CONTROL OF INDUSTRIAL NOISE AND PROTECTION

• Excessive noise is one of the pollutant in industry, which is required to be control for preventing the workers from various disease discussed in the previous section.• Although it is not possible to complete control the noise in the industry, we

can reduce the intensity of noise of noise.• Following are ways to control the noise pollution:1. Noise control at source2. Noise control achieved through enclosure3. Noise control through absorption4. Noise control through ear protecting equipment

Noise control at the sourceIt is best method to control the noise at the origin in order to avoid

harmful effects of noise pollution. Many industrial equipment are making unnecessary noise since

they are old or they are not provided proper foundation which can be absorb noise vibration.

So, these kind of noise pollution can be achieved through repairing those old machine or providing proper shock absorbing foundation to the machine

Also, vibration dampers should be provided to absorb the noise.

Achievement of noise through enclose Significant amount of noise can be reduced by providing encloses to the

machine.If possible such noise making machines should be kept in a separate isolated

rooms with shielding of proper shock absorbing material.Separate partition should be provided, if possible.

Noise control through absorptionIf is not possible to reduce the noise at origin or providing shielding to the

machines, it is compulsory to absorb the noise from the machines.Walls and celling must be provided with sound absorbing material.High ceiling height as well as empty space near noise making machine can

reduce the noise pollution significantly.

Use of protecting equipmentEven after above all options, noise pollution is still substantial and

all methods are ineffective, final solution is to protect the ear from noise by noise controlling device such as ear plugs, muffs, helmets, cotton or Soft rubber.

The worker have to use these protection equipment against the noise while working near such high noise making machine.

Generally worker have tendency to ignore its use but it will affect their ears.

So, they must be trained to wear them at the time of work.
