KPMG is a modern, rapidly growing company, employing the leading professionals in their field. The professional services we offer are highly valued by the global business

community, and our clients include transnational companies and individuals, both of whom use our cutting edge insight to grow and achieve greater success. The most

important asset KPMG possesses is our people, who not only work hard but also believe that this world can and should be a better place. KPMG people are people who expect

their organisation to make a significant contribution to the development of their communities, and people who themselves want to be part of the change and deliver results.

Corporate social responsibility is about businesses actively engaging in social dialogue. For KPMG, this specifically means helping to tackle real, concrete social problems, and pooling our resources to create opportunities, share our experience and support best practice among those working to improve our communities. We value cooperation, take our obligations seriously, and are ready to engage in dialogue to address diverse and sometimes highly challenging societal problems. In this brochure, we present our most meaningful projects and invite you to partner with us.

«Corporate social responsibility at KPMGis a company value that in many ways defines our corporate culture. In our

everyday work, we are committed to the principles of ethical conduct, and we recognise that business solutions can only be genuinely

effective when everyone is personally involved. As a professional services firm,

we are well aware that what we do has a serious effect on the economic prospects of our clients, both quantitatively and qualitatively. We apply the same approach to our CSR projects, directing our efforts and resources towards the development of services in the social sphere and supporting NGO service providers. Whenever I visit a children's hospital or a center for children with special needs, help judge a student competition, or make decisions on environmental initiatives at KPMG, I feel proud of our firm and our people. At the same time, the needs are so great in this world, I see that there is still so much we can do».

an average age of the KPMG donor28 years —

90 donations

450 ml each

360 blood donations per year

Who are we helping, and why?

Sick children in need of blood transfusions in order to help them

cope with serious illnesses and gain strength to get better.

What are we doing? We provide our staff with opportunities to donate blood in the office. It takes just 10-15 minutes

to give a standard blood donation of 450 ml.At the Haematology Center, the blood drawn is then separated into blood components, and then transfused to children who specifically need it. As such, in giving blood,

one donor can save the lives of several children at once.

Who is helping us?A team from the Federal Medical-Biological Agency’s Haematology Center

and the ‘Grant Life’ Charitable Foundation.

Why are we doing this? To ensure an adequate supply of blood and its components for medical purposes,

a country needs at least 40 donors per 1,000 citizens. In Europe, there are on average 25-27 donors per 1,000 people; in the USA and Canada,

35-40. In Russia, however, the figure is currently just 14 donors per 1,000 people, and in Moscow that number is less than 10.

There are many people at KPMG; we advocate a healthy lifestyle; and we want to share what we have with

those who need it.

What are the results?Everyone benefits: Our employees can donate safely, spend less time by doing this in the office, meet colleagues in a different environment, widen their horizons, take pride in themselves and their company, receive advice and support and be confident that their contribution will go where it is needed, as guaranteed by the ’Grant Life’ Foundation and its partners. For the Federal Medical-Biological Agency, the benefits are obvious: regular replenishment of its blood banks, as well as an ease in obtaining the blood and new social contacts. For the ’Grant Life’ Foundation it is about hundreds of children's lives saved, new supporters, and new donors being added to its database. For parents, clearly, it’s the chance to see their children alive and well.

Who are we helping, and why? People supported by the Civic Assistance Committee: refugees, displaced persons and immigrants. As ever, these groups of people are the most neglected by social services and charity donors in Russia. While immigrants from non-CIS states receive some assistance from their own governments when they come to Russia, immigrants from post-soviet countries receive no such help. Those applying for Russian citizenship can expect to wait up to two years from the date they submitted their documents to hear whether or not their application for a passport was successful. Throughout these two years, they struggle to find employment, send their children to school, access medical services, or travel within or out of the country. The people supported by the Civic Assistance Committee face serious hardships in all aspects of their lives and need help.

What are we doing? Twice a year we collect good-quality clothing and necessities that fit into 10 categories. This is our only project in which we provide humanitarian aid directly to a specific NGO.

Why are we doing this? Our aim is to support people in this difficult situation by relieving some of the burden of psychological, social and economic pressures they face. We also aim to raise awareness of the Committee itself and its activities, and bring further attention to the needs and rights of migrants and displaced persons.

Who are we helping, and why? Special needs children and their families, ensuring that children are not taken away from their mothers, and helping the mothers of these children to cope better with care needs and access the sources of help available to them. Children with special needs require help from various professionals, including psychologists, lawyers, doctors and special needs experts. Through the joint efforts of families and professionals, even the most challenging problems can be dealt with, enabling parents of special needs kids to enjoy simple things and activities with their children, like any other family.

What are we doing?KPMG employees are becoming social investors by financing the services provided by the professionals helping these families, or by directing their money towards vouchers for family leisure activities, such as shopping for presents, or family meals out together. Those benefitting from this KPMG project are the clients of our partner NGOs, the Center for Curative Pedagogics and the Volunteers Helping Orphans Charitable Foundation (Otkazniki.ru).

Who are our partners? The Center for Curative Pedagogics (CCP), which works with special needs children, the Volunteers Helping Orphans Charitable Foundation (Otkazniki.ru), which works with children from social risk groups (primarily under 3 years of age and children being brought up by single mothers in difficult situations (i.e. lacking citizenship, having missed out on education or being unemployed, those with emotional and behavioural problems, those recovering from substance addictions, etc.), and the DetskieDomiki Charity Foundation, a charity that supports vulnerable children living in either institutional care or outside in the community by providing them with aid packages and support.

Why are we doing this? We believe that fundamental changes in the way vulnerable children are cared for in Russia are needed. Owing to the work of NGO service providers, more and more children are able to avoid being separated from their loved ones; their development accelerates, leading to more success now in school and laying the foundation for a better future. For those looking after these children, this support makes it possible to cope with the hardships of life and to be better parents or care-givers.

What are the results? In the pilot phase of this project, 410 employees from all grades, intern to partner, from 5 KPMG offices in Russia, became social

investors. Together, we donated 495 vouchers for services to special needs children and their families. We regularly publish stories about the people who have been helped by our employees, and those who have participated in the project have provided very positive feedback and asked if they can continue to remain involved.

«Our partnership with KPMG is quite unique. KPMG understands that 'social orphanhood' cannot be relieved by giving teddy bears to children in children's homes, organising special celebratory occasions or even building fantas-tic playgrounds. Social problems need to be tackled methodically and consistently, and require, first and foremost, expert assessment and concentrated effort in the areas where something needs to change».

9HELPING LOCAL COMMUNITIES

Phoenix

Twice a month

Who are we helping, and why? Project Phoenix helps those giving the help. We support the professionals and helpers caring for special needs children, who face great emotional and psychological stress in their work every day. Specifically, we help the carers, psychologists, doctors and teachers who work with special needs children. Most of the professionals we have worked with have admitted they need help to avoid professional burn-out and remain sensitive to and focused on the needs of their clients.

What are we doing? KPMG initiated the idea of forming a Balint group, led by a professional facilitator, to help the specialists. These group training sessions are based on the research of, and a methodology devised by, Michael Balint, who, from 1949, ran group discussion seminars at the Tavistock Clinic in London for practising doctors and psychiatrists. Balint groups have been running in developed countries for more

than 50 years, and their experience shows that the opportunity to share feelings and experiences with colleagues and discuss specific work situations enables professionals involved in giving care to cope better with stress and to grow professionally. KPMG provides a venue and refreshments for the group's regular meetings and remuneration for the group leader.

Who is helping us? The group leader (a professional trainer and consultant in social sciences) and invited guest experts in specific areas of social work.

Why are we doing this? It is important for us that child patients in any hospital are welcomed by caring doctors who understand that being in the hospital is a frightening experience for the child, and who are able to articulate in simple language what will happen. It is vital that a pregnant 16-year-old is able to go to a support center and be treated with respect and be listened to; that people working there have extensive experience and can help her learn how to be a good mother to her child. It matters that hospice staff don’t just implement pain control programmes, but build relationships, respond to the needs of their

3rd season

patients and respect their decisions. And to do all of this, the professionals need to be able to get the resources they need in order to continue supporting their patients and their families.

What are the results? The group is now in its third

season, and is highly in demand from the professionals of both NGOs and state run institutions. The group meetings occur twice

a month, and are always supervised by the same person, which guarantees continuity and safety for participants. The group is open and allows for any professional working in these spheres of care to join at any point in the cycle.

Page 10: Corporate Social Responsibility: Our view · In this brochure, we ... «Corporate social responsibility at KPMG is a company value that in many ways defines our corporate culture.

Who are we helping, and why? Sick children who have to undergo frequent or lengthy stays in hospital and are at risk of psychological trauma. Our concern is that those involved may not fully realise the negative effect staying in hospital has on any child. Professionals do not pay enough attention to how hard the experience is for the little patients, and paediatric units do not provide enough psychological support for children and their families; in-patient departments lack the facilities for children to play and continue learning; and it is hard to arrange treatment for children without parents. We aim to address these difficulties and contribute to improving them.

What are we doing? Renovating the non-medical areas in paediatric units so that the children being treated there have somewhere to play and develop; running art therapy classes for patients and doctors to help them reduce stress and talk about their experiences in words and pictures, and learn more about one another; and finding doctors and clinics for children from children's homes who have complicated and rare medical conditions.

Why are we doing this? To help make the healthcare system more civilised and humane. It is important that the non-medical side of hospital treatment for children improves in Russia, for all children to have equal access to the best healthcare, for children to get better or recover faster after serious treatment and return to normal life, for the psychological and age-related needs of child patients to be recognised and understood with tact and consideration, and for doctors to know that there are resources able to help them and their patients available.

What are the results? Public perceptions of what ill children and their families need are gradually changing, and there is a growing awareness that it is possible to create a friendly environment in children's clinics, and of how to do so. Children's hospitals are increasingly dedicating space for play, which is a natural and vital part of any child's life. The Children in Hospitals project is a unique partnership between business, clinics and child psychology professionals working together in the interests of children and their families.

Children in Hospitals

«I have been working in the devel-opment of art therapy and expres-sive therapy in Russia for more than 15 years. Bringing art therapy into children's hospitals, in partner-ship with KPMG, is an example of working together to provide high quality care for sick children. I believe in the healing power of art and creativity. I think it is very important to humanise the environ-ment in children's hospitals, by taking psychological factors into account, and by using art therapy classes to speed up the recovery and rehabilitation of children and their parents».

LITTLE STEPS TOWARDS BIG CHANGES

Page 11: Corporate Social Responsibility: Our view · In this brochure, we ... «Corporate social responsibility at KPMG is a company value that in many ways defines our corporate culture.

«KPMG became a partner of the Center more than 5 years ago. During that time, we have completed many amazing projects together. A few years ago, a friendly and professional KPMG volunteer team built a wooden fence around the extensive grounds of the Center s summer camp near lake Valdai. In the Mum's Kitchen and Dad's Kitchen projects, KPMG volunteers fitted out two superb new kitchens at the camp for the parents of the special needs children. As a socially responsible company, KPMG is totally unique. In just a few years, we have seen its charity programme grow from providing targeted assistance to individuals to supporting professional organisations working with people with special needs. For us, such cooperation has been an incredibly important experience; after all, the more 'ordinary' people take an interest in and contribute to the lives of special needs children and their families, the more integrated and tolerant our society will become».

11

Summer volunteer project near lake Valdai

Who are we helping, and why? Special needs children and their families who

have limited opportunities to enjoy holidays together.

What are we doing? Each summer, KPMG volunteers go to lake Valdai and help prepare a summer camp for special needs children run by the Center for Curative Pedagogics (CCP). Every year, our volunteers work behind the scenes to enable

hundreds of families to enjoy a comfortable holiday at the camp. KPMG funds all of the

renovation work.

Why are we doing this? In Russia, there are practically no holiday camps

catering for special needs children, despite family holidays being an irreplaceable part of any child's life. The CCP camp is a unique venue that

gives special needs children the opportunity to integrate, learn, make new friends and become

more independent. More than 500 children visit the camp every year, and we are aiming to make

the camp more and more comfortable for them. As well as helping to achieve this, our volunteers

gain the experience of working with a professional services NGO and the chance to

get to know their colleagues better and spend a few days in one of the most beautiful parts of the

country.

Who are we helping, and why? The main target group here are students, who form teams to tackle a particular social, environmental or economic problem. The main advantage of the programme is the close cooperation which occurs between the students and representatives of the business and academic communities. KPMG supports the Enactus programme in every country in which it operates, and in some countries we are a platinum sponsor.

What are we doing? We help to fund the activities of Enactus in Russia, and representatives from our firm help judge the regional and national rounds of the student project competitions. As the teams work on their projects, we come alongside and provide expert support to the teams, helping them prepare for the next stages of the competition. In addition, KPMG Partner George

Pataraya chairs the Enactus Board of Directors in Russia.

Why are we doing this? We are interested in identifying, attracting, retaining and developing young professionals in the market. This objective is not just about selecting experienced managers; it also involves attracting the best university graduates. Our work with programmes supporting student initiatives represents a meaningful investment in the sustainable development of our company. It is also a direct route to the pool of the most talented and successful business leaders of the future.

What are the results? During one year, students implement more than 300 projects, which include 30 percent of their time in SMEs in their region, creating jobs, leveraging intellectual capital, aiding local economies to grow and helping to solve humanitarian problems.

Who are we helping,

and why? Big Change is a charity that supports the residents and former residents of orphanages and children's homes. It has a unique educational center where teenagers and young adults study for national exams and can obtain school-leaving certificates, as well as learn how to build stable relationships, how to best plan their future career and how to become self-reliant and independent.

What are we doing? We finance the foundation's main activities, and our volunteers regularly take part in events involving the students of Big Change: „Music Lounges” and student conferences. Two more

joint projects between KPMG and Big Change are currently under consideration: a discussion and research group called „Why volunteer?” and a careers advisory group for the foundation's older students.

Why are we doing this? We believe that it is important to give children who have been deprived of parental care and have grown up in institutions the opportunity to get an education and to reach their creative and professional potential. Our aim is for them to have the chance to start their own families and raise their own children in a responsible way. We want for them to feel supported, not isolated, and to be able to live as integrated members of society.

«It is great that companies in Russia are finally recognising the importance of adopting systemic approaches to working with children with developmental delays. We all know that these children and their families are in desperate need of well-functioning support mechanisms. This means qualified professionals helping them achieve things which seemed impossible for them; this means preparing these children for integration into the education system and wider society; it means helping them find work and preparing them for an independent life... but for these changes in children's lives to take place, it is not enough to just bring them toys and presents. Sustained hard work is needed in training personnel, organising high-quality family support services and ensuring that these services operate smoothly and continue to evolve».

15EDUCATIONAL PROJECTS

“Confident Start”: Developing Early Intervention Services in Nizhny Novgorod RegionWho are we helping, and why?Early Intervention means targeted, professional help for young children at high risk of developmental problems due to biological or socio-economic factors. Early intervention services promote a family-oriented approach, provided by a multidisciplinary team of child development experts. Their work takes the form of individualised developmental, educational and therapeutic services for children, in conjunction with expert and structured support for those around the child. By contributing to modern Early Intervention programmes, we help vulnerable young children overcome developmental delays, enabling them to better learn, play, get about and communicate; and help their families and those around them to be more resourceful and sensitive to the special needs of their children.

What are we doing? We are funding Early Intervention training for professionals already operating within state-funded centers providing help to families and children. In partnership with regional authorities and state-funded social and educational institutions in Nizhny Novgorod region, we are implementing an integrated educational project involving leading Early Intervention experts in Russia.

Who is helping us?The Ministry for Social Policy in Nizhny Novgorod region and the Department of Education in Nizhny Novgorod region.

What are the results?More than 200 professionals from 10 pilot

centers took part in the first phase of the project in 2009–2012. All of these centers now provide various Early Intervention services for children at risk of developmental delays. Feedback received from the pilot centers, the experts involved and the children's families has been nothing but positive. The goal of the current, second phase of the project is to expand the network of Early Intervention services in the region to include pre-school educational institutions, in order to create a continuous and sustainable model of care through implementing more widely Early Intervention programmes.

Page 17: Corporate Social Responsibility: Our view · In this brochure, we ... «Corporate social responsibility at KPMG is a company value that in many ways defines our corporate culture.

Who are we helping, and why? The Russian Children Palliative Care Foundation

(RCPCF) works with children suffering terminal or life-shortening conditions. It is the combination of high

medical, emotional, economic and social risks that characterises the needs of these children and their

families for integrated support. There is no tradition of professional support for such families in Russia, so the foundation has had to start from scratch in designing a system to help these children and introduce practices

such as home visits.

What are we doing? We are supporting the foundation with expertise and

resources. The foundation frequently comes up against outdated regulations that result in the rights of children

and their families being violated. For example, the issue of parental access to children in intensive care remains

unresolved: tragically, dying children can be left alone with people they do not know,

with their parents forbidden access to them. Each

hospital has its own rules, and there is no

common legal framework. At the

request of the foundation, our KPMG

lawyers have looked into this issue on a pro bono

basis. Having analysed all aspects of the matter and

current legal practice in this area, they drew their

conclusions and have suggested a way forwards. In

terms of resource assistance, we are funding a professional

development programme for specialists from the foundation,

including their participation in international conferences and

other knowledge-sharing streams.

17IMPROVING SOCIAL WORK PRACTICES

Yulia ChechetPresident of the Russian Children

Palliative Care Foundation

Why are we doing this? We believe that it is important for every child to be with their loved ones for as long as possible. We also aim to make it easier for them to have access to the integrated services that are so important to the quality of both the life of a child and the lives of those around him or her.

What are the results? The RCPCF has joined the Russian Ministry of Healthcare’s working group, which is tasked with developing regulations for child palliative care. We hope that the recommendations from our professionals will help change the situation towards making care in this sphere more humane.

«I came into child palliative care by pure accident, after reading an article in Esquire magazine about the agony in which children can die without pain relief and professional palliative care. Many people ask me, why has this issue in particular grabbed me; I answer them with 'out of the shock and fear': shock at what I read and fear that this is still happening. This has motivated me to drive the creation of both the foundation and its two key projects, Mobile Palliative Care and the Resource Center. Together with KPMG, we have launched a social initiative to allow children to remain with their parents while in intensive care, and the support of such a reli-able and professional partner is invalu-able. I think it is very important, when solving particular issues, to engage everyone who cares».

18 LITTLE STEPS TOWARDS BIG CHANGES

Page 19: Corporate Social Responsibility: Our view · In this brochure, we ... «Corporate social responsibility at KPMG is a company value that in many ways defines our corporate culture.

Why is this important for us? We endeavour to minimise the negative impact of our business on the environment, and do all we can to bring nature in city life. KPMG cares about the health of its employees, so a safe and comfortable working environment is a priority. It is important for us that those who work for our firm breathe clean air, drink clean water, work with environmentally friendly materials, and are aware of and able to make use of all available resource conservation practices. In turn, this helps our employees become more interested in conservation and developing responsible environmental attitudes in others. They care about our environmental initiatives and get personally involved in them.

What are we doing? The main goals of our environmental approach in Russia are to use natural resources as sensibly as possible, to recycle or safely dispose of waste, and to raise the level of environmental awareness among our staff. We are gradually introducing modern "green office" practices, we work with green NGOs, and we inform our employees of the environmental impact of certain behaviours and the options available to address, in our own small way, global issues. We involve our people in our environmental work.

Who are our partners? KPMG works with both major environmental organisations, such as the World Wide Fund for Nature, and local green organisations, such as the Prioksko-Terrasny State Nature Biosphere Reserve.

The majority of our partner NGOs (non-governmental organisations) provide specific services to their clients on a daily basis.

* As there are no specific ratings for NGOs in Russia, this assessment is based on expert opinions, the issues these NGOs address, client feedback, and the opinion of institutional NGOs such as the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF).

These NGOs are among the most resourceful players in the development of modern humanitarian practices, though their public profiles remain relatively small. We believe it is important to strengthen the NGO sector by supporting these organisations.

The NGOs KPMG supports have strong and sustainable advantages: professional values, experience, expertise, professionalism, creativity and commitment to a cause. Most are leaders and pioneers in their fields*, each has unique experience, and their stories are proud tales of how they have contributed to developing civil society.
