Our tour will focus on how these special ingredients are used in enhancing day-to-day food preparation and enjoyment while devoting ample time to enjoy the breathtaking and inspiring

environment.

Costa Rica brings to the world’s table some of the most delicious ingredients while being praised as a leader in the utilization of sustainable and responsible farming practices.

The tour is led by Chef Jennifer Cornell a classically trained chef and owner of The Small Chef at Large Catering Company.

Jennifer a graduate of New England Culinary Institute, has a

passionfor cooking with over a decade

of experience at fine restaurants and resorts throughout the

Caribbean . Having resided in Costa Rica, Chef Cornell brings

personal knowledge and expertise surrounding the Costa Rican culture and culinary arts.

Day 1: Transportation from SJO International Airport to Hotel for

check-in, Group meet and greet with an orientation during cocktails

followed by dinner.

Upon your arrival at the airport you will be picked up by our driver for a quick twenty-minute ride to our hotel the Out of Bounds Boutique Hotel in San Jose.“Meet and greet” 5:30pm poolside. With cocktails in hand we will have a quick orientation facilitated by Chef Jennifer. We will review the itinerary, activities and help you book unique adventures and experiences during your free time in Costa Rica.Dinner at 7:00pm at the Taj Mahal Restaurant. Just a walk across the street andknown in San Jose as the original Indian restaurant in Costa Rica.Taj Mahal is famous for it’s excellent Punjab region cuisine, beautiful peacock garden and magical outdoor tropical patio.

Day 2: Coffee Tour, Lake Arenal, culinary class and time to enjoy the

hot springs/grounds of Arenal Paraiso

Wonderful light breakfast at the hotel begins at 8:15am. At 9:00 we will then board our luxury 14 seat van and chauffeured to the Naranjo region for the Espiritu Santo coffee tour. A wonderful opportunity for us to taste and learn planting and harvesting practices of Costa Rican Coffee growers and its impact on the culinary arts.After the tour we then head to the Lake Arenal region. On the drive we will see theLake Arenal regions which sit at the base of the Arenal Volcano in the northern highlands of Costa Rica and has the country’s largest landlocked body of water. In this beautiful and tranquil setting we will see hills of pasture and forested land with a spectacular view of Arenal Volcano.Check in at Arenal Paraiso Hotel.Following dinner is your chance to individually explore the grounds and thermal waters located on the hotel property.

Culinary Class begins at 5:00 pm followed by our dinner. Look forward to Chef Jennifer teaching us the best ways to incorporate Costa Rican coffee for new experiences in dining. Prepare and savor delicious coffee rubbed steak and we will even explore some coffee desserts.

Day 3: Nueva Luna Organic Farm, Adventures, Culinary Class & Baldi Hot Spring

Breakfast will begin at 8:15 at the Hotel Arenal Pariaso, and then it’s back on board the van for trip to the Nueva Luna Organic farm. The farm was established in 1994 with the planting and harvesting of organic spices and has quickly become a leader in the promotion of sustainable farming practices. A member of the Slow Food International Convivia, Luna Nueva offers us a chance to experience the Costa Rican rainforest while we learn about these sustainable farming practices and enjoy a gourmet lunch prepared from their produce at the Nueva Luna. Then we head back to the beautiful Hotel Arenal Pariaso in order for you to enjoy all the hotel has to offer. You can participate in horseback riding, zip lining, world-class spa services at the resort or just leisurely stroll the grounds and take in the spectacular scenery.

Culinary Class begins at 5:00pm. Chef Jennifer's class will focus on incorporating all of those fresh ingredients we bring back from Nueva Luna. After Dinner a short trip over to the Baldi Hot Springs your admission is included don’t forget to bring along some spending money in the event you would like a cocktail or late night snack

Day 4: It is all about YOU DAY!

Rise and shine for another nice breakfast at the Hotel Arenal Pariaso then it’s time to do your own thing.Check out the web site www.desafiocostarica.com. Everything is there for you to select from in the Arenal Region. A one-stop shop for adventure they offer a wide-range of activities such as whitewater rafting, kayaking, bird watching, canopy tours or just soaking up the beauty of this natural paradise. Your choice. But please don’t hesitate to ask if you need some help in selecting a great activity on your “All About You Day!

Day 5: Samara Beach-Kalimba Style, Fisherman’s Village at Carrillo, Sunset Cocktails at Puerto Carrillo Hotel,Culinary Class at Villas Kalimba

Enjoy breakfast at the Hotel Arenal Pariaso. Then we travel by van to the gorgeous pacific coastline of Costa Rica. We will be staying at the Villas Kalimba Hotel just steps from Samara Beach. The villas are surrounded by a tropical garden with a pool in a private setting.After checking in you will have the afternoon to swim, ride the waves or just soak up paradise. We are within an easy walk to a small grocery store and even a few local bars or restaurants for you to enjoy.We meet up again at 5:00PM for a jaunt to the Fisherman’s Village at Carrillo Beach to buy some great “just caught” seafood. A quick stop at the Puerto Carrillo Hotel to view the famous pacific coast sunset while enjoying a special cocktail.

Culinary Class: As a group we will return back to the Villas Kalimba around 7:30pm in order for Chef to share with us how to properly prepare Ceviche and some Sushi for us to enjoy for our dinner.

Day 6: Latin Breakfast by Chef Jennifer Beach Day and Poolside Cocktail Party,Dinner at Lagarta Restaurant

Chef Cornell will prepare a typical Latin breakfast for us this morning beginning at 9am. She plans on featuring an array of fresh tropical fruits as well as delicious breads and pastries. After breakfast just take off to the beach and enjoy the sun and sand.Our poolside cocktail party will begin at 6:00pmThen we hop back on our luxury van for the short drive to Lagarta Restaurant. One of the most romantic spots on the coast, Lagarta is well know for having a spectacular view of the coastline, surrounding hillside and is part of a private biological reserve. Their Chefs menu consists of different styles of meat and local fish with an accompaniment local fruits and fresh vegetables.We will be taken back by van for you to enjoy an evening of leisure back at the Villas Kalimba.

DAY 7: Poolside Continental Breakfast, Tour of San Jose and Explore the Artisan Market

Depart the Villas at 8:00am and travel by luxury van for the return trip back to San Jose.

Hotel Check In then off for a private tour beginning at 1:00pm to see the sights of the Historic San Jose.

We will have a chance to view the capitals monuments, some gorgeous residential areas of the city and learn about the uniqueness of Costa Rica.No trip to Central America would be complete without a stop at the Pre-Columbian Gold museum. Famous for showcasing jade, stone, gold and pottery artifacts.After our guided tour we will then venture over to the Artisan Market. This is a great place for souvenirs, handcrafted goods such as colorful hammocks, carved wood, jewelry and clothing. This is our chance to bring back some local treasures made by area craftsmen and vendors. Around the market it’s well known as a place to grab some delicacies for a light snack to hold you over until dinner.Depart the Artisan Market at 6:00pm to freshen up at the hotel prior to our dinner at a local Costa Rican Tippico for our last hurrah.
