When Bill Brogan first visited Coral Bay in 1973, it was a dot on the map, home to a handful of people and one of the world’s best-kept secrets.

It also happened to be adjacent to one of the world’s greatest natural wonders, the 260 kilometre long Ningaloo Reef.

While recognising its potential as a holiday destination, he was also aware of its shortcomings - poor access, a shortage of water (in an area that

receives only 100mm of rainfall a year), no reliable electricity supply or sewerage system, and little protection from the elements.

Bill Brogan, however, had a vision. It began when he purchased

a four-room transportable building, a 37 foot charter boat, and a

glass bottomed boat, the Miss Coral Bay I. This was the start of a

remarkable enterprise.s.

Australia’s North-West coast. From two units in 1978, Bayview Coral Bay has developed into a complex that, when the “Full” sign

goes out, can accommodate up to 1,200 people in anything from a four bedroom house to a tent or backpackers’ dorm.

Along the way, the Brogan family - who still operate the resort - has installed the generators that provide electricity for the Coral Bay

community, sunk bores to provide its water, built the shopping centre, residents’ housing and sewerage system, and run charter and

glass bottomed boat tours.

You can swim, snorkel, dive, take a variety of boat trips or quad bike tours, scenic flights are available, also 4WD tours which take

you out of Coral Bay to show you other spectacular locations & National Parks in the region. A boutique range of small shopping

outlets provide a unique selection of clothing, jewellery, gifts, toys, beauty products & services. Relax on the beach or take a long

walk along it. Sunsets in Coral Bay are spectacular.

Coral Bay is situated in the Gascoyne region of Western Australia; it is a remote, dry location, classified as desert. Fresh water is a

particularly valuable commodity here; we ask that you use it wisely. Much of Coral Bay and its surrounds, including the Ningaloo

Reef System are protected by Department of Environment & Conservation regulations as a Marine Park. At Ningaloo Reef Dive we

support the “NO TOUCH” protocol. Flora & fauna within the Ningaloo Reef Marine Park is protected and preserved for future genera-

tions by following this simple rule. We thank you for your support.

is this the clearest water in the world?

tranqilityIt was not until 1968 that formal settlement began at Bills Bay

with the establishment of an hotel, caravan park and a service

station. The Hotel was named the Coral Bay Hotel probably

because of the outstanding Coral Reef. Consequently the set-

tlement became known as Coral Bay.

The town is not just for divers however and attracts many tourists and backpackers looking for the quiet life. Tourism is the

main economy resulting in an excellent range of accommodation and dining options. Those on a tight budget can stay in the

no-frills hostels whilst 5-Star hotels and resorts cater for people seeking a little more luxury.

Restaurants and cafes in town offer many different cuisines to suit all tastes. Alfresco dining is at its best in the early even-

ing with the setting sun as a backdrop. This town is the perfect place to relax, forget about your worries and have a peaceful

holiday. The water sports fanatics will use this as a springboard towards their own adventures.

conserve this ancient and unique landscape

Exmouth Diving Centre is located in Exmouth, Australia,

which is a small town of about 3,500 people situated just

north of the Tropic of Capricorn, about 1,270 km north of

Perth, and has an average winter temperature of 25 degrees

centigrade, while the summer averages 35 degrees. Luckily,

Exmouth has no wet season, so the summer days are low in

humidity. In fact, you can check if it is sunny in Exmouth right

The bay area (Bill’s Bay) is a Sanctuary area and no fish or any other sea creatures may be taken from this area. The sanctuary includes all

the area bounded by lines joining the south end of the North passage, Point Maud, Monk’s Head and the main reef due west of Monk’s Head.

Beach fishing only is permitted in this area but only between the south end of the bay and Monk’s Head.

Despite this there are plenty of options. You may fish from the beach anywhere north of Point Maud and anywhere south of the bay. From a

dinghy, fishing is permitted inside the reef south of Monk’s Head or north of Point Maud.
