Transcript of Corey Keith's Bio as of January 2013
Hello, My name is Corey!
I use the “per” pronoun. Short for person. Please feel free to ask me
any questions regarding this as I am quite open.
I grew up in the Stettler, Alberta area, including on my Grandfathers farm.
I soon moved to Red Deer where I received my social work diploma, which I received in 2006.
During this time, I was involved in the creation of the first sexual and gender minority support organization - Central Alberta Rainbow Youth (C.A.R.Y.).
During this time we created a lot of firsts for sexual and gender minorities.
Although the media needs to learn to use more inclusive language.
C.A.R.Y. ran for three years and had over 22 youth. We also provided queer workshops and training.
The above picture is of me recreated by a youth of mine
from this group…..one of those moments when you know you
had an effect.
A year latter I went to Nicola Valley Institute of Technology (NVIT) in Merritt where I received my Bach. of Social Work in 2009. During this time I was also president of the student council and continued providing workshops and support groups where I could.
This is many of the elders, students and instructors gathered to watch the Obama Inauguration inside NVIT.
I then moved to the big city of Vancouver to receive my practicum at Qmunity, the Queer
Resource Center. I was then hired to facilitate the Trans Social Support Group in Partnership with
Trans Health.
Moving to Vancouver was one
of the scariest things I had to do.
I soon went back to school at Rhodes Wellness
College, where I received my Professional
Counseling Diploma in 2011.
This was an amazing experience for me as it
was experiential and holistic. This included facilitating groups and
processing our own stuff on an ongoing basis….Yes,
it was quite intense at times.
Although I believed this before, Rhodes was the place where I fell in-love with the idea that
education was the greatest tool to fight oppression and injustice (unfortunately, all to
often it perpetuates it).
Spectra
During this time I also started my own practice – Spectra. Where I provided counseling , workshops and consulting in regards to sexual and gender minorities.
I also was one of the key coordinators of the Vancouver Trans Forum and Trans Pride March. This was a mini conference for Trans folks, allies and practitioners.

Presently I am living in Kamloops and getting my Masters of Education. The plan is to be graduating early of 2015.
I recently was hired as a sessional to teach the 4th year social work course on Sexual and Gender Diversity. Presently I am Host of the TRU Radio Show on CFBX called the Sacred Sexual. I have also been rehired for the third time to teach an online course to the Alberta Society for the Promotion of Sexual Health on Trans Awareness Training for Professionals. Society for the promotion of Sexual Health
That’s me, talking away on the Radio. My radio blog:

I enjoy being in nature, meditation, facilitating groups and activism.
My goals are two fold:
1) To teach at a post secondary institution sexuality to professionals, so they have the tools to appropriately and confidently support those they serve, to all helping professionals.
2) The process of rebuilding and changing my practice to focus more on sexual wellness (broad sense of sexuality). The new name of my practice will be called the Sacred Connections. In this case, I hope to do both video marketing and online courses.
My hope for this course is to learn as much skills as possible to benefit any course I am facilitating, whetheronline or not. Also too video market myself, do video blogs and have online course.
Thank you, I look forward to connecting to you all during this
course. You can contact me [email protected].
