Dear Parent/Carer,
Your child is about to start Unit 1 of their English coursebook Tiger Tracks 5. This unit focuses on England, and on the subject of electronic gadgets.
In this unit, your child will learn how to identify and name different electronic gadgets, and talk about what gadgets they use.
They will listen to and read an advertisement for a new tablet.
They will listen to and read the biography The father of computer science, and write a review of the story.
They will learn to ask, talk and write about how often they or other people do things using the adverbs of frequency.
Pronunciation practice of the sounds ‘ch’ and ‘j’ will be provided, with a focus on recognising and differentiating between the two sounds, and pronouncing them more accurately.
In the Culture lessons, your child will listen and read about the cities of Oxford and Cambridge in England, and about shopping in the UK.
In the Everyday chit-chat, they will watch a video clip How to buy an electronic gadget, and will act out a role play, practising this language.
They will learn about the pros and cons of using electronic gadgets. They will prepare and write a project about which gadgets other people use.
Finally, your child will review and evaluate their own work during the unit and complete their Progress Journal.
The Pupil’s Online Materials (access code in the front of the Activity Book) contain grammar tables and vocabulary exercises, as well as the story, the video and a songs bank to help your child practise their English at home. Please take the time to look at these online materials with your child.
Thank you for your support in making your child’s English learning experience as successful and as valuable as possible.
Best wishes,
English Class Teacher
