for more than 45 years. She started a small ceramic business in her home in Pennsylvania when her children were small so she could stay home and raise her children. After her children were grown, she taught ceramics and stained glass. Ruth put her ceramics and stained glass business on hold to get her Realtors license and worked as a Realtor for 10 years. When she retired, she restarted her ceramics business, but instead of teaching ceramics she focused on creating items for her garden, such as gazing balls, mushrooms, rocks with funny faces and fairies. She received so many compliments and requests from friends for the finished items that she started selling them. In addition to being fun and colorful pieces, they are easy to take care of, with no weeding or feeding required. Ruth offers a wide range of colors for every type of garden, from tradition to fantasy. She can even match the color trim on houses as well as campers. All her work is handcrafted and all products used, from they clay to the paints, are American products and eco-friendly. Stop by and see Ruth in booth 151.

lue Shades is a south-central Pennsylvania bluegrass music band, formed in the summer of 2001. This four-piece group performs a wide variety of bluegrass

music ranging from the high lonesome sound of traditional music, to the most modern songs of todays more progressive bluegrass sound, as well as prominently featuring the ever popular Bluegrass Gospel music. Whatever the style, they play it bluegrass. Comprised of four veteran bluegrass performers, with nearly 100 years of combined music experience, this band can play any venue. From a Sunday morning Gospel show to a Saturday night festival performance-whatever your favorite style, they have something you’ll like. That is, if you like bluegrass.
