Thispresentationflowsfromresearchthatexaminestherole,placeandfunctionofElderswholeadhealingprogramsinCorrectionalServiceofCanadaInstitutions(prisons).FromtheknowledgecollectedandassessedinthatprocesswewillexaminethedichotomybetweentheretributivejusticeparadigmappliedinthedominantcultureandIndigenousmethodologiesthatarevestedinadifferentworldview.Thispresentationfocusesonthemethodology(Ritual,CeremonyandIndigenousknowledge)appliedwithinElderLedhealingprogramsandarguesthatretributivejusticeandrestorativejusticeparadigmapproachescurrentlyappliedwithinthedominantculturecannotproducesuccessfulcommunityreintegrationformenandwomenofIndigenousdescentaseffectivelyasIndigenousapproachesbecausetheycannotovercometheeffectsofintergenerationaltraumacarriedbythedisproportionatepopulationofincarceratedIndigenousmenandwomenheldunderfederalwarrantinCanada.
