The legal right granted to an author , a composer, a playwright, a publisher, or a distributor to exclusive publication, production, sale, or distribution of a literary, musical, dramatic, artistic work.

Public Domain

• The public domain is a range of abstract materials commonly referred to as intellectual property—which are not owned or controlled by anyone.

• The term indicates that these materials are therefore "public property", and available for anyone to use for any purpose.

• The public domain can be defined in contrast to several forms of intellectual property; the public domain in contrast to copyrighted works is different from the public domain in contrast to trademarks or patented works.

Fair Use In determining whether the use made of a work in any particular

case is a fair use the factors to be considered shall include:

(1) the purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes;

(2) the nature of the copyrighted work;

(3) the amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole; and

(4) the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work.

The fact that a work is unpublished shall not itself bar a finding of fair use if such finding is made upon consideration of all the above factors.

Don’t Copy If:

Copying is done to create or replace or substitute for anthologies, compilations, or collective works.

The item is consumable. You are in any way substituting for

purchasing books. You intended to make a profit. You intend to use it term after term.
