Narendra Modi’s journey began in the by-lanes of Vadnagar, a
small and nondescript town in North Gujarat’s Mehsana district.
Born on 17th September 1950, 3 years after India attained
freedom and within months of India becoming a Republic.
If there is one word that characterized Narendra Modi’s
childhood and stayed with him for the rest of his life, it is
service.
Fate had versatile plans for this young boy who was
disappointed on not being able to wear the uniform of a Jawan.
Over the years he embarked on a unique path that took him
across India in pursuit of the larger mission to serve
humanity.
At the age of 17 he left home to travel across India.
For two years he travelled across the expansive
landscape of India exploring various cultures. When
he returned home he was a changed man with a clear
aim of what he wanted to achieve in life.
It was a tough routine for Narendra Modi in
Ahmadabad since 1972 when he became a
Pracharak for RSS. His day began at 5 am and went
on till late night.
Narendra Modi always had the utmost zeal and
enthusiasm to serve and help the people in need.
As a young boy during the Indo-Pak war in 1965,
Narendra Modi voluntarily offered his services to the
soldiers at the railway stations.
Narendra Modi was given charge of the student wing,
which is better known as Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi
Parishad (ABVP).
Became the General Secretary of the BJP's Gujarat
unit in 1988.
Recognized as a key strategist for being instrumental
in successfully campaigning for the party in the 1995
and 1998 Gujarat Elections, which led BJP to become
the ruling party of the state of Gujarat.
In 1995, Narendra Modi was appointed as the
Secretary of the BJP's national unit.
Narendra Modi became the Chief Minister of the state
of Gujarat for the first time in October 2001

conducted in 2006 by India Today magazine,
Narendra Modi was declared the Best Chief Minister
in the country.

for 2009 by fDi Magazine.
Modi is the first Prime Minister of India who was
born in 'Independent India’, that is, post-August
15, 1947.
He holds the record of winning a Lok Sabha seat
by the highest margin (about 5.70 lakhs;
Vadodara).
