Overview

Today we’re going to go over how your organization or company can create a resource that your users can access anywhere; just by texting in. No need to build an expensive app, no need for a smartphone or wi-fi signal-just a phone that can send and receive texts!

What is an mData?

An mData is a text-based campaign that allows you to have your users send a query to a spreadsheet or online webservice

Location-Based

• People text in a keyword to your shortcode (e.g. WHERE to 877877)

• They reply with address info that is then geo-coded by Mobile Commons and compared with your database

• The user receives the nearest location to the address they texted in

Non Location-Based

• People text in a keyword to your shortcode (e.g. SHOP to 30644)

• No address information needed, just a search term, such as “company name” (e.g. Apple)

• The user’s response is compared to your database and a response is sent back to them based on matches

User Experience

• Send out a broadcast that triggers an mData

• Have users text in a keyword, and in that opt-in path, ask for a response (people will be subscribers)

• Have users text in a keyword and a search term (users will not be opted in)

What if there are no matches?

• You can customize autoresponse users receive, such as “reply with your address now to find the nearest location”

• You can also customize the “no results found” message if their response does not match anything in your database

• Great user experience!
