• Occasionally you will have to convert a recipe’s portions, measurements and
temperature ranges
Fahrenheit
• Fahrenheit – the customary unit of measurement for the United States
• What is the temperature for freezing?– 32 degrees fahrenheit
– What’s the temperature for boiling?– 212 degrees Fahrenheit
Celsius
• Celsius – the standard unit of measurement in the metric system
• The temperature for freezing in Celsius?– 0 degrees Celsius
– The temperature for boiling in Celsius– 100 degrees celsius
Differences in Boiling Points
• Did you know that higher in altitude you go, farther above sea level..– water boils at a lower temperature
• The lower in altitude you go, below sea level..
• water boils at a higher temperature
Converting Temperatures
• Occasionally you will come across the need to convert Fahrenheit to Celsius
– Subtract 32 from the Fahrenheit number, multiply the answer by 5,
then divide by 9
