In December 2007, Mobilink took a concerteddecision to establish a distinct legal entity as avehicle for corporate giving. Registered underSection 42 of Pakistan Companies Ordinance1984,MobilinkFoundationcame intoexistenceas a separate corporate foundation to assistmanagement in deploying a more focusedand hands-on approach to Corporate SocialResponsibility(CSR),whichinsomecasesdrawson theexpertiseandknowledgeof the fundingcompanytoaddresssocio-economicchallenges.

TheFoundation’sclosealignmentwithMobilink’score activities and long-term business interestsallowsittoachieveagreaterimpactandensuresthat the Foundation’s efforts can be sustained.The CSR strategy draws on the Foundation’sknowledge and networks of organizations itcooperateswith,whileatthesametimebenefitsfrom Mobilink’s financial clout and humanresources. This collaborative approach allowsMobilinkanditsFoundationtogobeyondwhateach entity could achieve on its own to reachscaleandachievealastingtransformativeimpact,acrossthecountry.

In line with Mobilink’s group-wide approach,the Foundation strives to provide marginalizedsocietieswithaccesstofreeeducation,healthcare,relief during times of natural catastrophes,and also undertakes initiatives to preservethe environment for future generations. TheFoundationhasbeenknowntoextendassistanceto individuals in need and institutional partnersnotjustinfinancialterms,butalsowiththehelpofthousandsofdedicatedvolunteerhours.

Withtruealtruismasoneofthemainobjectivesof the Foundation, the administrative and theoverheadcostshavebeenkept low, inorder toensure that every rupee donated to MobilinkFoundation is invested towards making adifference.

During the year 2015, Mobilink continued itsdrivetochampionWWF’sGreenOfficeinitiativebyverifyingitsHeadOffice,MobilinkHouseandadjacent IBC II building as Green Offices. Thisaward is a testament to Mobilink’s successfulimplementation of Environmental ManagementSystem throughoutitsofficesinPakistan.

The Green Office Award is a result of acomprehensive audit conducted byWWF. Thecertificationeffortwaslargely e m p l o y e e -driven. The project included deployment ofMobilink’s employee volunteers as ‘GreenWardens’, who advocated the recycle-reuse-

reduce scheme in addition to their day to dayduties.Aspartofthefinalaudit,WWFinterviewedemployeesofMobilink’sIslamabadHQtosenseand assess the employee involvement in theinitiative.

Mobilink’s Corporate Responsibility andHealth Safety & Environment (HSE)teams have helped to reduce theconsumptionofwater,electricityand the production of solidwaste.Aftera thoroughauditofitscorporateoffices’carbonblueprint,itwasassessedthatMobilink’s carbon emissionshave reduced by 35%, whilesolid waste production hasdroppedby50%.

Throughout last year, GreenWardenshaveproactivelyadvocated

the ‘recycle-reuse-reduce’ philosophyacrosstheorganization.TheseGreenWardensare tasked with educating and inculcatingamongstfellowcolleaguesthecriticalimportanceofeco-friendlybusinesspracticesandthebenefitsgainedthroughtheseactivities. In the area of Network Energy Reductionand Efficiency, power system optimizationwas initiated by Admin and Technical Teamsnationwide. The projects targeted remodelingof HQ Power backup system, introduction ofthe energy- efficient low carbon emissionGen-Sets, office lighting system rearrangement,remodelingofchilleroperationsandpowerfactorimprovement.

Furthermore, Mobilink promotes amongst itsstaffthemaximumuseofdaylightforday-to-dayactivities.TheCorporateResponsibilityfunctionand Green Wardens regularly organize eco-preservation walks and cleaning campaigns inselected endangered eco-systems across thecountry. 3) SMS Based Literacy ProgramIn2009,Mobilinkdevelopedapilotschemewith UNESCOandtheBunyadFoundationtoeducateruralwomen,agroupmostlyexcludedfromtheconventionaleducationalsysteminPakistan.Theprojectstartedin2009with250femalelearnersin rural Punjab, and by the endof 2013, it hadembraced 5,000 women across the country.Mobilink’s mLiteracy program helps teachersofferabasicliteracycurriculumusingSMS–withfreeconnectivityforteachersand learners.Theprogram’s project facilitators organize classesinsmall learningcenters invillages,often in thehousesoflocalelders,andlearners’responsesareloggedintomonitortheirprogress.

Theprojecthasexpandedtoenableruralwomentobettermanagedomesticfinance,andtoraisesubjects such as religious tolerance and equalopportunity.Theprogramhasnoticeablyreduced gender bias to mobile use, andparticipants have reported a heightened sense

of security by having access to this means ofcommunication.

With the additional budgetary support ofGuarantCo,Mobilinkintheprogram’s6thphasepartneredwithTheInstituteofSocialandPolicySciences(I-SAPS)andGuarantCofor‘SMS-basedAdultFemaleLiteracyProgram’,whichisenablinglearnerstoreceiveICTbasededucationincloseproximitytotheirhomes.Throughthisinitiative,Mobilink is educating around 4,050 women ineight rural districts of KPK, including Mardan,Swabi,Nowshera,Malakand,Haripur,Mansehra,KohatandBuner.

Since community mobilization was deemed acornerstone to make this initiative sustainable,‘Village Education Support Committees’ werecreated throughout the eight districts, whosemembersincluderespectedeldersandinfluentialindividuals. As a result, Mobilink with the helpof their implementing partners not only hadan all-out community support in identificationof teachers and learners in each of the 154villages,butalsomanagedtoestablish160easily-accessible Adult Literacy Centres, where adultfemalesof agesbetween15and35havebeenenrolledandimpartedbasicliteracyskills.

Mobilink’s Pink Ribbon Campaign 2015Pakistan has the highest rate of female breast cancer inAsia,as1outof9Pakistaniwomen islikelytosufferfrombreastcanceratsomepointintheirlives.Approximately90,000casesofbreastcancer are reported every year in Pakistan andabout40,000womendiefromthisdeadlyailment.Morethan90%womenhaveachanceofsurvivingbreast cancerwithearlydiagnosis; howeverduetolackofawarenessandmedicalfacilities,womenarediagnosedat later stageswhich is theprimereasonforthehighmortalityrate.

MobilinkhadbeenasupporterofthePinkRibbonCampaign for the past eight years. Mobilinkassistedthecampaignbycarryingoutanadvocacydrive which involved sending out informationalmessagestoitscustomerbase,nationwide.

On October 25, 2015, Minar-e-Pakistan was litup in rosy pink lights to symbolize support forthe Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and toshow solidarity topatientsandsurvivorsat theInternationalMammogramDay.This initiativebythePinkRibbonCampaignsupportedbyMobilinkwas inaccordancewith internationalsupportfor‘Pinktober’, which had seen famousmonumentssuch as the Empire State Building, the WhiteHouse, the Eiffel Tower and the Sydney OperaHousealsoturningpink.

Global Hand Washing Day (GHWD)According to the Pakistan Demographic andHealthSurveyconductedin2013,almost53,000children under five years of age die, because ofdiarrhea -adiseasewhich isdirectly linkedwithpoor quality water, sanitation and hygiene. Outofevery1000livebirthsalmost104childrendiebefore reaching theirfifthbirthday.Livescanbesavedby improvedwatersanitationandhygienefacilitiesandaccesstohealthservices.

Various studies and researches have provedthat the hand washing with soap can avert theincidenceofdiarrheaandpneumoniabyupto16%.MobilinkalsodisseminatedhygieneawarenessviainformationalTextMessagesnationwideandalsotookpart intheGHWDeventorganizedbyPlanInternationalPakistanincollaborationwithPunjabWaterAidandtheUNICEFonOctober15,2015.

devastatingearthquakeinOctober2005.

Mobilink Torchbearers hosted the activity forthe 60 residents of Safina Children Home atFatima Jinnah Park, where they took part inentertaining activities, games and sports. Mobilink Foundation launched its ‘Teach to Transform’ (T2T) program by conducting a 90 minutesmentorshipsessionatMasterAyub’sParkSchoollocatedatF-6,Islamabad.
