CONTROL COST – PROBLEM Name:_________The Project is to color 4 rooms in a house, each room should take 1 day to color and is budgeted for $100/day. This 4 day project has a Start to Finish Relationship constraint (you have finish coloring the previous room to start working on the next). It’s the end of Day 3 today and the status of the project is as follows: Room 1 is completed and it cost $100, Room 2 is completed and cost $150, Room 3 is half way done (50%) and cost $70. Based on this scenario you have to apply Earned Value Management & Forecasting Techniques to find:
1. Planned value (PV)2. Earned Value (EV)3. Actual Cost (AC)4. Budget at completing (BAC)5. Schedule Variance (SV)6. Schedule Performance Index (SPI)7. Cost Variance (CV)8. Cost Performance Index (CPI)9. Estimate at Completing (EAC)10. Estimate to Complete (ETC)11. Variance at Complete (VAC)
Approach Process
Room / Day
Planned Value (PV)Budgeted Cost of WorkScheduled (BCWS) for 3 days
Earned Value (EV) Budgeted Cost of Work Performed (BCWP) in 3 Days
Actual Cost (AC)Actual Cost of Work Performed (ACWP) in 3 Days
Budget At Completing (BAC) Total amount of money budgeted for 4 rooms in 4 Days
Room 1-Day 1 @ 100% done ? ? ? ?
Room 2-Day 2@100% done ? ? ?
Room 3-Day 3 @ 50% done ? ? ?
TOTAL @ 3 Days ? ? ?

Acronym Formula Solution Interpretation
Schedule Variance (SV) SV=EV - PV
Schedule Performance Index (SPI)
SPI=EV / PV
Cost Variance (CV) CV=EV - AC
Cost Performance Index (CPI)
CPI=EV / AC
Estimate at Completion (EAC)
EAC=BAC/CPI
Estimate to Complete (ETC) ETC=EAC-AC
Variance at Complete (VAC) VAC=BAC-EAC
