Newsletter August 2014 Cordillera Valley Club Property Owners Association Cordillera Valley Club POA The 2014 Annual Meeting of the CVC Property Owners Asso- ciation was held on Thursday, July 3rd at 3:00PM in the Fire- place Room of the CVC Clubhouse. It was well-attended with about 50 homeowners in attendance (representing 22 different members). In addition, 13 proxies were returned, so a quorum was easily achieved. The membership received two special presentations: one from Alison Perry of Cordillera Metro District and one from Eric Lovgren of Eagle County Community Development’s Wildfire Mitigation Team. Alison discussed the joint marketing efforts of the Club at Cordillera together with Cordillera Metro Dis- trict (and with participation from CVC POA) to more effective- ly position Cordillera and market the Cordillera “brand.” The marketing team has created the websites cordilleraliving.com (which is more focused on the lifestyle that Cordillera affords) and cordillercommunity.com (which is more focused on real estate). Other efforts include social media marketing through a large number of sites, print advertising, public relations and video productions. Eric Lovgren then addressed the membership regarding the ever-present dangers of wildfires. Eric explained that being a prepared homeowner means that a plan for evacuation is in place, that a safe, defensible space around each residence is maintained and that certain types of construction materials can reduce the risk or event prevent a wildfire from destroying a home. News from CVC Metropolitan District

Cordillera Valley Metropolitan District appoints two new board members The CVC Metro Board would like to thank Barry Gassman and Chris Hynes for their time and contribution to the Commu-nity while serving on the Cordillera Valley Club Metropoli-tan District Board. Both have moved out of Cordillera Valley Club, creating two openings on the Board. Three equally well qualified residents have expressed an interest in serving on the Board and so the current Board (Emilie Egan, John O’Brien and Rick Pirog) decided to fill these vacancies in the order the candidates came forward and appointed Tom Jaffe and Paul Wible to serve until the May 2016 election. cont. >de

Dan McNeill presented the financial reports and 2014 Operat-ing Budget to the membership, highlighting the fact that Net Income last year was $244,430.70, primarily due to RETA In-come of $204,100. Savings of about $42,777 in operating ex-penses were also garnered last year. Dan explained that capi-tal reserves are currently being spent on garden / monument bed upgrades, a long term landscaping master plan, restora-tion of the old water tank road and revegetation around the new water tank. Phase I of the Recreational Trail was com-pleted last year; Phase II is pending for construction this year.

Bob Engleby and Kent Myers were re-elected to the Board of Directors. The Annual Meeting lasted about two hours with lively discussion from the homeowners present.

Design Review Board Update

The CVC Design Review Board has been busy in 2014! There are 3 homes under construction right now, and a couple more are expected to begin construction before the summer ends. The DRB is a volunteer board, consisting of 5 members. We are lucky to have Ric Fields, a local landscape architect and owner of Fieldscapes, join the CVC DRB this summer. The other members are CVC residents Ted Leach, David Adkins, and Steve McKeever, along with our non-resident architectur-al consultant, Michael Current of Current Architects. Please contact Dominic or Allison if you have any questions about the types of changes that require a DRB application at Cordillera Valley Club.

The Board further agreed to appoint Steve McKeever to serve on the Board if and when the next Board seat becomes available. All CVCMD Board meetings are open to the public. The meet-ing schedule is listed on the website below and all meeting are posted at the main gatehouse, the Club at Cordillera, and the west gate. Cordillera Valley Club is a gated community and part of the “greater Cordillera community” locat-ed in Eagle County, Colorado, nestled in the heart of the Vail Valley. Governance for the Cordillera Valley Club is provided by the Cordillera Valley Club Property Owners Association (CVCPOA) and by Cordillera Valley Club Metropolitan District (CVCMD).

Cordillera Valley Club Design Review BoardThe CVCPOA also operates the Cordillera Valley Club Design Review Board, which reviews plans for all new construction and exterior property modifications. Cordillera Valley Club Metropolitan District The primary function of the CVCMD is to provide a community “public works department” which oversees the community’s roads and infrastruc-ture as well as shares responsibility for public safety with the CVCPOA.

All residents are reminded that under-age use of golf carts is prohibited in the Valley Club. Here is an excerpt from the Rules Regarding Unlicensed Vehicle Usage:

Golf carts are prohibited on all roads within Cordillera Valley Club except when operated by licensed drivers in compliance with all applicable rules relating to the op-eration of motor vehicles on public roads in the State of Colorado. Off road vehicles, including without limitation all terrain vehicles, trail bikes and other motor propelled vehicles which are not registered with the State of Colo-rado as motor vehicles for operation of public highways, are prohibited on all Association property except when used by licensed drivers on the roads and then only when operated on the shortest and most direct route from the licensed driver’s residence to the national for-est access and back again and in compliance with all ap-plicable rules relating to the operation of motor vehicles on public roads in the State of Colorado

Bears have been very active this summer in and around the Valley Club. Property owners are reminded that the num-ber one cause of encounters with bears continues to be the pursuit of human garbage and food. The following reminders may help minimize these encounters.

Bird feeders, hummingbird feeders and feeding pets out-doors are prohibited. Bears will go to great lengths to access bird feeders. Note that feeding of all wildlife is prohibited by Cordillera and Colorado Division of Wildlife. Do not store food or garbage in vehicles. Bears do break into vehicles to access food and the result is not good!

Lower level windows and doors should be kept closed and secured, especially while cooking and baking. Doors with le-ver style handles should be dead bolted. Bears have walked into many homes using lever door handles.

Garbage must be stored in bear resistant containers inside of garages. No trash containers are allowed outdoors. Garbage may be at the street the day of pick up from 7 am to 7 pm. All trash and garbage must be inside of the containers and the lids must be completely closed.

Bears showing interest in your property should be discour-aged. Make loud noises and throw water or rocks. Public Safety uses air horns. You may also contact Public Safety who can use rubber buckshot to scare away bears.

Get Ready! Create a 100 foot safety zone around your home.

Clear flammable materials from rain gutters and roof.

Trim tree branches at least 10 feet from roof.

Replace flammable vegetation with less flammable plants.

Use fire resistant materials for roofing and siding.

Move wood piles away from your home.
