What Is Copyright? Is the permission to

use someone’s else’s work.

If you need to copy pages from a book or novel , you may use it only for instructional purpose.

Who Is The Owner? Two reasons for

ownership.

1. Who has more ownership or rights of the work.

2.Whom do we ask permission to use the work.

The copyright act will allow the authors a set of rights that only they have access.

This includes rights to: Make copies Distribute in public Perform their work Record over digital network.

What Rights Do You Have

You publish your work with a commercial for profit or non profit publishers.

You reserve the right to publish your work in public for example a magazine, or agency.

Commercializing your work?

Creative Commons License will be used.

This license will let the owner the exclusive rights to make copies and may distribute.

You have rights for lifetime, and 70 plus years.

Not Commercializing Your Work

This is literature that is digital and available online and is also free of charge to user.

Who benefits from this: Students Teachers Readers Universities Journals

Open Access

Remember that not all materials you find on the internet are copyright free.

Don’t think that just because it its posted on the web its public domain.

Once you decide to copy something from the internet the copyright protection Is secure.

Can we copy materials from the internet?

Fair use applies to the online environment.

Fair use is giving copyright permission to the owner to reproduce and given permission to others to use there work.

By doing this the correct way it avoids lawsuits.

Four Factors of Fair Use

Libraries have a special set of exemptions:

Reserve rooms for images, audio and audiovisual works

Library copying for patrons and for the library's collection

Reserve is limited work use

This act allow teachers to copyright materials without seeking permission.

This materials can be used for classroom instruction only

Teachers may use a wide range of materials in distance learning surroundings.

Students may participate in distance learning sessions.

There are several ways on getting permission to use a copyright.

It can be difficult but can be done If you work is part of a journal article or

book check on: http://www.copyright.com/ You may also get permission to register with

the CCC You may also request permission in writing Last but not least ask your librarian at your

local library.
