Who We Are:Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS) is a private, nonprofit community service organization dedicated to helping individuals and families find new paths to self-reliance and brighter futures. What We Do:Each year, NVFS helps nearly 34,000 people through our continuum of programs in:• Anti-Hunger Programs• Early Childhood Services• Child Placement Services • Health & Mental Health Services• Legal Services• Housing Services• Intervention & Prevention Services• Workforce Development Services

Our Mission:To empower individuals and families to improve their quality of life, and to promote community cooperation and support in responding to family needs.

Our Guiding Principles:We believe that families are at the heart of our so-ciety and need to be strengthened and preserved. Ser-vices should be affordable, accessible and of high quality. All people should have access to adequate housing, health care, food and clothing. Com-munities should be supportive environments for families.

About Us:NVFS was founded in 1924 by volunteers in Alexandria who collected coats and coal to help their neighbors make it through the winter. Today, 350 employees and 4,119 volunteers support services in Arlington, Fairfax, and Loudoun Counties; Alexandria; and the Greater Prince William Area (including Manassas City and Manassas Park).

Welcome Whether your organization is taking its first steps toward getting involved in the community or you have an established community relations program, Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS) offers many ways for your business and its employees to engage in charitable activities.

In building our corporate partnerships, what we have found useful is to learn about your goals and then determine how they fit best with our needs. For some partners, marketing is key while others care most about team- building or boosting employee engagement. By strategically focusing on the value added for your business, we are able to suggest opportunities that may include sponsorships, volunteer projects, event participation, donation drives or a combination. We recognize that business goals can change based upon shifting priorities and we work hand-in-hand to meet your goals while meeting the needs of our programs and clients.

A unique aspect of NVFS is that because we offer such a wide spectrum of services, you can choose to support various programs or hone in on one and deepen your involvement in that area.

We often begin with these questions:• What are you looking for in a partnership?...• What are your goals?…• What has worked for you in other successful partnerships?

This brochure showcases how businesses engage with NVFS. We look forwarding to crafting a plan with your team to make a difference!

Recent Corporate Service Days at NVFSDiscoveryThe school year is not complete without a Field Day and thanks to the team at Discovery Communications our Head Start children were able to end the school year in style. Tricycle races, hula hoop competitions, a bub-ble station, a photo booth and more ensured that our little ones started summer with a bang!

DeloitteThirty NVFS staff members received a “Framework to Becoming a Successful Supervisor” training as part of Deloitte’s annual Impact Day. Deloitte senior managers taught supervision tech-niques, shared common challenges and solutions, and helped staff understand their own leadership styles. Additionally, a group of 60 Deloitte volunteers created commemorative scrap-books for children graduating from Head Start into kindergarten. The young graduates were presented with the keepsakes at their graduation ceremony the end of June.

Fannie MaeAt SERVE, as part of their annual Seven Days to Serve program, a team of 75 Fannie Mae volunteers painted base-boards and wainscoting in our Family Care Shelter, repainted fire lane curbs, moved the Healthy Families staff into a new office and built new, teal picnic tables to match the NVFS logo. In

addition, Fannie Mae’s HR department regularly supports the Training Futures workforce development program by providing email mentors, tutors and clothing closet dress days.

CARE Awards: Companies As Responsive Employers In 1992, NVFS joined forces with local companies to encourage family-friendly policies to help employees achieve a better work-life balance. The CARE Awards are a way to recognize companies whose progressive policies support employees and families, making our community a better place to live and work. Businesses who CARE have found a variety of benefits that contribute to their bottom line:

• Employee Engagement• Healthy Lifestyles• Recognition and Talent Development• Lower Attrition Rates• Flexible Work Arrangements• Improved Communications• High employee morale improves work production• Benchmark for corporate best practices• Strengthen family and community with family-friendly work policies

Companies covet the CARE Award because it gives them the opportunity to showcase to their colleagues the good things they have done to support their employees. Additionally, many business leaders believe that the recognition gives them an edge in hiring skilled and motivated workers. Many companies have discovered that the self-assessment, combined with the outside evaluation by the CARE team of experts, gives them valuable information about the strengths and weaknesses of their policies. Many past CARE Awards applicants report that the process of entering the competition was time well spent, regardless of whether they won an award.

The CARE Awards will be held Thursday, Nov. 5, 2015, 7:30 a.m., at the Falls Church Marriott Fairview Park. For more information, visit www.careawards.net, or contact Alyssa Lee at 571.748.2871 or [email protected].

Northern Virginia’s Business Community Rallies for a Cause The Road to Independence Gala provides a festive and elegant setting for supporters, community, political and business leaders to celebrate the impact of NVFS on families and children in need. It also recognizes the generous donors and supporters who are dedicated to giving back to the community in which they live and who make NVFS programs and services possible.

The Road to Independence Gala theme captures the nature of the event. Nearly 34,000 individuals and families come to us each year usually facing a critical life issue. Proceeds raised from the Gala help Northern Virginia Family Service support, advise, train, educate, and assist families in overcoming the obstacles to rejoining the road to independence, fulfillment and happiness.

Each year, more than 600 community leaders attend Northern Virginia Family Service’s largest fundraiser of the year. The evening includes dinner and a client testimonial, live and silent auctions, a live appeal, and recognition of the recipients of the Legends of Northern Virginia Award and Community Champion Award.

Businesses can support the Gala with tax-deductible sponsorships, and by donating goods, products, memorabilia or services for our successful auctions. The event is filled with leaders from the business community, political representatives, and donors who know how to make a difference.

For more information about the Road to Independence Gala, visit www.nvfs.org/gala or contact Tonya McCreary, Director of Agency Communications, at 571.748.2533.
