Request and Response:

1. How much council staff can claim per mile for using their vehicle? Please provide the rate for each of the financial years; 2008-9, 2009-10, 2010-11. If applicable please break this down by type of user or use, and please provide the rates for different types of transportation.

2. Please also provide the different rates if a threshold exists, for example, if the rates are different for the first 10,000 miles and thereafter.

The Council has numerous travel rates which largely reflect historic agreements that pre-date the creation of Cornwall Council on 1 April 2009. For the majority of Council staff the allowances are those set out in the Inland Revenue Scheme which is 40p a mile for the first 10,000 miles and 25p a mile thereafter. Following negotiations with the trade unions a new mileage allowance will be implemented for the majority of staff from 1 April which will be 40p a mile for the first 3000 miles and 20p a mile thereafter.

The various mileage allowances payable for the years identified in your question are set out below:
