Cortidex - Concise Prescribing Information Manufacturer Sanbe Contents Dexamethasone Indications Allergic states, collagen diseases, rheumatic disorders, leukemias, shock therapy, resp diseases, haematologic disorders, oedematous states . Dosage Tab Adult 0.5-9 mg in divided doses. Childn 6-12 yr 0.25-2 mg, 1-5 yr 0.25-1 mg, ≤1 yr 0.1-0.25 mg. To be given 2 times daily. Inj Intensive therapy or emergency 2-4 mg 6-8 times daily. Max daily dose: 50 mg. Shock condition 1-6 mg/kg body wt. Administration Should be taken with food. Contraindications Peptic ulcer, osteoporosis, psychoses or severe psychoneuroses, active or quiescent TB; acute infection; live vaccines. Special Precautions HTN, CHF, DM, infectious disease, chronic renal failure, uremia. Elderly; pregnancy. Adverse Drug Reactions Fluid & salt retention, edema, HTN; amenorrhea, hyperhidrosis; mental disturbances; acute pancreatitis; aseptic osteonecrosis; muscle weakness; Cushingoid state; raised IOP; visual disturbances; local atrophy; increased appetite; growth retardation. View ADR Monitoring Form Drug Interactions Efficacy may be reduced by phenytoin, phenobarbital, rifampicin, vit A, tetracyclines & other antibiotics, thiazides. Oral anticoagulants, oral hypoglycaemics & salicylates. Drugs should be given only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the foetus. (in 1st trimester) Category D: There is positive evidence of human foetal risk, but the benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk (e.g., if the drug is needed in a life-threatening situation or for a serious disease for which safer drugs cannot be used or are ineffective).
