Thursday morning, April 20, Legends members met at the Braums in Denison. Tom Lainson led us north on US 75 to Daisy, OK. Then took Hwy 43 East where we ran into a little fresh oil and asphalt being applied to the road. Lunch was in Talihina, OK at Pam’s Hateful Hussy Cafe, known for the best darned average food anywhere. We left Talihina via the Talimena Scenic Byway to Mena, AR. We enjoyed 60 miles of beautiful vis-tas looking a lot like the Smokey Mountains. We made one stop, to take pix and Deneault’s 64 Coupe puked out antifreeze, so we didn’t stop again for fear of more overheating. Sam shifted gears more for the rest of the trip, which seemed to solve the problem. Total trip from Denison was 265 miles and about 7 hours including lunch. The Dyers had driven 121 miles to reach Denison from home. Our tour group was Tom Lainson, Carl Johanson & Esther Towles, Bill & Diane Preston, Bill & Nadine Tichy, Larry & Jan Dyer, Sam & Linda Deneault, Ron Hanson, and Al & Barb Macdonald. Ken & Linda Dobbs took the direct route, trailering their Silver 1963 Coupe up I-30. Dobb’s Corvette had won the Best in Show Award last year and their car was featured on this year’s event logo and all the event T-Shirts and was on display during the show Saturday. We had dinner together near the host hotel on Thursday night. Friday morning the serious competi-tors began cleaning their cars, while everyone else slept in, shopped or participated in the scenic tours. That afternoon was the parade through Hot Springs to the evening dinner where Mike Yeager of Mid-America Corvettes was the Speaker. Most of us ended up at Ma-

masita’s Restaurant and celebrated Nadine Tichy’s 21st birthday... again. About 175 Corvettes moved into the Con-vention Center for the show Saturday morn-ing. The threat of bad weather decreased the participation, but the weather was actually quite good with only a little rain during the night Friday and Saturday. Awards began with Lainson’s 2nd place trophy in C-1 class and the Ideal Pest Control Award. Then Prestons won 1st in C-1. The

Macdonalds were SHOCKED to receive 1st in C-7 convertible. Preston’s 57 continued to win trophies for Best Wheels, Best Engine, Everett’s Dealership Choice and People’s Choice. It was also given the Governor’s Award, Elms Family Choice and Brett Thornton Award. Dobb’s car wasn’t entered in competition, but was selected for the State Farm Trophy. Thankfully Dobbs could bring home Preston’s trophies in his trailer, or Diane would have had to hitch hike.

Saturday night Tom selected a wonderful Italian res-taurant behind the Arlington Hotel for dinner for our group. Ron Hanson had left for home and Dobbs were loading up Bill’s trophies, but the rest of us had a great dining “experience” at Angel’s Italian Grill. in the Park. Sunday was a beautiful day for the drive home.

Legends spring ’17 Trip Fredericksburg, TX Al Lisbona did a great job of planning a really great trip to Fredericksburg on Friday April 14. Most members met at McDonalds in Grapevine, TX. We zipped thru Ft. Worth via 820 and took I-20 west where Zacharys and Johansons joined us. Then on west to Hwy 16 where we headed south and had a great lunch at Rocking J’s in Comanche, TX. Mike & Sharon D’Uva joined us there. The first winery stop was in Comanche at the Brennan Vineyards. We relaxed under lush pecan trees on their beautiful grounds and sampled their various wines. Driving straight south on Hwy 16 into Fredericksburg, we checked into the Sunday House. Dinner was a few blocks away at The Auslander Restaurant. Then we en-joyed the beautiful evening around the fire pit at the hotel. After breakfast Saturday morning some of us went to The National Museum of the Pacific War. It is an awe-some museum. It would take several days to take in all its information plus the Admiral Nimitz Museum and the Command Center Museum that adjoin it. We met up for lunch at Fredericksburg Brewing Co. with the other Leg-ends who had spent the morning shopping, touring Fred-ericksburg and checking out the Volkswagon show that was going on in town. The Winery Tour began after lunch. We went to Fat Ass Winery, Messina Hoff and Becker Vineyards which took all afternoon. We had Dinner at Mamacita’s Mexican Restau-rant across the street from our hotel. It was a special treat that evening when we drove to the airport and met Al’s friends Bob and Karen Snowden and saw their hangar, planes and cars. We learned a lot about his planes and flying experiences. Then we went to The Officer’s Club at The Hangar Hotel located at the airport. It is a uniquely decorated facility and was very interesting. Members making the trip: Al & Mary Anne Lisbona, Tom & Mary Jean Entrekin, Ron & Pat Cople, Wess & Laura Griffin, John & Mickye Zachary, Bill & Nadine Tich, Bill & Diane Preston, Mike & Sharon D’Uva, Carl Johan-son & Esther Towles, Ken & Kathy Weller, Tom Atchison & Julia Kelsey, Wess & Laura Griffin.

Al Lisbona will be leading a cruise to Fredericksburg, TX April 14-16 Tom Lainson is coordinating the Hot Springs Covette Weekend, April 20 – 23 John Zachary was given a card welcoming the arrival of his “new” baby, a ’65 Corvette. He gave a brief description–all original, came from CA, drove it to the meeting. Jerry Echols reported that 14 cars represented the club at the Dallas New Car Show Classic Car Corral March 21-26. He is still awaiting word on the date we will be participating in the car corral at the State Fair in October. Ken Dobbs recommended bringing cars to Friends Place in Richardson on June 16 for residents to look at and enjoy our old cars. Since the club will no longer have a charity auction, Patriot Paws will be at our July meeting with dog(s); members can make a contribution at that time. Also, Linda Dobbs prepared forms that can be provided to Tom Thumb that directs contributions to Patriot Paws. Bill Preston passed around a sign-up sheet looking for volunteers to man the Patriot Paws booth at the Pate Swap Meet on Friday, April 28. He also reminded everyone about the Cars & Coffee show the last Saturday of every month at Gateway Classic Cars in Grapevine. Meeting adjourned at 1:05 PM followed by the raffle.
