(PITHNITA) $100In addition to improving your language skills through a review and expansion of vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammar, this course will explain Italian culture and customs to help make your stay in Italy a valuable experience. Special emphasis will be given to understanding and using idiomatic language and slang, to relevant language functions, and to social norms and etiquette. Italiano a 360 Gradi (PII360G) $700If you only know a few words: “Ciao!” “Buon giorno!”, but really don’t know any grammar or have much vocabulary, this is the course for you. You will learn how to pronounce words properly, how to greet each other formally and informally, how to introduce yourself, how to describe things using the present tense, how to ask for information. Jewish Literature during Fascism (PIJLITF) $250This class will focus primarily on the book and the movie ‘Il giardino dei Finzi-Contini’ by Giorgio Bassani, excerpts from the Storie ferraresi also by Bassani, Bruno Piazza, Giuliana Tedeschi e Liana MIllu. It will offer a unique perspective on what went wrong during fascist Italy as well as a detailed overview of the fascist regime, Mussolini and its legacy in today’s Italy. The Italians will really appreciate your efforts, and they will help you too. This course is designed for travelers who want to break the language barrier with some basic, practical communication skills. You will be able to carry on a basic Italian conversation at a hotel, train station, restaurant, airport, rent-a-car office, currency exchange office, etc. You will be able to introduce yourself and have a casual conversation while traveling. There will be plenty of chances to practice by speaking and with written exercises. We will go over most irregular verbs, the personal pronouns as direct and indirect objects, the indefinite adjectives and pronouns, and the subjunctive and its uses.
