    *NOTES:

This conversion chart is only to be used as a rough estimatewhen closeaccess to the leak site is not possible or inconvenient.

When taking readings at a distance in a Plant, competing ultrasounds(reflecting off of ceilings, etc.) can cause artificially high ultrasoundreadings and hence, cause the leak results to be too high or possiblysuspect. It is recommended to reduce the readings from 20 to 40% in highcompeting ultrasound areas.

Correction Factors are rounded off to the nearest whole number.

If reading is not taken at the above distances, it is advised to round off tothe lesser distance.

    Example:

If we detect a leak that is 20 feet ( 6.1 meters ) away with the Long Range Moduleand get a reading of 30 dB, to convert it back to a Scanning Module Reading withthe Rubber Focusing Probe at 15 inches or 1.25 feet ( 0.4 meters) we add 13 dBand get a reading of 43 dB.

    So, 30 dB + 13 db = 43 dB

    IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS:

Please keep in mind that these correction factors are to be used as a roughestimateof the actual leak rate, and errors due to reflected competingultrasounds can cause high ultrasound readings and therefore artificially highleak rates. It is advisable to reduce the leak rates and costs by a factor of 20 to40% depending on the level of competing ultrasounds. It is better to underestimate the compressed air losses than to over estimate them.
