Experience and Learn The Clarion in Costa Rica program is a two week, three-credit study abroad course that will enable students to experience the Costa Rican society while learning about business, government, arts, and ecological practices, and understanding Costa Rica’s history, and economy. This faculty-led opportunity is open to all majors; to receive Fall credits. Students will write a research paper as it relates to their field and complete any other assignments as indicated by professor Sandra Trejos. About Costa Rica: Costa Rica is a country located in Central America that has unlimited tourist potential and is ranked as one of the most visited international destinations. One of Costa Rica’s main sources of income is tourism. For several years, it has been first in the ranking for the happy planet index. Each day there is a debrief session and students are expected to keep a journal of learned lessons and experiences.

Dr. Sandra Trejos is a professor of Economics at the College of Arts, Education and Sciences. Her fields of expertise are economic development and international economics. She does research on economic growth, happiness economics, economic education, and environmental sustainability. She has led this class in Costa Rica in Summers 2014 and 2016.

Approximately $1,875.00 in addition to the Fall credits. Included: Housing, breakfast, welcome

and departure dinners, on-site

transportation, excursions, and airfare.

Housing

Students will be housed in a centrally-

located University House (Casa

Universitaria) during their stay in San José,

Costa Rica. Rooms will be double/ triple

occupancy.

Program Requirements

Undergraduate students from any major interested in Latin America with a minimum GPA of 2.8.

Sophomore standing (24 credits or more before Summer 2019)

Excellent judicial records
