PROFILE

PHILOSOPHYCosto is a combination of proper experience in handicrafts and materials, an unique vision of style and a strive for ecological and lasting solutions. All of these different aspects of Costo are connected by an all encompassing idea of quality, which guides all of Costo’s doings.

ECOLOGY

STYLE

In its traditional sense, quality shows up in Costo’s diverse professionalism and long experience in handicrafts. This quality is a result of the times when Costo manufactured all its products by itself. Even though those days are gone and most of the Costo products are now manufactured in an industrial setting, the experience from the past gives Costo mastery over the whole production process.

All new products are first handmade in Costo headquarters and thoroughly tested before they are submitted to production. This ensures that the quality of work is in check and that no flawed products escape from Costo’s design board.

In addition to workmanship, ecology is in Costo’s vision a measure of quality. This is evident in the combination of quality work and materials. The longer a product lasts and fulfils its duty, the more ecological it is. In materials Costo strives for ecology by producing a large part of their inventory out of industrial leftover materials. Large industries leave heaps of leftovers that go to waste. Costo has taken as its mission to turn these perfectly suitable leftovers into quality products.

But ecology does not just mean long life span of products and recycling. Costo also strives to widen the narrow combination of style and ecology. Normally products that are associ-ated with ecological values are monopolized by a very marginal group of people and style. Costo strives to overcome these borders and to produce a style that is ecological and does not bound people into narrow genres. Costo wishes to change the definition of ecological so that it does not refer to some narrow style, but instead becomes an implicit requirement of quality.

For Costo, style can also be a criterion for quality. Costo strives to make products, whose usability is not dependent upon fashion industry fads. Costo products maintain their stylishness regardless of the period in question. They do not just transcend time, but also oppose a kind of thinking in which fast changing trends constantly redefine what one ought to wear to keep stylish.

Costo tries to break borders that limit style to certain time or genre. This is why Costo products are not directed to any certain segment and it is essential that they do not classify customers into narrow boxes. A Costo hat may be sported by an elegant elderly lady striving for old-school stylishness or by an urban hipster who follows the latest street fashion. Costo’s style is in fact an anti-style. It goes against the prevailing throw-awayism, where things are produced only for a moment’s pleasure. Costo is not servant to any genre or time. It strives for style without borders. For Costo ecology, style and quality go hand in hand.
