Message from our CEO

Every day, 53 Albertans hear the words, “you have cancer.” These are our families, our friends, our neighbours. The Alberta Cancer Foundation is proud to support these Albertans — no matter what

type of cancer they have, or where they live in the province.

We directly support all 17 Alberta Health Services cancer centres, including the Cross Cancer Institute, the Tom Baker Cancer Centre

and the new Calgary Cancer Centre coming in 2023. Our donors and supporters enable programs that have a clear line of sight to

cancer patient outcomes.

Albertans helping Albertans.

PEOPLE – To those words heard by 53 Albertans a day, we oer three in return: we will help. No matter what type of cancer an Albertan is facing or where they live in the province. Early screening. Personal and financial comfort. Patient navigation help. Cutting-edge, impactful research. Improved treatment and care.

COMMUNITIES – Your support directly helps patients and enables research taking place nearest you and cancer centres across the province. From Lethbridge to Peace River. Grande Prairie to Fort McMurray. We will help.

PARTNERS – As well as our meaningful relationships with Universities in Alberta and fellow fundraising organizations, we are an ocial fundraising partner for Alberta Health Services and partner directly with CancerControl Alberta. Through this partnership, donors like you are able to make the most significant impact with a direct line of sight to patients.

We collaborate. We understand that collaboration speeds progress. We bring together donors, patients, health-care providers and researchers to unlock solutions that alone, would be unthinkable.

We would love to collaborate with you, too. Corporate partnerships enable the Foundation to continue to meet the growing demand for many of the programs and initiatives we support, such as the Patient Financial Assistance Program or Patient Navigation Program. Partnerships also help to bolster the crucial research taking place right here at home, including immunotherapy projects, clinical trials and long-term studies that investigate why some people get cancer and others don’t.

A strategic partnership can help boost your employee engagement and demonstrate your brand’s purpose. From fundraising events in your workplace to matching gift programs. From team volunteer activities to high profile sponsorship opportunities — all of our partners are supported by a passionate corporate giving team here at the Foundation who are experts in delivering mutually beneficial partnerships that provide shared value and impact.

Together, we can power progress in cancer detection, treatment and care. Albertans helping Albertans.

- WENDY BEAUCHESNECEO, Alberta Cancer Foundation

Our purpose is to create more moments for Albertans facing cancer by inspiring our community to give to innovation in detection, treatment, and care. We do so by focusing our investments on diagnosing cancer earlier, treating cancer more effectively, improving the quality of life for all Albertans facing cancer and reducing cancer risk.

Cancer Journey All types, every step

Enterprise Holdings

The Alberta Cancer Foundation is grateful to the dedicated employees of Enterprise Holdings for choosing to spend their time and resources to help Albertans facing cancer. Employees across the province have stepped up to help in volunteer roles for a variety of community events, fundraising initiatives and donor stewardship activities. In addition, Enterprise Holdings Foundation donated $10,000 to the Alberta Cancer Foundation in 2019 bringing their total funds raised to $40,000 over the years of our partnership.

Doull Site Assessments

“Everybody in our organization has been aected by cancer in one way or another, so we wanted to do something long-standing,” says Doull. “We do a lot of work in Alberta, so we felt like this program was the best fit.”

...The Albertans Helping Albertans program isn’t aliated with funding one specific tumour group, but instead, supports all types of cancer in areas of greatest need. This immediately piqued the interest of both (Ryan) Doull and the president of Capstone, Dwight Bulloch, because they wanted to support cancer funding but didn’t want to narrow their focus to one form.

...

Doull Site Assessments and Capstone have committed to donating a portion of proceeds from every job they complete to the program. While DSA and Capstone have chosen this donation route as a corporate partner, other individuals and companies are also able to contribute to the Albertans Helping Albertans initiative. Other donors are free to choose how they would like to raise money for the cause, including hosting fundraising events such as bake sales or charity runs...

“I think this shows that Albertans, both corporately and individually, can contribute with their daily activities without even realizing that it’s making a dierence,” he says. “Then, at the end of the day, you can see that you’ve had a positive eect on thousands of people. That’s something to be proud of.”

Paving the WayOur friends at PCL Construction inc. are long-time supporters of the Alberta Cancer Foundation

A LEAP Magazine article by Jennifer Friesen

For more than 30 years, Calgary’s Tom Baker Cancer Centre has been providing excellent care for patients, but as the city grows, the centre has begun to run short on space to meet the needs of the growing population.

Over those same three decades, PCL has supported the Alberta Cancer Foundation as donors, sponsors and participants in events - all in the hopes of helping Albertans facing cancer. Now, the company has been awarded the chance to use its expertise to design and build Calgary’s cancer centre....

As well as helping to improve the lives of cancer patients through the design and construction of the Calgary Cancer Centre, PCL’s offices in Calgary and Edmonton have provided sponsorships, donations, and support to the Alberta Cancer Foundation for the Tom Baker Cancer Centre and the Cross Cancer Institute through various events, including Edmonton’s Bust A Move and the Tom Baker Cancer Centre Golf Classic. This year, PCL will be sponsoring the Alberta Cancer Foundation Golf Classic and is part of team “Building Hope” in the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer.

“The odds of getting cancer in your life are now almost one in two,” Toby Hendrie says. “It makes an impact wherever you live. Here in southern Alberta, we want to know that we’re doing our part to give back.”

Alberta Cancer FoundationGolf Classic

In the interest of the safety of our participants, donors and sponsors, the Alberta Cancer Foundation has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Alberta Cancer Foundation Golf Classic.

Since its inception, the ACF Golf Classic has raised over $830,000 forthe Patient Financial Assistance Program. Cancer can be a huge strain on finances. The costs can be so overwhelming that some patients will decide against having life-saving therapy and instead choose a lesser treatment when they cannot afford the out-of-pocket expenses for items such as medications, medical supplies, transportation, accommodations and child care. Last year, the Patient Financial Assistance Program was accessed more than 4,933 times by over 926 families across Alberta. We know, in our current situation, this number will increase significantly.

Despite the fact that we are not able to come together in person at this year’s event, we can still continue this incredible work in the community. We invite you to participate in our virtual golf initiative – Albertans Helping Albertans Putting Fore A Purpose.

Grab a group of friends, have some fun at a course of your choosing and dedicate your round of golf to supporting Albertans facing cancer by making a donation to the Patient Financial Assistance Program.

We hope to see you at the 2021 Alberta Cancer Foundation Golf Classic, next August!

From north to south, east to west, Albertans have one thing in common - a love for their province, their people and their communities. Known for our friendliness, resilience, generosity and good citizenship, Albertans have a lot to be proud of.

The Alberta Cancer Foundation is thrilled to announce a new signature event, Big Blue Sky Gala - an event that celebrates all things Albertan, while providing support to our friends, family and neighbours facing cancer in our province.

This inaugural event taking place in both Calgary and Edmonton will celebrate Alberta’s land, history, and people in everything from music, art, sport and cuisine. From its rich landscapes and diverse population, golden grain fields and clear blue skies, Alberta is a beautiful place and we can’t wait to showcase all it has to oer and all we can accomplish, together.
