LIKE LOCAL HISTORY? Like talking about it or showing it toothers? If so, Hadley Luzerne Historical Society is looking forYOU! Help us keep the museum and schoolhouse open this sum-mer by being a volunteer guide. Please leave your name andnumber with Rosemary 696-3143.
The Hadley-Luzerne Central School District is deeply sad-dened by the sudden and tragic loss of Hunter Scofield. Hunteris mourned by parents William and Linda Scofield of LakeLuzerne as well as brother, William and extended family. We extend our deepest sympathies to Hunterʼs family and to all
of those impacted by Hunterʼs passing. Hunter was an excep-tional member of our school community and his loss is deeplyfelt.
Hunter, a rising junior, at Hadley-Luzerne High School, had al-ready begun to make his mark on the school community. A mem-ber of the National Honor Society, the soccer and basketballteams, Hunter was also expected to be among the first Hadley-Luzerne students to compete on the WarEagle (LakeGeorge/Hadley-Luzerne) Football team this fall. Hunter washighly regarded by faculty, staff and students as a student with abright mind, interminable kindness for others and unlimited po-tential. He will be missed. The sudden passing of a student shakes the school community
to its core. Counselors and support staff will be available at thehigh school from 8:30 am-12:30 PM on 7-7-14 through 7-11-14to support students who wish to come together and express theirgrief at the loss of their classmate. Arrangements to honorHunterʼs life are incomplete at the time of this release; however,as they are developed, will be shared.
We thank the broader community for its many expressions ofsympathy and offers of assistance and ask that Hunter and hisfamily be kept in their thoughts and prayers in the difficult timeahead.

Mettawee River Theater Company Puppets return to Little The-ater on the Farm on Thursday, July 10 at 8pm with their summerproduction “The Dancing Fox: Wisdom Tales of the Middle East”.“The Dancing Fox: a reprise of a 2003 Mettawee production, isgathered from the shared folk traditions of Jews and Arabs, in-cluding the writings of Sufi mystics, along with fables and folkloreof the region. In these tales we encounter some clever foxes,dim-witted fish, a vengeful snake and other colorful creatures, aswell as a number of wise and foolish humans. New perspectivesemerge from the comic twists and tragic turns of their adventures.A variety of masks, puppets and giant figures will be used to fleshout the particular realm of each tale. Under the Artistic Direction of mask maker, designer and directorRalph Lee, the Mettawee River Theatre Company, founded in1975, creates original theater productions that incorporatemasks, giant figures, puppets and other visual elements with livemusic, movement and text, drawing on myths, legends and folk-lore of the worldʼs many cultures for its material. The company iscommitted to bringing theater to people who may have little or noaccess to live professional performances. Little Theater on the Farm is located at 27 Plum Road, Fort Ed-ward. Admission is free, but donations to the Mettawee RiverTheater Company at the event are greatly appreciated. EastRiver Ensemble at The SembrichTraditional Music from China
BOLTON LANDING, NY — The Sembrich's World MusicWednesdays kick off at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 16th, witha program of traditional music from China presented by the Eas-tRiver Ensemble. The performance is preceded by a workshopfor children at 11 a.m. Tickets for the concert are $10. The work-shop is free. The EastRiver Ensemble is a collective of top-notched musiciansfrom north China, based out of New York City's Chinatown, uniquely led by the yangqin, a Chinese version of the hammereddulcimer."The group started as a loose gravitation of musicians," saysJulie Tay, founder of the EastRiver Ensemble. "We had to answerto the call of the community in New York, especially around thetime of the Chinese New Year, but throughout the year as well, for people who want traditional Chinese music as a part of a so-cial occasion."Repertoire for the Wednesday afternoon concert includes Chi-nese folk songs from the 50's, 60's and 70's, including some fromMao's cultural revolution era (1966-1975), impromptu "recall" oftraditional music from oral traditions going as far back as the Tangdynasty, as well as the EastRiver's own eclectic renderings of"anything that comes to mind.""Nature plays an integral role in much of the music that EastRiverperforms," says Sembrich artistic director Richard Wargo. "We'repleased to welcome these fine musicians to Bolton to performagainst the backdrop of our own beautiful lake." "When we began performing more formal concerts, such as theone at The Sembrich, we realized that we needed to be intro-duced with a name," observes Tay. "We chose EastRiver Ensem-ble, because we represent the East, but it's a name that's alsovery local, since we do have an East River right where we live inNew York City."While World Music Wednesdays, sponsored by AdirondackBrewery, represents a departure from this season's World War I-themed programming at The Sembrich, each of the events in theseries alludes back to the "Summer of Destiny" theme."This performance of traditional music by the EastRiver Ensem-ble is a way for us to pay homage to the momentous night of July31st, 1914," notes Wargo. "An elaborate Chinese-themed cos-tume ball, complete with fireworks and a fire-breathing dragon, had been planned in celebration of Ignacy Paderewski's name-day party. But the occasion was interrupted by the outset of war."This event is made possible, in part, with public funds from theNew York State Council on the Arts Decentralization Program, administered locally by the Lower Adirondack Regional ArtsCouncil.World Music Wednesdays continue this summer with ZlatneUste: Balkan Brass Band on Wednesday, August 6, at 1:30 p.m.and Jerry O'Sullivan and Friends on Wednesday, August 27, at1:30 p.m.The Sembrich Museum, located at 4800 Lakeshore Drive inBolton Landing, New York, is open daily from 10 a.m. to 12:30p.m. and 2 to 5 p.m. For more information, visit www.thesem-brich.org or call (518) 644-2431.

2014 Annual Report of the Village of CorinthTo the Village of Corinth I submit the following report.Your Board: Deputy Mayor Timothy Halliday, Melanie Denno, Mitch Saunders, and Julius Enekes;Clerk-Treasurer Nicole Colson, DPW Superintendent Arthur Lozier III, Fire Dept. Chief Andy Kelleyand Building Inspector/ Code Enforcement Officer Greg Berg, have worked diligently, with me toprovide you, the residents of the Village of Corinth, with the best quality of services as economicallyas possible this past fiscal year. Clerk –Treasurer Colson, acting as Budget Officer, the membersof the Board and the Department heads worked long and hard on this yearʼs 2014-2015 Budget.Working together we were able to provide a better level of services at no increase in the tax ratefor this coming year.We continue to plan for the challenge presented by the Villageʼs aging infrastructure and 40 yearold waste water treatment plant. Much thanks to our very knowledgeable operators who have beenable to keep it running and meeting state standards. Using a DEC Pre-Planning Grant we havehired Chazen Engineering to determine the best and most efficient way to update our Waste WaterSystem. We are very pleased with the completion of the dam and reservoir property and the beautiful bridgeacross the spillway on the upper reservoir. If you have not had the opportunity to visit this site, please consider making the trip to this beautiful portion of Village property, it is a great place totake a walk, picnic, fish or hunt.Other projects completed this year include, but are not limited to:• The entire Village Code is available on the Village website www.villageofcorinthny.com• Paris Avenue was rehabilitated with new water and sewer mains, curbing and sidewalks• The water storage tank was refurbished• A new electrical service was installed at Pagenstecher Park• A new concrete entrance pad was installed at the Firemenʼs Dock• Sidewalks throughout the Village were replaced as needed and crosswalk striping applied• Daily maintenance of all Village buildings and grounds is ongoingShared Services projects include:• Installation of outdoor classroom at Corinth Elementary School• Paving projects with Town of Corinth, Greenfield, Day and Hadley• Assistance with new Saratoga County Sheriffʼs shooting rangeProjects currently in progress include:• The water filtration plant mandated by the NYS Health Department should be completed in July • The complete rebuild of Walnut Street, including new water & sewer lines, is underway • Laberge Engineering is currently working on plans for the rehabilitation of Pine Street• The Village is working with developers interested in building a low-to moderate income seniorliving complex on the former Firemanʼs field• We have contracted with U.S. Light Energy for solar power at the Fire House which will potentiallysave over $110,000 in electrical costs over the next 20 years • We are in conversation with National Grid to bring natural gas to the village for residential andcommercial use• We are in the process of updating our Comprehensive planAs always, the Villageʼs greatest asset is our staff. DPW Superintendent Lozier, Assistant DPWSuperintendent Cliff Jensen, 8 DPW employees, WWTP Head Operator Clayton Laubach and 2assistant operators have worked day and night in all kinds of weather and through a difficult winterto ensure proper operation of the Villageʼs infrastructure. They should be commended for the re-markable job they do for our community. The fiscal condition of the Village of Corinth continues to improve each year. The NYS Comptrollerhas indicated the Village is not designated as a community under fiscal stress. Standard & Poorʼshas upgraded the Villageʼs bond rating from “A” to “A+” this past year and affirmed a stable financialoutlook, allowing the Village to bond future projects with a lower interest rate. The dedication ofClerk- Treasurer/Budget Officer Nicole Colson and Deputy Clerk-Treasurer Alice Lissow is to becommended. We appreciate their efforts to keep the Village running smoothly and their excellentservice to our residents.Town Supervisor, Dick Lucia and I have been meeting regularly to find ways we can work togetherto provide both Town and Village residents with services while saving money. Both Town and VillageDPW departments have been very effective in working together to complete projects without havingto bring in expensive outside contractors and work force. This saves residents money and keepsthe money we do spend local. I thank Supervisor Lucia for his willingness to work together and hisdedication to making all of Corinth a better place to live. Finally, I would like to thank our Volunteer Firefighters and members of our Jessupʼs Landing EMSfor being there 24-7. AHI NAVIGATORS HELP NEARLY 2,000 INDIVIDUALS OBTAIN HEALTH INSURANCEDURING INITIAL OPEN ENROLLMENT PERIOD
Help Still Available Year-Round in Many Cases [Queensbury, NY] – Adirondack Health Institute (AHI) helped 1,982 individuals and families in sevenAdirondack-region counties obtain health insurance coverage through the NY State of Health Mar-ketplace during the Affordable Care Actʼs initial six-month open enrollment period. “Itʼs been extremely gratifying for our team to help so many people enroll in low-cost health insur-ance,” said Joyce Porter, AHIʼs Enrollment Assistance Services and Education (EASE) DepartmentManager. “Itʼs especially pleasing since many of those individuals & families are covered for thefirst time in their lives.” Porter stated that many people who missed the open enrollment deadline might not be aware thatthey still may be able to get coverage. “Even though open enrollment for qualified health planswonʼt begin again until Nov. 15th, people may still enroll year-round if they have experienced aqualifying life event such as the loss of a job or the birth of a child.” said Porter. That person has 60days from the time of that event to notify the Marketplace and enroll in a health insurance plan.”She shared that a complete list of qualifying life events is available on the AHI Web site atwww.adirondackhealthinstitute.org/news. “And,” Porter added, “People who qualify for such pro-grams as Medicaid or Child Health Plus can enroll at any time” With grant funding from the Community Service Society of New York (CSS), Certified Navigatorsin AHIʼs EASE Department offer free, in-person health insurance enrollment assistance services inClinton, Essex, Franklin, Hamilton, Warren, Washington & Northern Saratoga counties. Individualsmay call AHIʼs toll-free number, 1-866-872-3740, to schedule an appointment with a Navigator. Atthe appointment, the Navigator will help determine if the individual is eligible for Medicaid or ChildHealth Plus, and also ascertain if said person is eligible for tax credits to defray monthly premiumcosts and/or cost sharing reductions to defray the cost of out-of-pocket expenses. Vegas
Jazz
Vegas is a 7-year old Boxer/Hound mix who is very sweet, very gentle, thoughtful, and well behaved. Because he loves being
around people, he wants to be wherever you are. Vegas is a big snugger and a little bit of a goof ball. He has perfect potty habits; he always waits until we take him outside to “go”. We are working
on introducing Vegas to other dogs. It would better for him to go to a home with older kids. Like all HOPE dogs, Vegas is neutered, up to
date on his shots, and micro-chipped.
Check out Fiona’s “Bette Davis Eyes” - a truly stunning 8 month old girl with bunny-soft fur. Fiona’s favorite thing is “window shopping” for birds and squirrels. When’s she’s not stalking the wildlife from behind glass she is typically napping (yes, in the window and probably dreaming of squirrel soup). Fiona is very
independent - happy to hang out on her own during the day she just wants a little bit of attention morning and night - except if you’ve got out the interactive toys which she absolutely goes
crazy for! Fiona would do best if she is adopted by a family with a quiet home and would do great with a kitty companion (and a window sill). Because she was born wild she is cautious to accept new humans into her personal space and will need a loving new family willing to earn her trust— the rewards once you win her over are great — a massive purr, bedtime sleeping companion and lots and lots of leg rubs. Fiona has lived with other cats
and dogs. If you have a busy life or work long hours this low-maintenance lady might be just the beautiful face to welcome you home each day. Fiona has been spayed, is up to date on all
her shots and tested negative for Feline Leukemia and FIV.
Fiona
Jazz is a senior male Labrador Retriever / Rottweiler mix. He is very sociable and loves to greet everyone on his outings. Jazz is good with cats and dogs. He has never met a tennis ball he didn’t
like and LOVES to swim, even leaving his beloved tennis balls behind for a chance to play in water. Jazz seems to be very good with
children, but as he has never lived with children, he would probably do better with older kids. Jazz is vaccinated, neutered and micro-
citizen (age 65 or above) may adopt a HOPE pet 7 years of age or older free of charge.

• An estimated 4.7 million dogbites occur in the U.S. eachyear.• Nearly 800,000 of those bitesrequire medical care.• The insurance industry paysmore than $1 billion in dog-biteclaims each year.Fortunately, there are stepsthat parents can take to re-duce the risk of problemswhen children and dogs inter-act.The first is to educate theirchildren and supervise themwhen they are around dogs.Studies have found that theNo. 1 dog-bite preventionmeasure is education. Chil-dren who understand how toact around dogs, how to playwith dogs, when to leave dogsalone and how to properlymeet a dog are much lesslikely to be bitten.
What can parents do?To help parents supervise theirchildren when around dogs, here are some safe rules ofbehavior for kids, suggestedby the Accident Attorneys Or-ganization:• Donʼt treat a dog unkindly.• Never hit, kick, slap or bite adog or pull on his ears, tail orpaws.• Donʼt bother a dog when sheis busy.• Never bother dogs with pup-pies or dogs that are playingwith or guarding toys, eating orsleeping. Always leave servicedogs alone while they areworking.• Donʼt approach a dog youdonʼt know.• Never approach a dog that istied up, behind a fence or in acar.Always make slow move-ments, set things down care-fully and donʼt run when youʼrearound dogs, as this gets themexcited and they may acci-dently hurt you.
What can dog owners do?Here are some tips for dogowners that can help to reducethe risk of problems:• Supervise your dog.Dogs left on their own may feeluncertain and defensive, oreven overly confident, and thisposes risks to your dog, aswell as to other people anddogs.
The Accident Attorneys Organ-ization has created a down-loadable safety guide for dogowners and parents. It also ex-plains the laws governing dogbites. For a copy, visit www.ac-cidentattorneys.org.
