Tired of spending thousands of dollars for parts that break down on your CAT/ASV/Terex Small Multi-Terrain or Compact Loaders? Are you missing rubber drive lugs on the track or have plastic/rubber wheels that wear out quickly? Bair Products, Inc. has solved your problems with their line of aftermarket heavy-duty undercarriage components that will outlast the life of your current factory parts with reduced repair costs, minimal down time and the ability to fix problems in the field within minutes.

rEbuILDabLE aXLE HOuSINGS.Fits CAT 267/277/287 and ASV/Terex RC 100 Multi-Terrain Loaders or similar undercarriages. These axle housings come already filled with grease and a shielded grease zerk for easy access. They will not condense water which means no more corrosion on the bearings. Idler Axles will have a dual bearing upgrade to increase its durability over common OEM axle failures. Seals are purgeable allowing the, end user to know when the housing is full.

Axles are sold individually for use with OEM wheels and/or Bair's upgraded solid alloy Idler wheels or can be bought as a complete set with only Bair's alloy wheels for complete durability and strength.

Compact Track Loader. Stop Track Derailments! Turn One and Two Factory Flange Wheels into Triple Flange with simple ad-ons. This ad-on will capture the track’s cleats at all sides. Spreads the machine’s weight and torque forces out and over the drive cleats.

rubber Track Installation Kit. Brand New on the Market! Install rubber tracks on CAT/ASV/Terex loaders Fast and Easy with hydraulic tools. Steel brackets attached to the machine’s frame. With the help of a hydraulic cylinder and porta-power, these parts will help to move the rubber track back onto the undercarriage frame in about 30 minutes.

aFTEr MarKET rubbEr TraCKS. Stop buying cheaply made rubber tracks from unknown dealers. Our non-metal core track has the same durability as factory tracks for less money than the expensive equipment dealers.

“Larry LuGS” PaTENTED bOLT-ON rEPLaCEMENT DrIVE LuGS.Don’t throw away your track due to missing drive lugs. Larry Lugs are heavy-duty lugs that bolt onto the track in place of rubber lugs that have broken, worn, or delaminated off the track, extending the life of the track. These revolutionary lugs will outlive the track itself. Ten minutes to install in the field or shop without removing the track. Simply grind off the old lug, place a template onto the track, and drill directly into the template and track to match up your bolt holes. Using an air impact, tighten the bolts into the lug. Larry Lugs can replace all the original lugs on a track. When the life of the track is finished, remove the Larry Lugs and reinstall on different tracks.

Customers Testify Foundation Flood Vents Prevented Destruction Caused by Hurricane Sandy

In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, the largest Atlantic tropical system on record, Smart Vent Products, Inc. urges homeown-ers to build to the NFIP standards and beyond to minimize danger and destruction that a hurricane, flood or other natural disaster may cause.

In addition to the enormous costs of repairing homes damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Sandy, homeowners in storm-damaged areas will soon face soaring flood insurance rates and heightened standards for rebuilding. Retrofitting with compli-ant NFIP products, such as automatic flood foundation systems, not only reduces insurance premiums, but gives homeowners peace of mind that their home and family is protected from the devastating effects of a flood.

One example comes from Woodbridge, NJ where the Woodbridge Code Official reports that 35 homes were reported with col-lapsed foundations after Sandy. A Woodbridge resident (and SMART VENT customer), rebuilt his ravaged home to compliance after Hurricane Irene hit in 2011, and reported no damage after Hurricane Sandy:

"My home, along with many others on my block, was destroyed in Hurricane Irene. The tidal surge was so strong,

that the pressure of the water outside pushed against my foundation walls, causing them to give way and col-

lapse. Many on my block decided to repair, but I decided to build a new house on the same property, but this time

elevate it above the floodplain. My contractor and engineer explained to me about a product called SMART VENT,

which has built-in floats to have the doors only open to allow flood water to enter. I had five vents installed in my

new foundation walls,” said Justin Kooy of Woodbridge, NJ. “Hurricane Sandy came by 3 weeks after moving back

home, and hit my neighborhood hard. At least a dozen houses, including some just repaired after Irene, had foun-

dation collapses on my block. My foundation stood strong. Even though Sandy was a much more powerful storm,

and water levels were much higher than Irene, there was no structural damage at all. The SMART VENTS did their

job, allowing water to enter the crawl space under the home, relieving all pressure from the foundation walls. To

make things better, they even lowered my flood insurance bill!"

Certified by the International Code Council Evaluation Service (ICC-ES) and accepted by the Federal Emer-gency Management Agency (FEMA), each standard vent model is certified for 200 square feet of flood cover-age per unit. SMART VENT provides a line of engineered openings that utilizes the best flood venting prac-tices to out perform a traditional air vent. An automatic foundation flood vent system, controlled by patented dual floats, SMART VENT automati-cally opens when flood water levels rise, without electricity and without human intervention. Temperature controlled louvers control the airflow in and out of a crawlspace on all dual function models.

“So many people out there in flood zones have the thought that their home is never going to flood. So much so that builders and homeown-ers choose not to build up to NFIP standards including going with cheap, untested air vents as their required flood openings instead of compli-ant, certified flood vents,” said Brian Shaw, Business Development Manag-er, Smart Vent Products, Inc. “Mr. Kooy from Woodbridge, NJ is just one example of thousands that saw their foundation stay intact during Hurricane Sandy, by installing SMART VENTS.

"Utilizing wet floodproofing, also known as flood vents, is not only a Building Code and NFIP Regulation for residential struc-tures, but also the most logical way to protect floodplain structures without expanding the floodplain. Wet floodproofing is also a great option for non-residential buildings, eliminating the high cost and liability of dry floodproofing.”

For a free property evaluation you can contact one of their staffed Certified Floodplain Managers (CFM) at 877-441-8368 or visit www.smartvent.com.

Building to National Floor Insurance Program (NFIP) standards and beyond after

Hurricane Irene proved to minimize damage caused by Hurricane Sandy.

Curb Roller Manufacturing president Al Armstrong was pleasantly surprised to learn a popular television show was interested featuring Curb Roller.

Late last spring, a member of the production crew from the show Today In America with Terry Bradshaw had noticed the installation of curb and gutter occurring outside the program's Florida studio. Watching the Curb Roller at work was interesting enough to prompt the show's production team to research methods of curb and gutter installation.

After watching various installation methods on YouTube, the producer thought the Curb Roller method was the best way to lay curb and gutter – and it was interesting enough to earn a spot in the 'Critical Tools' segment of Today In America; the segment will be aired later this spring.

So where did the idea for the Curb Roller come from? Mike Goodman, co-owner of Curb Roller, relays the story: “It was a hot summer day, and we were pouring curb and gutter in a subdivision. It was hard to get the guys to come to work that day because it was so hot and they knew we were going to be forming curbs by hand. There were a lot of yards of concrete to be poured. When we had finished the job, we were all hot and exhausted, and we came back to the shop that evening with a cold bottle of beer."

Goodman continues, "I said that we have got

to figure a better and easier way to do curb and gutter. If only we had a way to spin that concrete into shape, kind of like a roller screed. Al (Armstrong) took his beer bottle and turned it a little bit and said, ‘Yeah, I think we can do that’.”

That Curb Roller idea went cold for a few months. Soon after a prototype was made, but it sat idle a few more months.

"One day we were discussing the prototype that Al had made and thought it would not work because it just looked too simple," says Goodman. "After a few more months, we decided to either junk it or try it out – so we made some makeshift forms and ordered a little concrete. To our surprise, it actually worked very well."

After experimenting with it for over a year, Armstrong and Goodman 'fine-tuned' the equipment, and it was a winner, earning the title of "Most Innovative Product" at the World of Concrete's 2008 show. "That certainly helped the company get some dealers on board," said Goodman. Curb Roller continues to gain momentum in the curb and gutter market.

Lights, Camera, Action... Curb Roller Shines In The Spotlight!

The Curb Roller presents a unique concept in concrete. It is the only roller screed built exclusively for curbs. With the Curb Roller, the need for skilled laborers is greatly reduced while uniformity of the finished product is enhanced.

Ideal for small areas and places where a tight radius is required, the Curb Roller is indispensable for small contractors and works well as an additional tool for slip form pavers who need a tool for smaller areas. For more information about the

dual-function outer ring brightens and the central LED array lights only during stop and turn functions.

“The GloLight is the stunning combination of premiere lighting technology meeting world-class styling capa-bilities,” Brett Johnson, president and CEO of Optron-ics International, said. “This is a clear expression of our greatly enhanced product development capabilities.”

All the lamps in the new GloLight Series meet all FM-VSS 108 and SAE photometric requirements for visibil-ity and safety. The lamps come with a lifetime warranty and are built to be as durable as they are attractive. Lenses and housings are made of tough polycarbonate material that is sonically welded, and the lamps employ a solid-state, surface-mount device (SMD) design that protects their electronics against moisture, shock and vibration.

Optronics has leveraged advancements in diode technology and innovative optic design techniques to achieve the diffused outer ring that gives the GloLight its signature look. With their smooth, glowing outer rings and dark centers, the new lamps fundamentally change the appearance of any vehicle they adorn.

Johnson said that Optronics has been gathering qualitative marketplace data by showing the GloLight to select customers and that the new lamps have been getting rave reviews. Johnson said that OEs see the lamps as a valuable product enhancement, while fleets appreciate the high quality and reasonable price point.

“Lighting is one of the most visibly predominant fea-tures on any vehicle, and this is a completely different looking, yet highly-effective light,” Charlie Mudd, presi-dent of Vanguard National Trailer Corporation, said. “Innovation is important to Vanguard, our customers and our industry. We expect these new lights to clearly represent the innovative partnership between Van-guard and Optronics.”

GloLight Lamps will be available in flange-mount and grommet-mount versions and are expected to begin shipping on Feb. 1, 2013. The lamps are available with standard PL-3 and Weather Tight termination options, allowing them to make use of existing harness con-nections for installation flexibility and cost effective retrofitting.

The new lamps are expected to be widely embraced by the heavy-duty trailer, light-duty trailer, RV, transit and marine markets Optronics currently serves. Prod-uct information is available and may be obtained by contacting Optronics or members of its North Ameri-can distribution network.

“From a visual perspective, nobody has done much to change the round and oval shapes that comprise to-day’s stop, tail, turn lamps,” Marcus Hester, director of sales and marketing for Optronics International, said. “The GloLight stands out and changes the way vehicle lighting looks, shifting trends and broadening lighting choices along the way.”

AXION Enters Construction and Equipment Mat Market With STRUXURE™ Mats That Prove Successful in ApplicationConstruction mats widely used in $147 billion non-building construc-tion market in U.S.AXION International Holdings, Inc. a leader in recy-cled plastic and plastic composite technologies used to produce ECOTRAX™ rail ties and STRUXURE™ build-ing products, announced recently that it has launched a new product line, STRUXURE™ Construction and Equipment Mats. STRUXURE™ Construction Mats have been installed and in use by Northeast Remsco Construction, Inc. for the past few months under a joint testing agreement.

STRUXURE™ mats were initially installed on a sewer site in Old Bridge, New Jersey, where they have imme-diately proven successful, outlasting their timber-based competition. As part of the joint testing agreement, STRUXURE™ mats will be removed from Old Bridge when that construction project is completed and moved to another Northeast Resmco construction site for continued use.

Continuing the problem-solving strategy of the ECOTRAX™ line, the STRUXURE™ construction mats are more durable than timber-based models in harsh environmental conditions. The STRUXURE™ mats will not rot or absorb moisture and are extremely durable. The STRUXURE™ design takes advantage of the higher compressive and ultimate strength – as compared to mixed-hardwood products – of AXION's recycled structural composite material.

"We have been building infrastructure for more than thirty years," explained Northeast Remsco's Equip-ment Manager John Gutierrez. "We have not seen a construction mat this durable. STRUXURE™ mats exceeded our expectations."

In application for Northeast Remsco Construction, Inc., STRUXURE™ construction mats outlasted the

timber-based models that began to degrade soon after installation. With a 117,000-pound CAT 349E hydraulic excavator and 80,000-pound loaded dump truck, the STRUXURE™ mats proved durable, resisting abra-sion from the treads of the excavator. Since installation the timber-based mats have been taken out of service, while the STRUXURE™ mats show little to no signs of wear.

"It is simple. We make a tough mat for the toughest conditions," stated AXION's EVP for Building Products Dave Crane. "Lighter weight at higher performance is what we are selling."

Durability in muddy, wet conditions has been a con-sistent problem for timber-based construction mats under heavy-treaded equipment. STRUXURE™ mats excel in the harshest conditions, given that the material is impervious to moisture and salt and is resistant to abrasion, whether it is from gravel or treads on tracked construction equipment.

AXION's southern-New Jersey based distributor En-vironmental Infrastructure Solutions (EIS) made the introduction to Northeast Remsco. EIS supplied silt fence and geotextile fabric to Northeast Remsco for the project and recognized the immediate environmental benefit of applying AXION's patent-protected green technology in an industry that needed a lasting solu-tion. Traditional wood mats have a short life, need to be frequently replaced, and cause a disposal problem for the industry at the end of their useful life.

"What do you do with rotted, wooden construction mats?" asked EIS President Charles Schlapfer, "You can't do anything with them. AXION's solution is recy-clable at the end of its functional life, a life that will also greatly exceed wooden mats. This is a break-through in this industry."

Total non-building construction in the U.S., which includes public works and electrical utilities, exceeded $147 billion in 2011 and was projected to end 2012 over $151 billion. Construction and equipment mats are widely used for many infrastructure projects to access sites, such as the one in Old Bridge, New Jersey, as heavy equipment would sink into the ground or cause damage to environmentally-sensitive areas.

The trailer can be customized for customers who need to remain below the superload weight limit in states with 120,000-pound gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) restrictions.

Each state has separate laws surrounding superloads. Generally, once a truck reaches superload status, route surveys and engineering reviews are required on roads and bridges to ensure the superload can travel the desired route without causing a hazard. Even after the permit is issued, there are further restrictions regard-ing when the load can move, usually on weekdays dur-ing daylight hours. Further, a permit is commonly valid for one trip only. Given these rules, the need for escorts and the cost of permits, most operators strive to stay below superload level for all the states through which a load will travel.

The 40-Ton Lightweight trailer can be designed for the transport of excavators, small to mid-sized dozers and other construction equipment, and it weighs just over 18,000 pounds. When paired with a truck, the unit can transport equipment at full capacity – up to 80,000 pounds – while remaining under the 120,000-pound superload limit.

To best accommodate the height of an excavator, Talbert can customize the trailer with a 22-inch deck height and a deck boom well. This six-foot-long re-cessed portion in the rear of the trailer is roughly six inches deep and plated for the bucket of an excavator. This lowers the overall height of the boom to ensure the load is a legal height.

The three-axle, 26-foot trailer features a four-beam deck design and auxiliary crossmembers for extra floor support. Talbert manufactures the trailers using 16-inch beams, consisting of T-1 flanges and 80K webs, to reduce empty weight and achieve the target trailer weight and deck height. The trailer can also be built with Walther EMC Dura-Light Hubs® as a lightweight hub solution and CentriFuse® brake drums, which are

the lightest drums on the market. The trailer’s alumi-num wheels also help keep the weight low.

The 40-Ton Lightweight trailer also features a new ratchet neck design. This design eliminates the need for changing adjustment blocks and enables the operator to adjust the ride height of a trailer from one side of the trailer.

Customers can choose whether to incorporate Talbert’s 75th anniversary package. This package includes stain-less steel gooseneck inserts, stainless steel mudflap brackets with a “Talbert” cutout, powder-coated outrig-gers, 75th anniversary decals and conspicuity tape, apitong decking coated with linseed oil and a custom placard decal.

dual-function outer ring brightens and the central LED array lights only during stop and turn functions.

"Our strategy is to enter markets where our superior green technology provides a solution," explained AX-ION CEO Steve Silverman, "When I visited the site with the inventor of our technology, Tom Nosker, Ph.D., we knew immediately how well our STRUXURE™ mats perform – that we are providing a valuable solution to a difficult problem: degradation of supplies at a construc-tion site."

With access to remote areas proving difficult for heavy equipment, construction mats are used to facilitate development of infrastructure, from oil and gas pipe-line to sewer lines. When timber-based mats degrade, access is limited, causing delays in the completion of critical infrastructure projects.

"It is clear that our STRUXURE™ mats will outlast others in the market today. We make tough mats! I saw it at the site in Old Bridge, and I believe that our value in the construction of tomorrow's infrastructure will be realized today," added Silverman.

New Curb Fox 5000T-HD Offers More VersatilityThe improved Curb Fox 5000T-HD slipformer now paves wider and higher sections. With new heavy-duty tracks, added horsepower, and weight, the 5000T-HD slipforms pavement up to 10 feet wide, and barriers up to 39 inches high.

Heavier tracks allow the weight of the 5000T to be increased by almost 50%. This added traction and sta-bility give the Curb Fox even greater versatility. Engine size is also increased to a 67HP diesel engine.

The tracks on the Curb Fox 5000T-HD measure 74 inches long, by 9 inches wide and by 15 inches high. Overall machine weight of the 5000T with the heavy-duty tracks has been increased to 14,000 lbs. But the highly mobile CF5000T-HD still transports at legal width of 8.5 feet, and it still turns down to two feet.

Production with the 5000T-HD has surpassed any other slipformer in its class. On 36 inch wide barrier pads, the Curb Fox 5000T-HD has paved over 10,000

feet in a day. Paving speeds on 8 foot wide pavement have averaged over 10 feet per minute.

The CF5000T-HD will also slipform large curb and gutter, or channel, sections up to 39 inches wide in the offset position. It handles virtually any below pavement and uneven grade applications.

To learn more about the new capabilities of the Curb Fox 5000T-HD and all Curb Fox slipformers, call 704-638-0405 or watch videos of the equipment at work at www.curbfox.com/videos.

I saw it at the site in Old Bridge, and I believe that our value in the construction of tomorrow's infrastructure will be realized today," added Silverman.

heating & cooling solutionsheating & cooling solutions

Challenges of natural ventilation systems

Natural ventilation is ideal; however, these systems come with their own inherent challenges.

• Maintaining uniform tempera-tures is difficult

With a natural ventilation system, you must constantly monitor humidity and temperature. In the summer, it can be difficult to cool down the interior of a large warehouse if a breeze isn’t blow-ing. If you live in areas of high humidity, opening doors and windows is simply not an option. In the winter, it may be too cold, yet keeping them closed causes heat build up.

• Building must be oriented cor-rectly

To take advantage of prevailing natu-ral conditions, a warehouse must be oriented correctly. However, this is not always possible, given individual outside terrain and logistics considerations. The area around the warehouse must be

free of obstructions to allow for the free flow of air, while storage inside must be conducive as well.

• Build up of condensation

On high humidity days, water vapor is released into a building. Water vapor moves independently of air and always flows to the coldest point, such as con-crete floors, which cool down at night. Once the concrete slab reaches dew point as temperatures increase, con-densation is formed on the floor, which poses real safety hazards to people and machinery.

Condensation on roof beams can also drip to the floor and surfaces, causing discomfort for people, and damage to machinery and materials.

HVLS Fans Provide Superior Ventilation

HVLS fans work in tandem with natural ventilation or HVAC systems, and also reduce or eliminate many of the chal-lenges associated with these systems

while offering significant energy efficien-cies and significantly lowering HVAC costs.

By continuously mixing incoming fresh air with stale air, HVLS fans minimize the total amount of ventilation required to achieve adequate air quality, and uses less energy. HVLS technology also helps keep employees comfortable, safe and productive, and with balanced and controlled temperatures, product and machinery are also within an optimal environment.

• How HVLS fans work

For some people, the slow movement of an HVLS fan is deceptive — how can such a slow moving fan cool down em-ployees or provide superior ventilation? You don’t need a physics degree to know that a breeze moving across your skin on a hot day feels good, especially in humid environments.

While a cool breeze brushing over hot skin feels good, high volume air move-ment can be both unpleasant and disruptive. And, air speed beyond four

or five mph usually offers little, if any, additional cooling benefits.

The reason why a large, slow moving fan actually cools better and more efficiently than a small, high-speed fan is due to the large column of air, “traveling” farther than a small one.

Through HVLS technology, when the down column of air from an HVLS fan reaches the floor, the air turns in the horizontal direction away from the column in all directions. The air flow-ing outward is called the “horizontal floor jet.” Since the height of the floor jet is determined by the diameter of the column of air, a larger diameter fan naturally produces a larger air column and thus a higher floor jet.

Smaller high-speed fans are incapable of producing the same effect.

Airspeed, combined with fan “effective-ness,” means that very large, low-speed commercial fans are enormously more efficient and effective than small high-speed fans.

Since developing the first HVLS prototype in 1998, MacroAir continues to serve as an HVLS industry leader through its commitment to innovation and design of the most durable and cost-effective commer-cial ceiling fans on the market. As the “engineers of air,™” MacroAir produces energy-efficient, long-lasting HVLS fans that can be found in barns, warehouses, manufacturing plants, airplane hangars and retail establishments across the U.S. and around the world, and are used by companies such as Coca-Cola, CSX Transportation and NAPA Auto Parts. The company is the exclusive HVLS fan supplier for inde-pendent auto dealerships of BMW, Chrysler, Ford, General Motors, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan and Toyota under their Dealer Equipment Programs. To learn more about the HVLS industry and MacroAir’s line of HVLS fans, visit www.macroairfans.com or call 866-668-3247. How Warehouse Ventilation Benefits from High Volume, Low Speed Fans –by Eddie Boyd, president of MacroAir | www.macroairfans.com

Indoor air quality is important whether you work in a warehouse or a barn. Indoor air, when it isn’t continuously mixed with fresh air, becomes stuffy and smelly.

With high ceilings and vast storage areas that are in constant flux due to stock movement and distribution, large warehouses face ongoing ventilation and tem-perature battles.

Natural ventilation can help maintain good air quality, but this presents numer-ous other natural challenges – namely, it’s difficult to maintain a uniform air temperature. And while HVAC systems and box fans can help with distributing air and maintaining temperatures, they consume vast amounts of energy and are expensive to run. Plus, you’d need numerous box fans to cool down such a large space, which can become a hazard.

To maintain indoor air quality and increase the comfort level and productivity of employees, high volume, low speed (HVLS) large-size commercial ceiling fans should be looked to as an efficient and cost-effective solution.

Benefits of Using HVLS Fans in Barn Applications

HVLS fans impart a number of benefits to business owners and facility managers including lower energy costs. In addition to supplementing natural ventila-tion or HVAC systems, HVLS fans also reduce or eliminate inherent challenges.

• Improved ventilation and indoor air quality

Although a building, including a warehouse, may have an air exhaust system in place, these systems often fail to thoroughly mix all of the inside air. This type of system gets short circuited as doors or windows are opened and closed. Air pressure created in the suction of the exhaust looks to the path of least resistance and circumvents the intake devices. HVLS fans eliminate this problem as they continuously mix incoming fresh air, vastly improving indoor air quality.

• Eliminate condensation buildup

Because HVLS fans constantly mix air from roof to floor, a constant state of thermal equilibrium exists inside the building – and hence, condensation doesn’t form on the roof beams or floor, eliminating conden-sation dripping on product or machinery, as well as helping to ensure the floor stays dry and safe.

• Provide heat destratification

In the winter months, when “warm air rises” the effect can cost an additional 25 percent or more since more heat is required to maintain floor level temperatures. Why so much? The rate of heat loss or transmission through the roof accounts for roughly 70 percent of the transmission losses inherent in all structures. The objective, then, is to even out the temperature gradi-ent from floor to ceiling in order to reduce heat loss.

The unique feature of HVLS fans is that they can run in reverse, which pushes the warm air at the top of the structure down to the floor effectively and efficiently evening out temperature throughout the warehouse. The result is that one HVLS fan applied to 20,000 square feet of indoor space can easily return 20 per-cent of heating energy dollars.

How to Choose the Right HVLS Fan

HVLS fans are incredibly energy efficient — one HVLS fan can replace up to 50 high-speed box fans while covering up to 20,000 square feet of facility space.

Which size HVLS fan should you choose? This de-pends on the size of your facility and its height. To maintain continuous air exchange, add one HVLS fan per 20,000 square feet of space. The bigger the HVLS fan, the more air it can move over a larger space.

MacroAir, originator of the HVLS technology in 1998 as a solution for cooling dairy cows and increasing milk production, today remains a leading manu-facturer of HVLS fans in 8’ to 24’ in diameter. The company provides a number of calculator applications on its website that, upon entering specific building specifications, help determine the right MacroAir fan (or fans) to achieve optimal air movement and results: macroairfans.com/fan-calculators/.

MacroAir fans using the company’s patented 6ix-Blade™ technology have proved to lower heating and cooling costs by as much as 20 percent in a variety of building settings.

Designed for easy installation

to the exterior of a commercial

HVAC unit, Linear’s Copper

Cop includes a unique wire

harness and patent-pending

spring-loaded clips enclosed in a

durable bright yellow casing that

provides “Protected by Copper

Cop” warning signage to deter

would-be thieves. As simple as it

is effective, the Copper Cop goes

to work when anyone tries to

remove the HVAC cover or disarm

the unit. If breached, Copper Cop

connects to a local siren while also

transmitting an alarm signal to

a Linear or other security system

which then alerts the proper

authorities.

Copper Cop has advantages over

existing HVAC metal security solutions as well.

Since it is an alarm activation device, licensed

security system installers can retrofit existing

HVAC units without needing an HVAC installer’s

license or an electrician’s license. Security system

installers can install Copper Cop for commercial

customers directly, or work with HVAC contractors

to install and monitor. Integrating with existing

alarm panels is easily accomplished with Linear’s

wireless Transmitter/Receiver Pair (DXS-31 / DXS-

702).

Copper and metal thefts are especially destructive

because the cost of repair, replacement and

insurance premium increases far exceed the value

of stolen metal. A $10,000 HVAC unit can be

rendered useless when the $75 worth of copper

tubing is removed. This imbalance makes simple,

affordable solutions like the Copper Cop even more

appealing.

According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau

(NCIB), metal thefts have increased 81 percent

since 2008, with copper by far the most frequently

stolen material. Critical infrastructure sources like

traffic lights and railway signals, farm equipment,

construction sites and unoccupied buildings have

all been targeted by thieves willing to risk personal

safety and cause tens of thousands of dollars in

damage for a few hundred dollars worth of metal.

“We’ve seen countless cases of schools, businesses,

churches and construction sites targeted by metal

thieves, often because of inadequate security,” said

Duane Paulsen, senior vice president of product

and market development for Linear. “Copper Cop is

the simplest, most affordable and effective solution

to combat copper theft because it provides a visual

deterrent on the HVAC unit, an audio deterrent with

the siren, and an immediate security response via

integration with existing security systems.”

Even the federal government recognizes the threat

caused by metal theft in an unclassified FBI

intelligence assessment that states, “Copper thieves

are threatening US critical infrastructure...and

present a risk to both public safety and national

security.”

For more information call 800-421-1587 or visit

www.linearcorp.com.

This 20-unit, four-story condo-minium complex spans 26,000 square feet and integrates 93 shipping containers. The energy efficient systems include ductless heating and air system, tank-less water heaters, and other amenities that combine to reduce each unit’s energy costs by up to 80%;

• $4.5 million Lake Tahoe recreational cabin project, which includes construction of 65 recreational cabins on 67 acres of prime Lake Tahoe property;

• Launched patented Cargolinc™ Systems–a first-of-its-kind proprietary 3 step process that provides architects, builders/developers, and private owners with a comprehensive three-step process that surpasses green and sustainable construction and quality standards at a fraction of the cost and time, allowing for higher quality luxury finishes within budget; and

• Multiple patent filings in process.

“We are the perfect solution to construction for all types of projects,” notes Leslie Horn, CEO of Three Squared. “With the U.S. new construction indus-try desperate for ways to cut costs without undermining quality, green home construction gaining significant momentum, and a growth rate from $49 bil-lion to $140 billion (representing 20% of new construction) forecasted over the next five years, shipping container-based construction is an extraordi-narily well-positioned solution. This is especially true for America’s multi-family, mixed use, and commercial markets that are completely underserved even as demand for this segment rises. For these reasons and more, our cargo container-based building options are being extremely well received in both the domestic and international marketplace as our recent array of milestones exemplify. We love Detroit and are thrilled to be building there and help lead turning both the city’s and our nation’s economy around.”

Detroit, struggling to keep its proverbial head above water with the collapse of U.S. steel and auto industry and often avoided as a corporate headquarters locale, has a long history of firsts that have impacted the country greatly. In our American culture Detroit has a proud history. With its civic pride return-ing and sports teams on the comeback, many companies are eyeing the city as choice geography. Whole Foods, for example, is opening its first store there, and Quicken Loans is creating new jobs and leading the pack of encouraging downtown Detroit employees to move to Detroit by offering financial incen-tives and down-payment assistance programs. Detroit is perfectly positioned to be the home of Three Squared’s first projects.

“Detroit was selected as our headquarters because of the state and local gov-

Shipping Container Construction Gains Significant Ground with Mixed Use Builders Across Globe

Design is only limited by imagination, not expense.Three Squared uses retired shipping containers as its primary framing material for new construction. Made of steel and wood, this product is stronger than conventional framing, stackable for creating levels, and readily available. The excess containers on the market significantly reduce the compara-tive cost. With a price tag as low as $900 each, used shipping containers offer a relatively inexpensive construction medium. Even when purchased new, shipping containers rarely cost more than $6,000. Cargo containers may, in fact, be considered the ideal building material as they are strong, resistant to the elements, durable and versatile. Construction is accomplished by simply positioning them.

While new “brick and mortar” construction continues to decline amid economic woes and as lumber—the primary new construction material—is harvested faster than it can be replenished to devastating environmental effect, for-ward-thinking real estate development company Three Squared™, Inc. has made exceptional progress with its cargo container residential and commercial construction initiatives due to escalating marketplace acceptance and demand driven by superior cost efficiencies, heightened profitability, and minimized build time. The company, whose pioneer-ing shipping container building solution offers systemized and sustainable construction resulting in affordable luxury, announced an array of significant company projects and other milestones, as follows.

FEBRUARY 2013erning bodies’ positive leadership, proactive attitude, and commitment to becoming an environmental leader in the 21st century,” Horn said. “Land costs are also very reasonable, allowing us to yield attractive margins while keeping our prices to con-sumers affordable. We love Detroit and are thrilled to be building there and help lead turning both the city’s and our nation’s economy around.”

“Our company marries the trend toward sustainable green housing solutions with the problems of escalating building costs and a surplus of unlikely yet durable, versatile, widely available, economical and code-friendly shipping containers, which we use as the primary material for construction framing of houses, condominiums, dormito-ries and other residential, retail, and commercial structures,” Horn continues. “In fact, our cargo container-based construction costs an average of half of other building methods. The structures take a fraction of the time to build and are more energy ef-ficient than their counterparts because of a high-purposed combination of new tech-nologies our team is creating and blending together. What’s more, our buildings provide an elegant balance of simplicity with inherent character and personalized style in each wall. Design is only limited by imagination, not expense. In addition, residents and tenants alike know that their walls have traveled the world and have a story to tell. They’ve seen the ocean and other countries and have stood the test of time.”

Given the range of benefits and advantages, architects, contractors, and individuals are increasingly using containers to build homes, offices, apartments, schools, dor-mitories, artists’ studios, emergency shelters and shops across the world. They are commonly used to provide temporary secure spaces on construction sites and add earthquake resistance to any structure. Europe, China, and New Zealand have suc-cessfully pioneered building sustainable living in great numbers utilizing shipping containers. As one example, Travelodge, a global leader in budget hotel lodging, celebrated the 4th anniversary of their completed hotel in Uxbridge, U.K. The proj-ect used shipping containers and came in 10% under alternative building estimates, saving them approximately $900,000 in American currency on the construction.

Why Cargo Container-Based Construction? The Problem:

As the primary material used in new construction, lumber is a precious commodity that is harvested faster than it can be replenished. According to the U. S. Department of Energy (DOE), trees process significantly more carbon dioxide through absorption before it has a chance to reach the upper atmosphere. The removal of trees without sufficient reforestation has resulted in devastating habitat damage, biodiversity loss, aridity, soil erosion and bio-sequestration of atmospheric carbon dioxide.

Concurrently, retired shipping containers are abundant in the United States. It is estimated that a staggering 21,000 shipping containers arrive in the United States every day. Port authorities estimate that over 700,000 used shipping containers are stockpiled on prime waterfront real estate without a significant use, purpose, or method for disposal. Many cargo containers originate from China and are used only on their maiden voyage overseas because it is actually cheaper for China to build a new shipping container than it is to ship the container back to China for reuse. Since the U.S. imports many more manufactured goods than it exports in shipping containers, most remain here, wasting precious space in our ports and landfill. Con-sequently, the U.S. has a surplus of “empties” which is made available for alternative uses, such as building.

The Shipping Container Construction Solution:

Three Squared uses retired shipping containers as its primary framing material for new construction. Made of steel and wood, this product is stronger than conventional framing, stackable for creating levels, and readily available. The excess containers on the market significantly reduce the comparative cost. The containers’ modular design makes additional construc-tion as easy as stacking more containers up to 12 high. The interlocking mechanism of the containers facilitates mobility so that structures made from them can be easily disassembled, moved, and reassembled.

Three Squared, Inc. is a property development market leader in the cargo-based construction industry. This real estate development firm uniquely and effectively employs shipping containers to build safe, cost-efficient and environmentally-friendly homes, schools, offices, and warehouse space across the globe. The company’s Cargolinc™ Systems ground-breaking proprietary 3 step process offers a more profitable and efficient design and engineering system for construction projects. Rebuilding America through modular living, Three Squared is demonstrating new luxury construction can be executed faster, more affordably, and with greater energy efficiency. These are not hypothetical questions. They are as real as your heartbeat. Who is counting on you? Make no mistake; there are many who will hurt, some businesses may fold, some schools, colleges, churches and institutions may suffer, some dear ones may not recover emotionally or financially if your chair is empty. On the other hand, it is possible that, even in the direst circumstances, those you care about, the places and people that are counting on you can be protected even if the unexpected happens today. A conversation now about life insurance may mean accumulated debts can be gone and funding for growth to secure and expand your business or place of service will be there when you are not. College educations can continue without interruption, mortgages can be paid and your income can be partially replaced for your family.Today, life insurance is more important, more affordable and accessible than ever. Things have changed. The market is very competi-tive. For those with a 20-year time horizon, the rates of return on whole life or permanent insurance exceed nearly every CD, money mar-ket, and other low-risk choices. Inflation risk is currently non-existent, making insurance a better investment than any time in recent his-tory. Consider this:• Age matters. The younger you are, the

less the expense. Temporary or term insurance can be very reasonable. Mike Elliott was still in high school when his dad, an entrepreneur who had an undiag-nosed heart ailment, died at age 42. But Mike had 4 years of college and 6 years of medical school paid for because his dad had life insurance that provided for Mike’s future education.

• Health matters. The time to buy insurance is before you need it. Chris Monteforte planned to buy a temporary or term policy. Just before his appoint-ment with an agent, his doctor prescribed medication to lower cholesterol and his high blood pressure, which resulted from his recent weight gain. These conditions disqualified him for the policy he wanted to own.

• Family matters. Married with children and a mortgage? Insurance needs grow along with your family and debt. Forbes Magazine and all its various related busi-nesses were kept in the family because Malcolm Forbes' life insurance policies paid all state and federal estate taxes due at his death. Selling assets or even the business to pay taxes is a loser's game and can erode decades of hard work.

• Capital and continuity matters. Own your own business? Have a busi-ness partner? Are you a key leader in a charitable or service organization? Your insurance can provide security and stabil-ity when you are not there to lead. All the accumulated debt of Liberty University was paid completely and a large endow-ment was created when Dr. Jerry Falwell, president and founder of the university, died unexpectedly leaving a reported $34 million to secure the future of his beloved institution.

• Today matters. Insurance has never been more accessible. Research online at www.insure.com or www.selectquote.com or call an agent. Your current agent who handles your car or home insurance may be very competitive in price.

Common excuses for not purchasing life insur-ance ignore the benefits. The idea that younger families do not need life insurance is incorrect. Losing a breadwin-ner dramatically alters the future for both the spouse and children. In addition, it is much cheaper for a younger person to be covered. Some argue that it is too expensive. This is a huge misconception as there are many low cost options, competitive pricing and types of policies available that provide great value for families. Here is just one example:A 35-year-old male in good health can buy a 20-year, $1,000,000 term policy for less than $39 per month (quotes will vary by age, health and company). Can you afford not to own some form of life insurance, permanent (called whole life) or temporary (coverage for a defined period of time) to ensure a long-term future for your business, those people and institutions you deeply care about? Why not talk it over today and make plans now so no one will ever have to say, "It is too bad; if had he/she had only known what was ahead, it would have made such a difference for everyone." The time is now; do not put this off. People are counting on you to make right deci-sions. Life insurance may be more expensive tomorrow and, perhaps, too late. Your empty chair will be costly. Life insurance in its various forms has the power to transform a tragedy to an expression of caring that can live for decades to come. It is time to re-examine your needs and plan for the future. It all begins with a simple conversation. You may be surprised at the peace of mind and sense of security you will know and share with those who matter most.

The IDigBest SystemThe release of the IDigBest system with optional Machine Control by Excavating Solutions is truly a breakthrough in both digging systems and machine control. It has taken the vision and passion of a professional excavator to revolutionize the excavating industry. The approach is simple - technologies designed and built by excavators for excavators.

By enhancing technology that has been widely available for years, the IDigBest system, through many patented advances, delivers technology the excavating world has been waiting for. We proudly offer this advanced 3D digging system, bucket/machine control system and optional weighing system for the price of a traditional 2D system.

The system gives the operator the ability and confidence to have the elevations of an entire worksite at his finger tips, in real time - all the time - with a high tech, simple -to - read display screen. The elevations can be input with one benchmark within 20 seconds and the operator will no longer rely on a “Shot Man” for guidance, eliminating the very common jobsite issue of making correct calculations of continually changing elevations. This eliminates the very costly mistake of over digging and having to compensate with expensive fill.

The excavator itself is transformed into a precision, real time measuring device. This system gives the best operators 10 times the accuracy of their current skill level while allowing them to operate in complex situations by giving them the ability to “see” underground. Though our extensive collection of video tutorials at IDigHelp.com, we can teach any dog new tricks.

Evans waterless heavy duty coolant increases fuel economyReduces emissions and lowers TCO in independent testing

Evans Cooling Systems, Inc., manufacturer of the only waterless engine coolant, reported that recent testing results by the Department of Sanitation in New York City and Emisstar LLC, a nationally recognized emissions testing firm, showed fuel economy improvement while lowering exhaust emissions.

The objective of this evaluation was to report the results of a chassis dynamometer test program at the New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) Vehicle Test Facility to assess the fuel economy, emissions, and temperature performance characteristics of Evans Waterless Heavy Duty Coolant. The test was performed on a diesel refuse collection truck, a Mack MP7 owned and operated by DSNY. Two computer controlled test configurations were selected to produce

Contractors: Keep your workshop clean! The Industrial Maid T 3000 series air cleaners have been used in hundreds of workshops, implement repair and diesel repair shops to control welding smoke and fumes, grinding dust, nuisance dusts and diesel smoke.

This simple, yet effective, air filtration system can be chain hung and uses two stages of filtration to separate dust, fumes and particles. You do not have to exhaust air, so your heat remains inside. The Merv 8 (45%) pleated pre-filters take out the larger particles and then the multi-pocket Merv 15 (95%) main bag filters take out the very fine particles. The units are built in SE Nebraska, have a three year warranty and Industrial Maid offers an unconditional performance guarantee.

Government Liquidation Surplus inventory the largest in the marketplaceGovernment Liquidation (or GL) is the exclusive partner of the U.S. Department of Defense for the sale of their government and military surplus. We are the world’s largest marketplace for authentic surplus, once the property of the U.S. armed forces.

Government Liquidation offers surplus items in over 500 categories including: trucks and other vehicles, boats, scrap metal, uniforms and field gear, medical and dental equipment,

a statistically valid comparison of fuel economy and emissions performance data. The two test cycles reflected the New York City Garbage Truck cycle and the other reflected events that are normally found in refuse collection operations.

The results were fuel economy improvement of 4.4 and 6.1 percent respectively, and a reduction of CO2 emissions of 4.3 and 5.6 percent respectively. Emisstar conducted testing in March of 2012, utilizing highly accurate and standard duty cycles with universal recognition across the industry.

It was also noted that the test showed no negative impact to oil and transmission fluid temperatures. A complete copy of the report is available at www.evanscooling.com.

“Evans waterless coolants have shown to improve fuel economy by as much as 3 – 9 percent, substantially reducing operating costs for f leets and owner operators,” according to Mike Tourville, Evans Marketing Director. “The report demonstrates that Evans can help reduce CO2 and particulate emissions.”

A feature of Evans Heavy Duty Coolant is its higher boiling point of 3750 F, significantly higher than water-based coolants — allowing the engine to safely operate at slightly higher temperatures. The huge separation of the boiling point from the operating temperature enables raising the fan-on temperature to 230° F, resulting in less fan-on time. The fans on heavy duty diesel engines draw a considerable amount of horsepower, using significant amounts of fuel.

Schweiss Doors’ spherical bearings unique to the hydraulic door industrySchweiss Doors, proven to be a worldwide leader in production of hydraulic and bifold doors, is proud to announce the addition of ‘spherical’ bearings, another unique design improvement to its hydraulic one-piece doors.

These bearing - critical to safe and smooth door operation - are now built into all Schweiss ‘Red Power’ Hydraulic Doors. During an extensive testing phase, the design team at Schweiss Doors found them to be the perfect answer to a stronger, longer-lasting door.

Content with the use of conventional bearings, no one else in the industry has adopted this unique feature. Schweiss Doors engineering team has proven that spherical bearings are far superior, and when you use superior components, you get a superior product.

Spherical bearings are not new, but they are something ‘new’ to the door industry. They are being used in tractor 3-point hitches, planters, drawbars, car suspensions, engines, driveshafts, heavy machinery and many other applications. Schweiss Doors is ‘light years’ ahead of the curve in engineering genius by using these bearings in their large and heavy Red Power lift doors.

Schweiss Hydraulic Door spherical bearings are strategically located between the teardrop area and cylinder plate at each end of the doors’ large, lifting and closing cylinders. Each door frame has a certain amount of deflection when in operation, and spherical bearings allow for less friction, eliminate binding, wear and damage to a door cylinder and any flexing of the door frame.

Established over 30 years ago, Schweiss Doors continues to be at the top of its trade. You can always rely on Schweiss Doors for the very best in agricultural, aeronautical, industrial, commercial, residential and designer doors.

Located in Mount City, MO, local grain farmer JW Trimmer is taking a former corn silo and transforming it into the ultimate home/office. The new building will be constructed out of Vertical Insulated Concrete Forms from TF Forming Systems. “We were looking for an energy efficient material and concept,” Trimmer explained. “We compared ICF to double stud to highly insulated wall to a sip type panel…what we actually wanted to do with the radius of the corn silo is why we chose TF. TF’s vertical design looked the best option for doing the radius." Steve Graham with Graham Construction was the installer on the project. This was the first building he had completed where an existing structure was repurposed and four radius walls were part of the design. “We were impressed with the ease of being able to create the perfect radius,” said Graham. “Additionally, with this system, the homeowner should experience a lower utility bill and the structural integrity of the home, being that the walls are 8-inches and the helix added, will offer them safety for years to come.” “The corn silo was a well-built structure and unique, not too many of them were built this way,” Trimmer says. “However, it no longer served a useful purpose as a corn elevator. We were looking for something that it could be repurposed into. The farm had grown so we needed an office space.” Hyper Energy Efficiency

JW Trimmer owns more than 200 acres of farmland in the small Northeastern town of Mound City. Located near Nebraska where winter temperatures can be extreme, Trimmer intends to use geothermal energy to heat the structure. He will also tie in the excess heat from the wood-fired boiler to heat the water in the radiant floor system to heat the lower level.

Because of the usage of natural energy, coupled with the concrete walls and insulation on both sides of his walls, he will reduce his energy bills by well over 50 percent. “Our house is smaller than this structure, but we are hoping with the energy efficient walls and the design aspects of the building, the bills will be comparable to a space half its size,” Trimmer says. Resilient and Disaster Resistant

The new building, a hybrid of the existing structure and the new structure, will result in a state-of-the-art building with walls engineered to withstand 250 mph winds thanks to the slow curing process accomplished with a TF concrete wall and addition of Helix fibers to the concrete mix. “We get intense storms and high winds. We get tornadoes that go through the area,” Trimmer says. “I was looking at a long-term structure; something that would withstand extreme weather conditions and stand for a considerable period of time.” “This is a testament to the unique capabilities our wall systems offer,” says Kirk Brown, TF Forming Systems’ CEO. “Not only do we offer solid and affordable ways to be resilient and energy efficient, but we give building owner’s the opportunity to incorporate our wall systems into existingstructures. Once again the vertical design of our system proves that we are architecturally-friendly for every application.” The new structure will offer 4900 square feet of space that will be used for offices, a conference room, full kitchen and guest bedrooms and living quarters. Trimmer hopes to have the building complete by April 2013.
