Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic Dentistry is a discipline within dentistry in which the primary focus is the modification of appearance of apatient's oral cavity and surrounding structures, in conjunction with the prevention and treatment of organic, structural, or functional oral disease. Through cosmetic dentistry, the appearance of the mouth can be altered tomore closely match the patient's subjective concept of what is visually pleasing.

» Teeth WhiteningTeeth Whitening is the most commonly prescribed cosmetic dental procedure. While many whitening options are

now available, dentist-supervised treatments remain the recommended procedures for lightening discolored teeth.

» Smile Designing

Smile designing is the ability to change the appearance of a tooth or a row of teeth, and more importantly, it's theability to change the way someone smiles.

» Tooth Jewellery

Tooth Jewellery fitting takes about 10 to 15 minutes and is completely painless as there is no cutting of the toothsurface.

» Orthodontic Closure of DiastemaThe term Diastema is used to describe open spaces between the upper incisors (front teeth). A diastema is createdby an unequal relationship between the size of the teeth and the jaw.

EndodonticsEndodontics is a specialty of dentistry, which deals with the tooth pulp. The pulp (containing nerves, arterioles and

venules as well as lymphatic tissue and fibrous tissue) can become diseased or injured and thus is unable torepair itself. The pulp then dies and endodontic treatment is required.

» Root Canal TreatmentThe most common procedure done in Endodontics is root-canal therapy, which involves the removal of diseasedpulp tissue. The tooth consists of two parts: the crown and the root. Inside each root is a channel that runs thelength of the tooth. This channel, called 'the root canal', contains the pulp (nerves, blood vessels and soft tissues). The tooth aches when the gum is inflamed or infected.

Dental ImplantsDental implants are used as an alternative to bridges to replace lost tooth/teeth. A titanium implant is set in thetoothless area of the jawbone. The jawbone fuses with the titanium surface providing a strong anchorage for the

implant. The implant functions as a support for the dental prosthesis - like a ceramic crown - constructed over it.Whether for a single tooth or replacement of all of a patient's teeth, dental implants are now recognized as standard

treatment for a complete range of teeth problems.

» Dental ImplantsThe dental implant procedure begins with a thorough diagnosis and treatment planning. A recipient site is createdin the jawbone with drilling instruments and the implant is inserted into it. In most cases, a healing period of 3 to 6months is required for the jawbone to fuse with the implant.

» Bone GraftingBone grafting is performed to reverse the bone loss / destruction caused by periodontal disease, trauma, or ill fittingremovable dentures.

Orthodontics

Orthodontics is a specialty of dentistry that is concerned with the study and treatment of malocclusions (improperbites), which may be a result of tooth irregularity, disproportionate jaw relationships, or both. Orthodontic treatmentcan focus on dental displacement only, or can deal with the control and modification of facial growth.

» Ceramic BracesCeramic braces utilize less noticeable brackets for patients concerned about the appearance of their smile.

Ceramic brackets are translucent, so they blend in with your natural tooth color.

PeriodonticsPeriodontal (gum) diseases, including gingivitis and periodontics, are serious infections that, left untreated, canlead to tooth loss. Periodontal disease is a chronic bacterial infection that affects the gums and bone supporting theteeth.

» Gum DiseasePeriodontal disease can affect one tooth or many teeth. It begins when the bacteria in plaque (the sticky, colorlessfilm that constantly forms on your teeth) causes the gums to become inflamed. In the mildest form of the disease, gingivitis, the gums redden, swell and bleed easily. There is usually little or nodiscomfort. Gingivitis is often caused by inadequate oral hygiene. Gingivitis is reversible with professional treatmentand good oral home care.

» Gum ContouringGum Contouring is a surgical procedure where in the gums are shaped by surgical incisions, under localanesthesia to a more esthetically balanced appearance. This is called a simple cosmetic gum lift.

» Oral Prophylaxis

Sometimes regular brushing and using dental floss will not always assist you in getting rid of deposits on teeth. Occasionally you might need professional dental cleaning to remove such unseen and unwanted deposits.

» Flap SurgeryFlap surgery can be described as the loosening of the gum from bone to expose and clean underlying toothstructures by means of an incision on the gum close to the tooth under local anesthesia. The entire area is thencarefully cleaned and all tartar and infected granulation tissue are removed and the bone is examined.

» FrenectomyA frenum is a fold of tissue or muscle connecting the lips, cheek or tongue to the jawbone. A frenectomy is the

removal of one of these folds of tissue.

» GingivectomyIt is a minor surgery wherein the dentist is engaged in removing small amount of gum tissue that forms a part of thetooth supporting tissues. This surgery is usually performed on patients who are not happy with their smile orpatients who cannot maintain good oral hygiene due to enlarged gum tissues.

» Oral Prophylaxis or cleaning of teethWhen there are hard deposits seen around the tooth or maybe also below the gum line than cleaning isrecommended. This procedure is also known as Scaling, or oral prophylaxis

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

An Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery is carried out as a cosmetic surgery and the surgeon envisages changing the face ofa person from distortion to proportion.

» Orthognathic SurgeryOrthognathic Surgery is sometimes called "Surgical Orthodontics" because just as an orthodontist repositions theteeth with the help of braces within the oral cavity, the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon repositions one or more jaws

(skeletal bones) through surgical procedures to produce a much more pleasing appearance and also improvedability to chew, speak and breathe.

» Impacted TeethIn dental terminology an "impacted" tooth refers to a tooth that has failed to emerge fully into its expected position inthe oral cavity.

Restorative DentistryIn dental terminology, "veneers" or "laminates" means a covering on the front side of a tooth for its cosmeticenhancement.

» Ceramic InlayCeramic inlays are visually pleasing and they imitate the natural tooth substance to every extent. It isn't an exagger

» Porcelain VeneersPorcelain Veneers are very thin pieces of durable, tooth shaped porcelain that are custom made by a professionaldental laboratory.

» Crown and BridgeCrowns and bridges are fixed prosthetic devices. Unlike removable devices such as dentures, which you can takeout and clean daily, crowns and bridges are cemented onto existing teeth or implants, and can only be removed by adentist.

» Plast Partial DenturesValplast partial dentures are gradually replacing the conventional metal dentures. Today dentists are prescribingflexible material for removable partial dentures (RPDs) because it makes a better, stronger appliance faster.

ProsthodonticsDentures are artificial substitutes used to replace all or some of the lost teeth and adjoining tissues to maintainfunction, health and esthetics of the tissues. So in simple words dentures help to replace lost teeth.

» Complete DenturesA complete denture is a dental prosthesis that replaces all the teeth and contiguous oral tissues in order to helprestore the function, health and the appearance of the patient. Complete dentures can be made for the lost upperand the lower teeth.

» Immediate DenturesAn immediate denture is constructed before teeth are removed from the patient's mouth so that the patient doesn'thave to move around with out teeth till the final denture is ready. Constructing immediate dentures involves takingimpressions (making copies) of your mouth before the teeth are removed. When your remaining teeth are removedthe denture can be inserted immediately.
