I CSR Initiatives I Initiatives for Diversity and Inclusion

“Diversity and collective strength” is one of Mizuho’s core values and is a guiding principle shared by all employees. Likewise, “encouraging all employees, regardless of gender, country of origin, cultural background or ideology to understand, respect and inspire each other” is regarded as a key facet of Mizuho’s “Human Resources Vision.” Going forward, we will take our conventional diversity activities to the next stage by “promoting diversity and inclusion,” to ensure the development and success of “diverse human resources.” By proactively adopting ideas and opinions from a diverse cross-section of our employee population to be utilized in management strategies, decision-making and daily business promotion, we will link this to innovation and new value creation while setting numerical targets and carrying out initiatives befitting our status as a diversity & inclusion frontrunner. Furthermore, we will promote innovative initiatives in order to raise employee participation awareness and desire for personal growth.

That is why we conduct special activities in each locality while taking the initiative to conduct activities which contribute to communities by collaborating with local governments, incorporated nonprofit organizations, etc.

At Mizuho Securities, we are formulating key policies and carrying out efforts, such as those below, to support the work-life balance of employees who are caregivers.

Support for Employees Caring for Children or other Family Members

At Mizuho, we have set numerical targets regarding the appointment of women. We offer women professional advancement by organizing training for younger females, mid-career women and also experienced employees to foster female managers.

Towards a Greater Role for Women in the Workplace

The Diversity & Inclusion Promotion Committee meets twice a year, attended by a chairman nominated by the President & CEO and also attended by senior executive members representing each division, who discuss policies and measures to promote diversity & inclusion to foster growth and promote the active involvement of all members of Mizuho's diverse workforce. Percentage of female employees in managerial positions*

In September 2015, based on the Revision of the “Act on Advancement of Measures to Support Raising Next-Generation Children,” Mizuho Securities received “Platinum Kurumin” Certification granted by the Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare to recognize the outstanding efforts of our employees with regard to child rearing.

Support System

Work-life balance handbook (for employee and supervisor use)

Seminars for expecting mothers and childcare leave

Working mothers network (Mama-Net)

Group workplace childcare centers

Intranet-based information on caregiving

Concierge desk for caregivers (free consultation counter)

Primarily to educate our youth and enhance their awareness of finance and economics, we conduct “active learning” classes (featuring hands-on group activities) adapted to the level and needs of each group of students.

● School Visits (for elementary, junior high and high school students)

We provide special courses covering the news or corporate matters for a wide range of university students, regardless of major. These courses target students who want to enhance their financial literacy, as well as touch on financial and economic systems they would like to better understand before becoming working adults.

● Financial Literacy & Career Education Courses

We conduct contract research for graduate schools of education, in order to train teachers and for them to put into practice what they learn, based on the idea that “it is necessary to support teachers to develop financial and economic education, as well as investment education in schools.”

● Teaching Staff Support

At Mizuho Securities, we have established “Mizuho Volunteer Day,” as a platform for undertaking activities which contribute to communities. Employees and their family members take part in volunteer activities throughout the year in each local community.

● Volunteer Activities

Since 2004, we have been offering pro bono courses at universities and graduate schools. We aim at educating human resources to serve as the cornerstones for the next generation by conducting professional and practical lectures based on the latest financial and capital market trends, while maintaining an awareness of the need for a “bridge between theory and practice.”

● Providing Courses Pro Bono

Activities that take into consideration the needs of local regions and society

For us, “contributing to local communities as a good corporate citizen” is an important social responsibility.

Mizuho Securities strives to create a corporate culture that encourages growth and active involvement of Mizuho's diverse workforce, by carrying out specific diversity promotion measures based on Committee decisions.

We have further enhanced management supervisory functions of the Board with the appointment of two outside directors who oversee the execution of operations from an independent standpoint.

Directors and Board of Directors

Mizuho Securities has an audit & supervisory system in place. It consists of four members of which two are outside auditors. The Audit & Supervisory Board receives reports, discusses and makes decisions on significant internal audit matters. Audit & Supervisory Board members attend Board of Directors meetings and other key meetings and attend business debriefings given by directors. They also conduct internal audits to verify the status of the company’s business and assets, and assess whether directors are executing their duties properly by referring to relevant documents and by participating in debriefings given by the Internal Audit Department, subsidiaries and independent auditors.

Audit & Supervisory Board Members

Mizuho Securities also has an executive officer system in place to ensure a clear separation between management supervisory and business execution functions while clarifying authority and responsibilities. TV advert for Mizuho Securities

A TV advert for Mizuho Securities was launched from November 2015, based on

the group’s concept “Being close to you. Being there for you.”Mizuho invited

three well-known Japanese actors, Tetsuji Tamayama, Ryohei Suzuki and Sota

Fukushi, to play leading roles in the advert entitled “It seems we can talk,” in

which they enter a Mizuho bank and are pleased to realize that the atmosphere

enables clients to say what they want to say.

Mizuho’s concept is to serve as a securities company with which clients feel

close to and at ease.

Our concept: “Being close to you. Being there for you.”

・ Being close to you: “Only one,” “The first one you call (The most trusted financial group)”
