Choice of Technology
Study of different technologies 1. Turbine (volume)
2. Ultrasonic (volume)
3. Coriolis (Mass)
Choice of technology Coriolis – Mass flow
• Easy installation, start-up and no moving parts
• Direct Mass and Density (quality) measurement
• Energy value direct from mass
• Lower risks of measurement uncertainty
• Lower OPEX compared to volume flow technologies
Criteria for supplier choice • Micro Motion give the end customer experiences of earlier solutions
• Micro Motion give the best accuracy measurement
• Micro Motion give the best Smart Diagnostic from the meters
• Micro Motion give Smart Meter Verification - Self Checking Features at -200 degC

Coriolis Technology - Design
Process fluid/gas enters the
sensor and is split with half
the flow in each tube
Drive Coil

Multi Variable Digital (MVD)
Dramatically reduce signal noise and obtain faster response time
Measure multiple variables for accurate process control
Identify and resolve problems easily with built-in smart diagnostics
MVD Technology enables higher meter stability and the flat-spec.

Coriolis Metering in LNG Transportation
Agenda

– LNG Dispensing Made Easy
– Summary
[File Name or Event] Emerson Confidential 27-Jun-01, Slide 28
LNG Dispensing Made Easy LNG as cryogenic liquid is difficult to measure accurately with a system other than a mass flow meter. Traditional flow technologies cannot measure two-phase flow and also require separate density and temperature measurements. Micro Motion has solved these challenges with a Coriolis meter capable of:
Two-phase flow measurement
Direct Mass measurement
Multivariable (MF, VF, D, T)
No leak points
Real-time data
Safe …. No maintenance required

Advantages of Coriolis “Elite” meter
MODBUS Direct connection
• Drive gain
• Slug Flow
• Density
• Temperature
• Mass Flow
• Volume flow
Pump Start
Fluid Status
Traditional technology
or other Coriolis
• Analog Hz or 4-20mA
• No fluid status can be identified
• MODBUS to be more time developed

Operation Interface and Control Panel
Starting refuel:
After short circulation, the dispenser control system will determine if to starting fueling
against 3 conditions together :
1. Density
2. Temperature
3. Drive gain

Filling Process 1. Truck arrives
2. Driver connect the flexible(s)
3. Log on the payment system the station “wakes up” and cools down (pump and/or flowmeter). Depending in which state the station is.
4. The system controls the “drive gain” is confirming the cooling down
5. When the station is “ready” the light goes green and the operator can push “start” button
6. The system control the truck’s tank pressure and decide if a vent is required or not according to the residual pressure un the tank
7. When the tank pressure is in the required range, vent step stops and filling start
8. Counting is stating for the commercial transaction
9. Stop flow
10. Disconnection, filling complete

Success in MID LNG Dispensing
[File Name or Event] Emerson Confidential 27-Jun-01, Slide 33
What is OIML and MID?
A set of Measuring System requirements to guarantee:
You get what you are paying for and you can prove it
You deliver what you are being paid for and you can prove it
OIML is the global standard and MID is European Directive.
NMi and Emerson cooperated (with system-owners) to achieve fulfillment of MID (and OIML) for Legal applications.

Custody Transfer: Uncertainty = Income / cost
The possibility of quantity claims is an unacceptable liability for companies that can damage their reputation and can tie them up in legal disputes
