The end of 2012 was a busy timeof graduations at CLTC.

The rst was a group who graduatedfrom the six-month Rice Program.

It was good to see the four studentsreceive certicates and for the rst

time a woman graduated.

At the same service thirteen menand women graduated from the

Preaching Course.

Also, at this time local men andwomen received certicates fromthe Pastors Course. This has been

a very successful outreach to localpastors who have received little

or no Bible training, and preparesthem to teach more effectively.

Then on December 1, history wasmade when 87 students (the largest

number ever) graduated. For the rsttime, six students graduated withMaster of Theology and one with

Postgraduate Diploma of Theology.There was a time of silence toremember Tui Komia who died before

the graduation. He was awarded theMaster of Theology posthumously.

There were graduates in Bachelorof Theology (9), the last group of

Diploma of Theology (13), Diplomaof Mission (2), Diploma of Ministry

(35), Advanced Certicate ofChristian Studies (1), Certicate ofBible and Ministry(16), and One-Year

Bible Course (4).

Hundreds of visitors crowded intothe College to see the ceremony.Dr John Hitchen preached on

Romans 12, encouraging thegraduates to be better equipped intheir relationship with God, their

relationship to the world and theway they relate to themselves.

CLTC continues to send men andwomen into the world inspired to be

godly leaders in PNG and the Pacicarea.

CLTC Program Updates

After three preaching training sessions from 2009,

Langham coordinated a further preaching sessionwith delegates chosen from the many graduatesfrom the three training sessions.

In December 2012 the participants met withfacilitators from Australia, Wendy Toulman and

Andrew Reid.

The delegates resolved to go back to their churches

and plan how they can form preaching clubs, inspirechurch leaders and run preaching programs based on

the Langham model.

Two of the delegates, Jonathan Inapelo and

Captain Henry Henari were invited and attendedthe Langham Preaching Conference in Brisbane inFebruary 2013.

The two-year Master of Theology program for

2013-14 nally began after a 3-week delay. Thiswas mainly due to visa problems experienced bythe international students.

In the rst term the ten students studied Theological

Research and Writing, Greek and Advanced ComputerSkills. Masters students are housed in the newly-completed Masters Village. We are grateful for thenancial partnership of Overseas Council Australia in

assisting with building and operational costs.

The rst student cohort in the Master of Arts in

Organisational Leadership took place at Unitechin Lae in November 2012.

This new program is being offered through Unitech inpartnership with Development Associates International(DAI) and CLTC. The curriculum and professors to teach

the units are provided by DAI, and the accreditationand administration by Unitech. This is a unique distanceeducation program at Masters level aimed at emerging

non-western Christian leaders in PNG and the Pacic.It is also offered in many other countries. The students

meet for a one-week intensive introduction to two unitsand then follow a program of self-study through internetcontact with the professors who come from all over the

world.

Dr Jane Overstreet (International Director of DAI)

introduced the Teaching and Learning for Impactmodule, and Dr David Price (former Principal of CLTC,

now with Pioneers in leadership training) introducedthe foundation Leadership module. These units are allbiblically-based which presents a unique opportunity

being taught in a PNG university context. It was

encouraging to have 19 students participate who werefrom different ministries and organisations in PNG.

Please pray that those in this program will not onlydevelop as leaders of integrity, but also in their

knowledge of God and His Word.

Meet Our Chaplain

I am Pastor Bosuk Anisep, the

Chaplain at Christian LeadersTraining College.

I am from Telefomin in SandaunProvince and my wife Elizabethis from Dreikikier in East Sepik

Province. We have four boys whosenames are Andrew, Caleb, David

and Fredrick.

I rst came to Christian Leaders

Training College as a single manin 1982 to study the Certicate ofBiblical Studies. I graduated in 1984.

At that time Dr David Price wasPrincipal and Dr Joshua Daimoi

was the Deputy Principal.

After graduation I returned to

Telefomin and was appointed youthcoordinator for the Min BaptistUnion, and I served as Youth Pastor

for ve years. During this time,Elizabeth and I married in July 1986.

In 1990 I returned to CLTC to studyDiploma of Theology. For my six

months internship, the collegesent us to Lake Nash in NorthernTerritory, Australia. I was also

Student President in 1993 and atthe end of that year I graduated

with Diploma of Theology.

We returned to Telefomin and servedwith Min Baptist Union for another

ve years in the roles of YouthMinistry Coordinator, Block Courses

Teacher and Telefomin DistrictHospital Chaplain.

On completion of this ve yearsof service, we came back to CLTCagain to study Bachelor of Theology

from 1999-2000. During this timeElizabeth worked as a nurse at

the CLTC Clinic as she had donepreviously from 1990-1993.

After graduating in 2000 I wasappointed senior pastor at Mt HagenBaptist Church. I was also Vice

President of the Baptist Union ofPNG. Elizabeth served as Church

Hostel Accommodation Manager,part-time community developmentworker teaching literacy and sewing,

and teaching Sunday School.

At the end of 2009 we responded

to Gods call to come back to thecollege to serve as chaplain and

Elizabeth as a nurse to work in theCLTC clinic. Elizabeth and I feel thatit is a great privilege to come back

and contribute to the work here atCLTC, because this is the place wherewe were equipped and trained to be

the people we are now, spirituallyand academically, and to be able toserve in ministries at this level.

As chaplain, Bosuk is available to all

members of the College community. His

role involves counselling, disciplinary

matters, pastoral care, convening the

worship committee, coordinating specialevents such as the Easter program and

conducting preaching classes.

John Mark Moata is a man of many talents. He rst came to

CLTC in 2010 and completed his Diploma of Ministry in 2012.He is now continuing his studies in the Bachelor of Theologyprogram.

John Mark is from the Autonomous Region of Bougainville, an

area of PNG which has seen political turmoil and conict overmany years.

In his younger years before coming to CLTC John attended the

Royal Australian Air Force School of Technical Training in NSWand a Military Intelligence Course in South Australia. He also

studied Aircraft Maintenance Engineering. He enlisted in thePNG Defence Force and worked in the Military IntelligenceHeadquarters for three years, was Assistant Chief Aircraft

Engineer, Hangar Foreman and a corporal in the Apprentice Unit.

Later he became a pastor and was serving the Wesleyan Church

in this role for 7 years before coming to CLTC for further

ministry training.

John often leads the student choir for special events on campus.As Student President he is making a big contribution to the lives

of his fellow students at CLTC.

I am Joseph Aruni who graduatedwith a Diploma of Ministry in 2012.We give glory to God who brought us

to this marvellous place of change,to experience and build relationshipswith students, faculty and workersof diverse cultural groups.

My wife Betty, adopted son Juniorand I come from Wapenamanda in

the Enga Province.

I was only a 9-months-old Christian,while my wife Betty did not even

know the Lord when we rst wentto Aviamp Bible College. I asked her

if she would like to receive Jesus

Christ as her Saviour and come withme, or if she wanted to stay at

home. She said she would acceptJesus Christ and come with me.

At Aviamp I could see my wife had

not changed her life a great deal.

Though a young, immature

Christian myself, I hadsleepless nights praying

and asking God to changemy wife completely. Godsaw my hearts desire and

she came to know Jesusas her Saviour and herlife changed.

We applied and wereaccepted to come to

CLTC. There is no other place likethe CLTC family a place of fertile

soil and a place of CHANGE,change that takes place from insideto outside.

We came to CLTC as young,spiritually immature Christians, like

dry seed that needs soil and rain inorder to die and germinate. In the

CLTC fertile soil we germinated andgrew into maturity both spiritually

and physically. A big changehas taken place in our individual

lives and our family life. We thankGod for CLTC.

I will pastor a church at Mt Hagenduring our one-year internship. I will

then, with Gods grace, come backto complete my Bachelor course atCLTC.

KNOWING CHRIST AND MAKING HIM

KNOWN became our motto whilewe were students at CLTC, and has

been in all our ministry since.

In 1989, we were challenged to learnmore about Christ and His calling

on our lives. We had both beenemployed in Port Moresby and beganas 1st year students in CLTCs UMIC

program.

In 1991 we moved to the Banz

campus and began full-time studies.Leaving Port Moresby was not easy

as our church wanted us to chooseanother pathway. Praise be toGod for changing their minds and

releasing us for studies outside of ourdenomination.

During our time at CLTC many lessons

were learned and our spiritualfoundations grew and developed.

We found good teaching and spiritualmentoring from good leaders.

Following graduation in 1994 wehave encountered many trials and

much joy. We wanted to experiencethe intimacy of growing deeper inChrist and this has come through

pain, sickness, sorrow, and grief thathas held our marriage, children andhome together. Christ must be known

and seen rstly in our marriage,

children and home before others canbe convinced of this message of hope

and love to a sick and dying world.

Gods call to follow Him in missionwith Australian Indigenous Ministries

(AIM) came to us in 2010. We were atthe height of ministry in Port Moresby,but our trials were great: a childs

marriage breakup, a son lost to abrain tumor. A missions opportunityin Australia took us to Gilgandra

and Walgett for a week. In those

Aboriginal communities we identiedwith the brokenness of family life,

mothers in pubs with babies in pramsand churches empty. The Lord spoke

to us of the need and hopelessnessand we wept. We arrived back in Port

Moresby, offered our resignation to

our church and were released to moveto Australia. AIM recommended us for

Cherbourg (north of Brisbane).

After seven months of prayer and

fasting, we arrived at Cherbourg, ayear to the day after our son went tobe with the Lord, July 13. He turned

our mourning to dancing and sorrowinto joy and a ministry was begun

here. Our daughter, Retta, 21 yrs. isthe backbone of the ministry, as theneed for young people is so obvious.

She is so willing and daring to move tobring transformation into the lives ofthese youth!

Retta is following in the footsteps of

the founder of AIM, Retta Dixon Long,grandmother of our spiritual mentorat CLTC, Retta Long Renich. She

believes her calling is a legacy begunby Retta Dixon Long, continued byRetta Long Renich and now evident in

Retta Moses!

There are many community projects

that we, as a family, are involved inaround Cherbourg and we count it a

privilege to serve the Lord togetherhere in Australia. Pray for us as moreand more doors of opportunity open

to us.

Pray for Our New First Year StudentsCLTC received another large number of applications for 2013. Unfortunately space prevented all suitablestudents being selected and so the Selection Committee had the hard task of prayfully considering who would

2012 Missions Week Inspiring, Supporting and ChallengingLecturers Visit Australia

Overseas Council Australia (OCA)sponsors the Masters Course atCLTC. The rst group of Masters

students graduated in 2012. OCAwished to promote the course forfurther sponsorship and to thank

those who have already given to thesponsorship program so in March,

two of the Masters graduates,Maxon Mani and George Mombi(college lecturers), were invited

to Australia to share with OCAsupporters. They spent two weeksspeaking in Sydney, Melbourne,

Brisbane and Perth, sharing withchurch groups and OCA supporters.

Each year CLTC inspires Christians

from all over the country to focuson the call to take the Gospel toall parts of the world. The 2012

Missions week attracted over120 delegates.

The theme was Fan the Flame forthe Vision of Missions in Papua New

Guinea.

On the rst weekend many mission

organisations shared details of theirministries, their struggles, theirstrengths and their weaknesses.

Before the week was over they hadenthusiastically covenanted to work

together and to pray for each otherin the future. They have seen this asa new beginning for the future and

for working cooperatively, and haveasked the College to coordinate asimilar meeting next year.

During the following week,

delegates and students heardtestimonies from returning

missionaries, met with candidates

who are still waiting to becommissioned, were challengedeach day by messages of

exhortation, watched mission videosand had the opportunity to addresstheir questions directly to the

mission delegates concerning thedifferent types of missionary serviceneeded and the requirements of

each missionary organisation.

At the close of the week, when achallenge was presented, 20 peoplededicated their lives promising

to serve or assist in some way inmission activity.

Lae PropertyIn our last College News we wrote about the proposed purchase of a new

property in Lae. Unfortunately, the purchase did not go ahead. Insteadit is planned to make improvements to the existing property. If you havemade a donation for the new property, please contact the CLTC ofce to

which you sent it, and indicate whether you are happy for your donationto be used for improving the existing property or if you prefer it to beused for a different purpose.

We are well into the New Year (2013) andit is normal to ask, What are we going to

do, and how far can we look ahead and with

what expectations? May I bring to us all adeep desire that prompts me to ask that we

all prayerfully think about the theme for thisyear 2013 and beyond To Grow Warmer

through Fellowship, Deeper in Discipleship,Stronger through Worship and Broader

in Ministry so that together we can excelin serving Him for His glory. But as youexcel in everything in faith, in speech, inknowledge, and in all eagerness and in the

love from us that is in you make sure thatyou excel in this act of kindness too 2 Corinthians 8:7 (NET).

Together we will strive to excel

for His glory.

During the Commencement Service on

Sunday February 3rd I shared the followingperspective for 2013: Inspired by the vision

and challenged by the Mission of the College,we will strive to pursue excellence in allthat we do in 2013 for His glory. We will be

focused on attaining the state, quality andthe highest condition of excellence; to dobetter than what we have achieved and to

surpass what we have established.

Our pursuit of excellence will not be amatter of simply choosing between what isgood or bad, what is enough and what is not

enough, but of choosing what is the very bestor superior because it will better enable us toaccomplish what God has designed CLTC for

and who we are to achieve excellence for hisglory in 2013.

To strive for success we will be our bestin what we will do this year. However,

excellence must cause us to be our very bestand not just for the sake of success. Success

to us may mean being better than everyoneelse, but excellence means being bettertomorrow than we were yesterday. Success

may mean exceeding the achievements ofother people. However excellence meansmatching our practice with our potential that

God has gifted us to serve Him for His glory.

In 2013 we will strive to excel in trainingand equipping Disciples of Christ, who willgrow in their Christ-like life because they are

rooted and founded in biblical understanding.We will strive to equip and train disciplesof Christ who will become spiritually

mature and empowered by the HolySpirit to experience spiritual and physical

transformation in their lives. We will striveto inspire well-equipped and trained discipleswho will know the Christ they profess as their

Lord and in turn they will make Him knownthrough the fullness of a Christ-like lifeand overowing state of Christian inuence

in their families, communities, churches,nations and the world.

As you read the rst College News for thisyear I hope and pray you will enjoy reading

what has happened at CLTC. This is achallenge to all of us to look on ahead.Are you willing to join us in all that wewill do together to maintain and promotethe grace, goodness and blessing of God in
