GENERAL PRINCIPLES OF COOLING TOWERS

Cooling towers reject waste heat from the system.Wet towers manage cooling by means of evaporation and sensible heat transfer where dry coolers do by means of contact transfer.

COOLING TOWER BASIN

Cooling towers have a storage volume which named cold water basin.Basin depths change from 30cm to 600cm depending on storage demand.Basins are working as a sediment pool.This causes sludge by collecting dust from the air and from circulating water of cooling tower.To remove the sludge from basin botton is pretty hard after a while.There are a few methods to reduce the sludge.One is to give slope to the basin towards suction pool.One is to use side stream filters.The other is to use pressured water in the botton of pool.
