Dear Family in the Lord,

Knowing that by virtue of our Baptism we are all called to be

bearers of the Good News, witnesses to Jesus, within the unique

situations and context of our varied vocations, it can be exciting! It calls

us to living authentically, not going forth saying “look at me,” but

rather, as St. Paul put it, “Imitate me, as I imitate Christ.” But, if we’ve

tried to embrace the opportunities, we all know it can be challenging at

times. Our culture tells us that unbridled “tolerance” is the key indicator

of whether we are good people or not. The “politically correct” stance

that says that “I have my truth and your have yours” is a hallmark of our

relativistic culture. Sadly, Truth is not embraced as a person - Jesus

Christ - but rather, His Gospel, in which we hear Him proclaim “I came

that they might have life, and have abundantly” is simply looked at by

some as one opinion among many.

In all three readings today, those who are “sent” as witnesses are

warned that there will such a climate to deal with, in one way or another,

in all times and places. The Old Testament prophet relates his call and

the Lord’s clarity in that call: “I am sending you to those who have

rebelled against me… hard of face and obstinate of heart, but you shall

say to them: ‘Thus says the Lord!’ And whether they heed or resist…

they will know a prophet has been among them” (Ezekiel 2:2-5). The

psalmist cries out about receiving mockery and contempt for living the

Lord’s call (Psalm Psalm 123: 1-4). We are reminded of our own

weakness as we try to embrace this message, and St. Paul reminds us in

the second reading to trust more in Him than ourselves, for, as he puts it,

“in weakness power reaches perfection… when I am powerless, it is

then that I am strong!” (2 Corinthians 12:7-10). Finally, in the Gospel,

with all He came to bring, we hear that His own townsfolk “took offense

at him.” He was too ordinary. They thought they knew Him. It

concludes, “He was amazed at their lack of faith” (Mark 6:1-6).

So, disappointments, resistance, thought that we are too ordinary,

or own shortcomings… will these keep us back? I hope not! If we have

experienced the grace of perseverance, the grace to be the messenger

(and not think we have to be the messiah), then we know the great hope

and joy, whether we feel successful or not, that comes from embracing

the call given all of us as disciples - to be His witnesses. How can we

not get discouraged, with ourselves, with the response of others, or at

times, with the almost insurmountable odds of secularism around us?

The refrain we echoed repeatedly today from the psalmist gives us the

way: “Our eyes are fixed intently on the Lord, pleading for His mercy!”

Keep on keeping on!

With you on the Journey,

UPCOMING NEEDS

FOR

TIME & TALENT

In coming months we will be exploring various things.

Please look through the list below, and if you have particu-

lar talent/skill/background that could benefit our parish

efforts in any of these areas, please email Fr. Gary at

[email protected] and tell him about it. As sum-

mer winds down in early September, he would like to

gather these various focus groups to explore possibilities.

Not a commitment at this point, just info gathering about

your gifts and your potential interest!

We are blest by so many gifts in such diversity within our

parish presently, and the unity created from the diversity is

coming from our desire to build His Kingdom, deepen our

relationships with the Lord and one another, go deeper,

and be ever more effectively who He calls us to be here on

NH’s seacoast.

ish efforts and movement

Prayerfully consider your gifts! Step forward! Let’s ex-

Parish Mass on TV and Online

Did you know? Every week Channel 98 (local public access tele-

vision) broadcasts the 4:00 PM Holy Mass which is celebrated on

Saturdays at our Immaculate Conception Church. The Mass then

airs Sunday morning at 10:00 AM and is repeated at 7:00 PM on

Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Or, view the weekly Mass, you can also check out our YouTube

Channel. Just visit CorpusChristiNH.org, click on “Media”, and

then choose “Recorded Parish Mass.” Look for “Via Our

YouTube Channel.” Click to find our weekly Masses, listed by

date. Spread the word, especially to those confined to their

homes or to local nursing homes.

Keep Our Youth In Prayer! Next Friday through Sunday, a group of our teens will be

gathering with thousands of others from all over New England for

Steubenville East - a dynamic Catholic revival featuring praise,

worship, teachings, and fantastic fellowship to renew and ignite

the walk of our teens as disciples and witnesses of Jesus. Let’s be

united in lifting them up daily in our prayer, as we will at all

parish Liturgies! A word of thanks to all who generously

“invested” in this experience for our youth by helping to sponsor

them!

Summer Adoration Hours The Blessed Sacrament is exposed daily,

Monday through Saturday, from 7:00 to 7:55 AM.

In addition, on Thursday, exposition is extended

after Mass for adoration until 12:00 Noon. We

will resume afternoon hours after Labor Day.

Want To Be An Altar Server? We are blest with an outstanding crew of altar servers! Want

to be part of this service of Jesus, His priest, and our community

at worship? Any boy or girl who will be entering 4th grade or

higher this Fall is invited! Simply call in the name, parent contact

email, and phone number to Mary Kay in our office. You will be

contacted by John St. Pierre, the Director of our Servers, to set up

training time. At that time he will ask for Mass time of

preference, etc. As things slow up a bit, the summer is a great

time to be trained. John does each training personally, working

out dates and times that work best for each potential server and

the family. Encourage your kids, folks! It’s a great way to enter

into the Mass more fully and understand it more profoundly.

John teaches the “why,” not just the “what”!

Church Open for You! It’s great to see more and more people discovering the great

gift of our open church and the benefit of some quiet one on One

time with the Lord before His Real Presence within the tabernacle

of our church. So many, of all ages, have been sharing the effects

of time spent with Him,

listening, being inspired by the

beauty of the sacred place, and

finding the rest of the day

enriched by those minutes spent

with Him. The center door

opens at 7AM every day and

doesn’t close until 8PM.

Discover the gift! Bring the

kids! It’s so heartwarming to

see parents teaching from the

windows, images of saints,

praying with children, then

kindling a votive candle in one

of the shrines to have the prayer

intention “linger” in the

presence of the Lord!

Remember... we form the stories our kids will tell about what it

was like to grow up Catholic! No teacher, no class, no preacher,

nothing can replace mom and dad, first and best teachers of their

children, mostly by living example, of the ways of faith!

Traveling Vocation Icon

This week, Fr. Gary will receive the Icon of Jesus

Knocking at the Door into his home and intercede

in a special way for Joe, Dan, and all in formation,

for those discerning, and for many vocations to rise

up from our community.

Each Fall we begin a series of no obligation “Come &

See” Inquiry sessions as part of our RCIA process.

These are for adults who were never brought up in any

faith, never baptized or baptized in another Christian

faith, or maybe baptized Catholic but not brought up in

the faith, maybe never having received First Communion

and/or Confirmation. Some folks who come are invited

by family or friends. Some have been coming to Mass

here with their spouse and family for a while, but are not

Catholic. If you, or someone you know, might want to

explore the Catholic faith you/they would be most wel-

come! Over the summer we invite folks who would like

a bit more info on this process to reach out to us so we

can set up a time to meet individually and informally.

You can email Fr. Gary at [email protected] or

Brenda Stinson, our RCIA director, at faith-

[email protected], or call 603-436-4555 to set

up time to meet for information without any obligation.

Spiritual Gifts Would you like to prayerfully remember a departed loved

one, maybe on their anniversary of death or birthday? Or, maybe

remember and ask birthday blessings for a relative or friend who

is living, or pray for healing of illness, or remember a wedding

anniversary or other significant day? You could do this in some

of the following ways as a spiritual gift for them in the House of

the Lord!

Have the Sanctuary Lamp burn for the intention for a week

(Offering: $15/week)

Have the two votive candles burn for a week at the altar of

St. Joseph or our Lady (Offering: $10/week)

Have flowers adorn the high altar for a week (two bouquets

for $100)

Contact Mary Kay in our office if you would like to reserve a date

now. These, like the Mass Intentions, fill up quickly. She has

some cards you can send to one who is living telling them of the

spiritual gift you are offering for them.

Mission Accomplished!

I am very happy to report that everyone returned home safely from our Mission

Trip last month, and I think that I can speak on behalf of the entire team and say

that it was a life changing event, even for those of us who had gone last year. We

were able to accomplish much of what we had set out to do for Sister Annie and

the Residents of Damien House as well as a myriad of projects for Sister Fanny

and Sr. Gladys at Una Sola Fuerza. The seven of us crammed almost all of your

donated items into 14 suitcases (about 700 lbs. of supplies!) and carried them

with us. You can’t imagine the poverty and cost of simple things in Ecuador that

made the diapers, toothpaste & brushes, school supplies, etc. extremely precious

to them!

I would like to pay a special tribute to each team member: Alan Vangile

(parishioner), Roy Helsel (parishioner), Rudy Wiechert (parishioner), Tony

Lumpkin (Colorado), Pat Larkin (Connecticut) and Mike Jarosz (New

Hampshire). In addition to paying all their own expenses for the trip, they each

contributed $500 in supplies, and then reached deeper into their wallets to help

even more after we arrived. This was on top of the money donated by you all!

Regarding the projects we were able to accomplish, here are a few details:

Damien House:

painted six rooms

installed a row of hallway lights

put up flood lights for security

added emergency lights

moved furniture

donated packages of men’s and women’s underwear to the residents

replaced broken ceiling tiles

donated a large cache of tools (drills, saws, hammers, screwdrivers, tool kits, etc.)

Una Sola Fuerza:

bought all materials, and helped prepare and build a playground consisting of swings, seesaws, and monkey bars

bought a special food grinder to make powders that can be used in making highly nutritious drinks for

malnourished children and expectant mothers

donated school supplies to the aftercare program

donated vitamins and healthcare supplies

Just as importantly, I feel, were the personal connections we made with everyone we met; playing dominoes with residents of Damien

House; teaching English to a classroom in El Rincon; playing with neighborhood children from Una Sola Fuerza; celebrating Father’s

Day with the Seniors at the Senior Center, and listening to the stories of women struggling as they work extremely hard to raise

themselves and their families out of poverty.

Stay tuned for a chance to see more pictures and hear from the team at a presentation to be scheduled soon. Also, know that there will

be many more opportunities to continue to support our newfound family in Ecuador with contributions of money and supplies (details to

follow). Currently, there are plans for another Medical Mission in Fall 2019 and volunteers will not need to have medical experience or

speak Spanish (though either would help). Who knows, there might even be another Service Mission sooner rather than later!

We are extremely blessed to be a part of Corpus Christi Parish. We could not have done it without the support and prayers from

everyone here. Thanks to you, we were able to truly put our Faith in action, and to say with confidence, mission accomplished!
