as we begin to bid adieu to summer and embrace the fall, we are excited to celebrate our young people. over the last month, just a few of the events that our youth have hosted include a Youth Conference and a Fashion show. They

also participated in a slam dunk contest!

we are committed to investing in the lives of our young people. The results can be seen each sunday when hundreds of young hearts are given spiritual instructions based on sound biblical principles.

From toddlers to teens, our youth are gaining an understanding of life altering principles like repentance, forgiveness and salvation. our amazing Children’s Church staff reaches our youth where they are and takes them where they need to go in Christ!

we know that the investment that we place in our Children’s Church ministry brings honor to Christ. our young people, by their very geographic proximity to the nation’s capital, have the power to make an impact for Christ that could positively influence the entire globe.

If you have a heart for young people and want to give back, we hope that you will connect with the Children’s Church ministry and begin investing in the lives of today’s young leaders.

God bless,

Pastor & First ladY

The theme for Children’s Church this quarter has been Friendship, salvation, love, Repentance, believing something, and the Ten Commandments. The bible tells us that “a friend loves at all times. . . .” Proverbs 17:17. God wants us to be kind and loving to our friends no matter how they behave. our daily walk and footsteps should make our friends feel the love of God and make them want to have the gift of salvation.

what is salvation? In Children’s Church we have been learning the answer to this question. salvation occurs when we receive Jesus Christ as our lord and saviour. a person who has received the gift of salvation is saved from the penalty and power of sin! The devil cannot make a person who has salvation be unkind to their friends or disobedient to their parents and teachers. a person who has salvation is a disciple of Jesus Christ and has the Holy spirit to help resist doing bad things or committing sins.

some different words for the word “salvation” are: “saved” (Romans 10:10) and “born again” (John 3:3). Three things must happen for someone to receive the gift of salvation. a person must: 1. Repent; 2. believe something; and 3. say something.

our salvation shout teaches us what it means to repent and what we must believe. First we have to turn away from sin and turn towards God. we must also believe that God Raised Jesus Christ from the dead and that Jesus is alIve! Finally, we must say what we believe -- Jesus Is The lord!

Children, complete the salvation IQ and bring it to Children’s Church to receive a special prize. Join us at Children’s Church to get a copy of the salvation shout. If you learn it, you will earn a different gift. If you learn both the shout and the scripture, Romans 10:9, you will receive a double reward. be sure to let a member of the Children Church’s staff know that you are ready to show that you’ve “studied to show yourself approved of God!!!” 2 Timothy 2:15

Soles for Jesus Shoe Drive

Children who don’t have shoes are at an increased risk for sickness and disease. This is a big problem in many countries where children suffer from diseases that would not place them under attack if they had a pair of shoes.

During the months of July and August the children will be preparing to kick off their next service project – a shoe drive to benefit children in Ethiopia and other areas of need. In preparation, we are asking parents to help this be a service project motivated and driven by the “children.” Let the children ask their family, church family, friends, schoolmates and others for donations of shoes. Help the children to clean the shoes, place them in plastic bags and add clean shoestrings. Bring the shoes to Children’s Church and let the children walk our Red Carpet WITHOUT their shoes. Other City of Praise family can place their donations in the boxes

or come visit Children’s Church to walk shoeless over the Red Carpet too. The children will further prepare the shoes for shipping by inspecting them and adding notes that share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Here are

some guidelines for the project:

1. When will the collection of shoes occur? Shoes will be collected during the month of September at Church and other services. They will be prepared for shipping by the children during the month of October. 2. What types of shoes are accepted? New and gently used shoes for children and youth are acceptable in the following sizes: Toddler through Adult Size 12. Tennis shoes, casual shoes, sandals, mary janes, flats, loafers and crocs are all great shoes to donate.

3. What types of shoes do you NOT accept? NO cleats, winter boots or used flip flops please.

4. How do you define “gently used?” A good measuring stick to ask yourself; “Is this a pair that I would ever wear?” Out-dated styles that are in good shape are

gratefully accepted. However, use discretion regarding shoes that are no longer functional. A little care can go a long way, so please clean off the mud or soil and make sure that there are no holes. If the shoes require laces, please make sure that they are attached.

5. Can I place a note to the child? Parents are encouraged to involve their children in their giving. Help the child to tuck a small note inside of a shoe for a child to receive across the ocean. What a great addition to your gift of love, especially for a child who does not have a family of their own!

6. Monetary Donations from parents and our church family will be gladly accepted as it costs $4.00 per pair of shoes for shipping. The children will also need other supplies such as new shoe strings and clear plastic bags to hold the shoes as well as ties and large rubber bands to keep the shoes together. Any assistance the City of Praise Church Family can provide will be welcomed.

Let us teach the children to work as hard at serving as they do at playing their games!

on June 10, 2012 the Children’s Ministries celebrated national Children’s day with activities focused on learning about God while having fun. The children who attended Children’s Church were greeted with signs and decorations celebrating them. They received tasty snacks while they listened to a ser-mon. each child also received a decorated and delicious cupcake along with goodie bags containing bubbles, games, candy and other toys. Finally, each child in attendance was able to select a Christian coloring or activity book to take home. There were many smiles from the Children’s Church staff, par-ents and the children. Parents signed commitment cards promising to love, cherish, care and nurture the spiritual, physical, mental, and emotional needs of their children.

donations were received from the parents and children which included books for summer reading, coloring books, crayons, puzzles, pencils, markers, toothbrushes, toothpaste, washcloths, soap, socks and many other items. Pillows, pillow cases and rugs were also donated.

during the month of July the children, with the assistance of the Children’s Church’s youth staff, packed the mega bags and baskets with the donated items. The children, youth and adult staff also signed and prepared Certificates for the Children which accompanied their gifts. Ten gifts, having an estimated value of $600.00, were delivered on July 3, 2012 to the Family Crisis Center, Inc. of Prince George’s County. This organization provides a safe haven shelter to mothers and their children who are victims of domestic violence.
