Company Profile
CSR 2018
Brand is convinced that Corporate Social Responsibility is the only way of doing business, which will lead to a better future for all involved current and future stakeholders. This future concerns the aspect of People, Planet and Profit.
Sustainable development of the organization starts with good employment practices. Internal as well as external stakeholders are actively involved in this sustainable development. The requirements and wishes of these stakeholders (as a supplement to the legal framework) are seen by Brand as a necessary input with respect to further joint development.Compliance with the applicable legal and the stakeholders requirements are therefore an absolute minimum that must be met.
The core values of Brand are also an integral part of doing business within Brand. And the success of Brand is partly determined by the success of the stakeholders on the three CSR aspects mentioned above. When the ratio between the three P’s is out of balance, this will have an adverse effect on the continuity and profitability of the organization.A good balance is achieved by:
People
The people are central to Brand, not only within Safety but also within the area of Health and Well-being. This concerns all employees who work for Brand.Brand not only wants to focus on current employees but also on future employees.Good employership looks ahead. Here, too, Brand closely involves the stakeholders in developments within Brand. In Brand’s vision these stakeholders also determine thefuture of the organization.
Planet
Where Brand undertakes, the consequences of doing business are taken into accountWithin the direct and indirect surroundings. Brand's activities are organized in such a way

that they’ll have a minimal impact on the environment on short term, but also on long term.Reduction of CO2 emissions, energy consumption, and managing waste flows are central to
this. In addition, there is increasing attention for the circularity of product.
Profit
Only by means of Corporate Social Responsibility can Brand show continuity in thebusiness operations, be a reliable partner for all its stakeholders and its growth ambitionsfor the future.
Brand has set goal to get within a year after the initial certification for the CSR performance ladder level 2, certified for level 3.

13 - CSR Measures12 - Policies
Overview of concrete measures and programs, illustrating how the CSR strategy is implemented in the organization, including actual performance (impact).
Employment of vulnerable personnel
Description: Due to physical demand of our work such as working at height or offshore, employment for people with limitation is very difficult. But the opportunities are considered. At the head office we work with a special contractor (Alescon), to maintain the yard, like removing of weeds and small maintenance. Furthermore Alescon takes care of all post-delivery from the head office. This contractor Alescon is an organization that works together with 6 municipalities within the province of Drenthe to execute the law Social Labour Act.Mid 2018 we offered a deaf person an internship for one year. He receives the ‘Wajong‘ for a minimum allowance for young disabled persons.Impact: Due to the collaboration between Venko and Alescon we give people with fewer labor opportunities a perspective
on work.
Control measure temporary employment
Description: We only work with employment agencies that are VCU and NEN 4400-1 certified. An intake induction form checks the ID, the required certificates and if HSE instructions are provided. This induction form has to be signed off. All in accordance with our overall mantle agreement for the agencies.Impact: Assurance to comply with laws and regulations regarding employment relationships.
Safety on the work floor
Description: Safety on the work floor is a really important issue. Since 2018 we started a new safety behavior program in the organization called ‘Samurai’. The program is built on 3 themes. Before work (knowledge), during work (system) and after work (behavior). This kind of system is also applicable for incident investigations. In the general introduction we have the policy to follow our 'EHS introduction course'. All the employees have to sign a form that they received all instructions. Our HR department is responsible for this action. On all our locations our SHEQ-plan is displayed as a poster on the walls. We have also introduced a Last Minute
CSR Measures
Human Rights
Labour
Risk Assessment to create more safety awareness.Impact: If we work with all the measures and initiatives we take to create a high safety culture, this should result in our goal of zero incidents.
Sustainable employability of
employees
Description: Our work is physically demanding. A lot of effort is made to make sure that employees reach their retirement in good health. We offer a voluntarily physical test with advise to improve employees health. We also aim to reduce absence through illness.Furthermore we have a Brand Learning Network. Brand values the commitment to learning and complying with organization wide rules and regulations. As such, we have invested in the opportunity to provide a user friendly interface where you can gather more knowledge as you progress along your career path. We also have a training plan which contains courses focused on health & safety, quality and professional knowledge . The input for the training plans are a result of the performance appraisals and appraisal interviews. Since the takeover by Brand, Venko is included in the department absenteeism and health statistics. Actions will be implemented for the re-integration of our employees to reduce our absenteeism figures.Impact: In 2017, our absenteeism figures increased with 34% relative to the year before. Sadly we had some long-term illness in the organization.
Employee satisfaction
Description: Venko Group aims to periodically perform an employee satisfaction survey (last time in 2014). As Venko is growing as a company and operates more and more internationally, management believes it is important that employees are committed to the associated core values of the company. In addition to the annual HSE day, where all branches and employees are invited, other initiatives have been launched. A newsletter is being sent periodically and the 'pizza session' started with the topic “Venko in 2030”. This is an informal interactive session to discuss the opportunities and risks for Venko until 2030. Certain themes are worked out in working groups. The input is appreciated by the management and employees experience involvement on Venko's future.Impact: With these measures, Venko aims to keep its employees involved in company development, and to increase employee satisfaction. A new satisfaction survey will be conducted in 2018.
WeCare CSR magazine
Description: Four times a year Brand issues a WeCare CSR magazine for our employees as well our other stakeholders.Impact: We create more awareness
internally as well externally for our CSR measures and initiatives.
Prevention of environmental damage
Description: All blasting grit, coating residue and other chemical waste are disposed correctly by a qualified company. On project locations precautions are made to prevent that residue material could damage the environment. Grit extractors are used to make sure that there will be no grit waste on project sites, and the environment will be protected. The grit will be recycled so it can be used again once dust is removed from the grit. In the end we have less waste and we use less grit for our services. Our grit supplier is responsible for taking care of the waste. They arrange a waste company for the disposal from the projects sites to the final destination Attero.Impact: In 2017, we had 6 more environmental incidents than the year before. All of the incidents happened on one of our biggest projects where environmental damage was a really important thing to monitor. Even the smallest and near-misses incidents where documented to learn from it in the future.
Sustainable use of materials
Description: As an abrasive, we now use the residual remaining from coal plants
(copper-slag). Because of the reduction in the number of coal plants, we are looking for alternatives, like laser cleaning and ice blasting. Wherever possible we reuse blasting grit several times.Impact: Venko strives to work together within the sector and suppliers to improve on sustainability throughout the value chain. At the moment there is no quantitative impact, but this will change in the future.
CO2 reduction and mobility
Description: In order to achieve a reduction on CO2 emission we decided to purchase green energy for all our locations, except for the Den Helder branche. With regard to mobility, we are challenging company car drivers to drive economically. Annually we award the best driver of the contest ”Driving Style Ranking”. We also structurally measure the tire pressure in order to drive economically.Impact: Between 2010 and December 2016, we have reduced our carbon emissions with 12%. Our CO2-footprint reduced 6,24 % in 2017 in reference to
2016.
Social and sustainable initiatives
Description: We want to make an effort to the local Salvation Army, a non-profit organization that supports people in the underclass. We support them financially in their mobility needs (surveillance car). Also we decided that once we are working on projects on amusement parks, we will arrange certain entry tickets for the non-profit organization 'PlekZat'. This organization is supporting children that cannot live at their homes anymore.
Environment

17 - CSR Measures16 - CSR Measures
Besides these initiatives, we have decided to reuse obsolete stationary as scrap paper (notebooks and notepads; supplier EnvelopeBook). Impact: The impact of the initiatives cannot be measured. We just feel the need to implement these kind of charity initiatives to support the social environment.
Responsible shoes
Description: We decided to purchase safety work shoes, needed for our employees, only if the production is child labor free. We have selected the manufacturer of the Emma - Billy work shoes who meets these requirements.Impact: Less child labor in the supply chain.
EthicsPoint Hotline
Description: The Brand Ethics Point Hotline is a communication tool and is offering a way to report issues in a confidential way 24/7.Impact: Creating a confidential work environment for our employees.
Customer Satisfaction and Complaints
Handling
Description: Customer satisfaction is very important for Venko. This is monitored by our quality management system, which measures customer satisfaction (on a scale of 1 to 5) and complaints.Impact: The number of abnormalities (including complaints) has increased significantly from 32 in 2016 to 122 in 2017. The average customer satisfaction has reduced from 3,9 in 2016 to 3,6 in 2017. A big influence in the drop of the figure is CO2 awareness, which most of the response was a score 3 which means they are neutral on the subject. A significant part of our customer base has no affinity with this topic in the work atmosphere activities and responded in the customer satisfaction survey form with “not applicable” or “neutral”. As of next year the sales department is responsible for monitoring the customer satisfaction. In case there is a low response or a lower degree on the forms they will ask feedback from customers to improve our customer satisfaction.
Automated external defibrillator (AED)
for the community
Description: We recently registered our AED on the heart foundation(HartStichting.nl). Our AED's can now be used for everyone
who receives an emergency call when someone has a heart attack. In the Red Cross smartphones App, the AED's are located for anyone who wants to know where to go when they need an AED.Impact: It could save lives if there are more AEDs within the area, so the arrival time to a victim will be much shorter.
