Pastor’s Notes

I’m so pleased to present the names of all our young people about to receive the Sacrament of Holy Confirmation on Wednesday 15 July! Our resident Auxiliary Bishop Andrzej is so kind to offer this celebration, especially after all the cancellations in the Spring. I as Pastor already Confirmed five candidates, and will Confirm some more in the Fall, because they are away this month. Bishop Barres has given all Pastors this faculty to celebrate Confirmation due to the impact of COVID-19. But most important are your prayers for all these gifted teenagers who are willing to give their lives to Christ in the Church, empowered by the Spirit of Jesus Himself! Later this July we will be celebrating First Holy Communion for the children of our parish family. Traditionally these joyful Masses are in the month of May. But Mrs. Susan Anaischik and her team of catechists have been working diligently to make it a magnificent experience of First Eucharist. The children are such an inspiration to us as adults, because of their natural enthusiasm and excitement to receive the Body of Christ; hopefully every Sunday all life long. I must confess that lately I’m a bit of a distracted driver when I’m moving along Jericho Turnpike in Mineola. It’s so great to see the poster-pictures of all the 2020 graduates from Mineola High School lining the street (along with the pictures of the Chaminade graduates on their campus). Even though they lost out on many of the graduation traditions because of pandemic; we nevertheless are so proud and so blessed to witness their crossing this threshold into exciting careers and colleges for their bright futures. May God bless all the “great-grads” of 2020!!

One summer time work project in Corpus Christi is re-surfacing the gym floor in our school for the kids. Last year we had a major flood which damaged the tiles that had been on the floor for more than 60 years. Because this was an accident covered by insurance, our Church will only be paying the standard deductible, plus a little more for a brand new floor that looks like real wood! The surface has a thin cushion layer underneath that will protect our ball-players from injuries. Our CYO with the leadership of Joe Basil and his coaches will make fantastic use of our re-newed gym. And center court will be a circle with a cross inside (like the Host), surrounded by our name. Corpus Christi. Go Lions!!! Finally, you probably will not see me at Masses this weekend. As I write this, I am scheduled to fly to Las Vegas, Nevada (not for casino gambling!) for the graduations of my two nieces/goddaughters. Their dad (my brother Bryan) died 10 years ago from cancer, eventhough he himself was a doctor. I really hope that the visit happens, despite all the fears and flying restrictions by which we now abide. Please say a prayer that I make the round-trip safe and sound. Yours in Christ, Father Malcolm

Dear Friends: Pope Francis likens the stone that sealed the tomb of Jesus to the tombstones of the pandemic that “threatens to bury all hope...” But he reminds us that “we are not alone, the Lord goes before us on our journey, and removes the stones that paralyze us. This is the hope that no one can take from us. The disciples of Jesus discovered something that we are now learning: No one is saved alone.” Support of the Catholic Ministries Appeal allows us to continue to serve so many in our community as you journey with us to bring hope to others. Through the Catholic Ministries Appeal we support the ministries that help us as we build up the Body of Christ, such as Pro-life efforts, formation of seminarians for the priesthood and Faith Formation and education of our children and young adults. We have been working together with our schools to assist the underserved to get much needed internet service so that children are able to continue their education and parents can work from home. It helps to support Catholic Charities and our Parish Outreach programs. Catholic Charities meets the needs of Long Island throughout the year, but during times of crisis they are on the front lines providing emergency services to those in need; expanding food programs and services for seniors who are isolated or homebound. Our Parish Outreach programs are working diligently to meet the needs of the growing demand of families reaching out to them for help. During this unique time, there are so many ways to bring hope to others. One way, if you are able, is to provide assistance by making a gift to the 2020 Catholic Ministries Appeal. Your continued support is critical at this time. We are so grateful for your generosity and commitment. Please know that you and your family are remembered in my daily prayer and Masses. Sincerely in Christ,

Most Reverend John O. Barres Bishop of Rockville Centre

TheFifteenthWeekofOrdinaryTime

The Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time is about God’s fidelity. The promise of Isaiah 55 and Parable of the Sower from Matthew's Gospel remind us that no matter what obstacles we face as his disciples, as sowers of the Good News, God will work effectively through us. "But the seed sown on rich soil is the one who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and yields a hundred or sixty or thirty-fold."

Português DÉCIMO QUINTO DOMINGO DO TEMPO

COMUM

A semente é sempre boa.

CAROS AMIGOS, A NOSSA IGREJA ESTÁ ABERTA NOVAMENTE ESPERANDO POR VOCE. A NOSSA FAMÍLIA DE CORPUS CHRISTI NÃO ESTÁ COMPLETA SEM VOCE. ESPERAMOS POR VOCE E PELA SUA FAMÍLIA. E CONTINUEM A SER GENEROSOS COM A SUA IGREJA Padre Tomaz Gomide
